Sno Posted November 14, 2011 (edited) I never played Arena myself, but i've heard people speak in fond regard about it being simultaneously immense and kind of straightforward. Something you can just dive in and toy around with. It's also apparently much, much easier to get running satisfactorily than Daggerfall is. (Nevermind that Daggerfall was always totally fucked.) Daggerfall though, that was my entry into the series, just an incredible, one of a kind game. (That requires patience and a forgiving mindset.) Also played a tiny bit of Redguard, which i remember thinking was pretty cool, but didn't really get into the series again until Morrowind. Erkki Posted November 14, 2011 I played Daggerfall when it came out (not for long, because it seemed too overwhelming), but haven't played Arena. And I didn't know Daggerfall was free as well. Actually I found out it was before writing this post and installed that too, but even the tutorial doesn't work. Maybe it can be tuned in DosBox settings, but mouse swings barely work (seems that holding a button registers as several presses). Anyway, I'll probably play Arena for a bit just to get a taste of how the series started. Actually, I should probably (re)play Morrowind some time because I never finished that (think I was close to the end, though). Oblivion is the only TES game I did finish. Roderick Posted November 15, 2011 A few years back Bethesda released Arena as free downloadable. I tried it then, getting it to run with DOSbox. I never got very far, just to the first town outside of the dungeon. It was a really hard game in my opinion, or maybe I did something wrong. In any case I didn't have the patience to figure it all out and was a bit frustrated with it when I left. It's definitely something you need to sit down for. That's true for Morrowind as well, but at least you get a semblance of easing you into it there, with at the very least an attractive world to delve into. Elder Scrolls has never been about instant gratification though, you always need to invest in these games to get the most (or indeed anything) out of them. Also, finding that these old school interfaces are a bit much to tolerate nowadays, so I guess I'll try to find my Morrowind savegames instead, if they still exist. Meanwhile, local retailer says Skyrim is coming to their shelves, but there are supply difficulties. I think Steam might have the same problem -- they ran out of copies.
