I've recently started playing this, and have been digging it as well. Pretty robust systems at first glance. A stealth system grays the world except for the eyeline of guards. For combat, your characters have X movement points to spend a turn, and they can be carried over to the next turn. Distance moving uses a proportional amount. Different attacks/moves have different costs. Order of action is determined by an initiative score. Wasteland 2 works basically the same way, if you played that beta.

This seems like a great place to talk about Marijuana Simpson! This thing is kind of blowing my mind. It's Pynchonesque. Recap: some twitter user wrote a screenplay, in 5,100 tweets. Full Simpsons cast, plus the major players and villains of the Bush administration. Somebody compiled the tweets into an easier to read manuscript: http://www.scribd.com/doc/233219778/Marijuana-Simpson HOMER: This isn't my son! [A grotesque, muscular caricature of Bart is hanging out with a couple of jugheads, shooting the shit and drinking Millers] HOMER: I don't even recognize him without a bong in his hand! MIKE: He hasn't noticed us yet. BOB: The kid's wasted. HOMER: Son. BART, surprised: Father? What the fuck? Why are...how? HOMER: What the fuck did they do to you...I'm going to cry. MIKE: Get this guy some herb! BART: I don't want that shit around me HOMER: Whaaaaaaaaaaaaaat? BART: You heard me, father. I'm a grown ass man. I'm here. Fighting for my-for YOUR fucking life. I can't sit around all day smoking kush. Not anymore. I need clarity of mind, high reaction time, if I'm lifted out there, when it's either me or some terrorist, I'm a fucking goner. This is for you, father. This is for our family. I think of you guys every time I turn down the hashish pipe. I know you're anti-war. I was too. But this is what I have to be. I'm here for a reason. I met their demands. Now meet mine and leave. HOMER: I came here for you. BART: Why? So you could get me high and show me SNL Web Shorts? HOMER: You love Laser Cats. BART: I love America.

Idle Criterion Film Club Week 3: Tokyo Story (1953)
feelthedarkness replied to Roderick's topic in Movies & Television
Boy, I love this movie. One of the things that makes the "moralizing" work is that it's not at all heavy handed. I feel like being the age I am, I saw these scenes with a sense of "ohh, they're going to regret this." -

I can't remember if it was this or last episode but I've been chuckling about referring to Steam Sales as Supermarket Sweeps. -
Amazing! I agree she deserves a painting. Let me know when/where to donate a couple bucks!

Is there a way to delete trading cards on Steam?
feelthedarkness replied to Ozzie's topic in Video Gaming
I'm Steam Level 20 (which is super low in the scheme of things) and I get maybe 1 a month! 1 a week is still pretty good. -
Is there a way to delete trading cards on Steam?
feelthedarkness replied to Ozzie's topic in Video Gaming
We're talking pennies and dimes here, but as you collect all the cards, and complete badges, you gain Steam XP, no Dew enable doubler yet, and the higher your Steam Level the more frequent gift of free card packs, which could then be sold. The Steam rich get richer! -
MS & MM are both late 80s style adventure game style, but a bit clunkier than Sierra/Lucasarts. Mean Streets is particularly weird, because half the game is also a 3d flight sim in ultra low poly future California. I get the impression they sold it to a publisher as being based on the company's earlier success: Echelon. MS also has a classic adventure game arcade sequences, that are mercifully fairly rare. I loved it as a kid, but I imagine it will be pretty challenging now. It has 4 distinct modes: Flight Sim, interview/interrogation, 3rd person adventure, and side scrolling minimalist NARC. MM as I remember is just all 3rd person adventure game, with conversations. Access Software had REAL SOUND, a program that was just (ultra low bitrate) digitized music and human voice right at the beginning of the era of sound cards.

Obligatory Comical YouTube Thread II: The Fall of YouTube

I feel bad for those people that live in that industrial wasteland, that seems to be surrounded by endless empty plastic cleaner and fluid containers. Also, related: http://youtu.be/iPa5eAsIr_8 -

Somebody Please Explain This Scene From Transformers 4 To Me
feelthedarkness replied to tegan's topic in Movies & Television
If I can point out the super obvious, but something I think is really important, it's that these robots don't change from CAR to ROBOT in any meaningful way where the robots transition out of or imply their original form. This dude made a movie about toy cars turning into toy robots and didn't care enough to see that their spacial relationship is critical to what they are. -

The people who make Tropico, or anybody should make bleak satire Tycoon games, but named XXXX Tyrant. Rollercoaster Tyrant. Where you have to make a theme park that serves your ego and whatnot, and force people to have fun, and provide them just enough nutrition to stay alive long enough to have their requisite fun.

Somebody Please Explain This Scene From Transformers 4 To Me
feelthedarkness replied to tegan's topic in Movies & Television
Haha, right?! We've entered a truly decadent age where superhero movie makers really believe in their stories. I the Polygon article covers a lot of it pretty well: http://www.polygon.com/2014/6/30/5857506/Transformers-bay-300-million -
Areal (aka S.T.A.L.K.E.R. / Metro 3.0)
feelthedarkness replied to singlespace's topic in Video Gaming
There is just a fundamental perception difference between going to a publisher to ask for money, where you have to be there, and putting out your hand to the public with a previous entities publicity photos. Saying you're making a new engine, and then using Unity Assets with mild photoshopping is just bad juju.- 59 replies

Somebody Please Explain This Scene From Transformers 4 To Me

crazy. it really doesn't remotely look like he's holding something. also, Transformers 4 is 166 minutes long. -
The idea of "qualification" kind of gets to the heart of equal opportunity issues. If one says "there are no qualified women" but no place ever hires women, how will they ever find a qualified woman? Elevating one or two woman to a senior position would still leave them in a vast minority. I regard this GB thing as an abject failure precisely because they knew there have been perception issues raised to senior staff. It doesn't totally negate there are some funny people doing good work there, but as of 7/1/14 they have maintained an absolute boys club, and have had it pointed out before this most recent decision. I also agree that adding a few women won't fundamentally change the culture, but a major institution stepping up and saying "we need to change this culture" and hiring (then not standing for harassment of) women is the first step to improving the culture.

The specifically carved out taxes as being exempt for their B.S., so this is definitely just anti-woman right wing propaganda.

Idle Thumbs 164: The Seed of a Sneeze
feelthedarkness replied to Chris's topic in Idle Thumbs Episodes & Streams
Mistakes don't invalidate the good stuff! I fully understand not wanting people to hear you say things you wish you didn't say, but the fact that there was growth is what everyone wants, right? People considering what they've said/done, and try to improve where they think they should. Wanting things to be fully formed and correct doesn't respect the hard work and learning that it takes to get there. -
She should also bring BISKAIDAN. Way cooler!
