Roderick Posted October 19, 2010 That is depressing and accurate. JRPGs
Nachimir Posted October 19, 2010 Incredible Not *quite* the game it's aimed at, but close: Im at the end of disc two in Valkyria Chronicles.
Korax Posted October 19, 2010 That chart fails right off the bat. I always use something inappropriate and genital-related for my character names, and I haven't been stopped yet.
dibs Posted October 19, 2010 Me and my friend renamed Rhona in FF8 to Herpes, and her dog to The Clap. I usually use a variation of Dibs or Dib deMighty, so i totally passed the 1st step! My friend has WoW toons called Horemonkey (and his pet Durex), Imsoeasy and Dair, which is the Irish for erection. He has a calling. Actually, that same guy once told me to stop using so much innuendo:o
elmuerte Posted October 19, 2010 ever since Yahtzee I name my characters "I say"
Gwardinen Posted October 20, 2010 ever since Yahtzee I name my characters "I say" Is that from a Zero Punctuation? I don't remember it.
Orv Posted October 21, 2010 This sums up a third of my problems with JRPGs. Shitty, shitty, shitty story. The other two thirds being gameplay and fanboys. (The third, third, is actually characters. All of them.)
elmuerte Posted October 21, 2010 Is that from a Zero Punctuation? I don't remember it. yes, don't recall what review it was, but possibly a Zelda game or a jRPG.
Roderick Posted October 21, 2010 It was Zelda, possibly Phantom Hourglass. (Damn I was disappointed by Spirit Tracks in hindsight!)
Tanukitsune Posted October 21, 2010 The festival should be renamed "We'll all be dead by the end of the day.. day?" It was Zelda, possibly Phantom Hourglass.(Damn I was disappointed by Spirit Tracks in hindsight!) Wow! I thought I was the only one who was disappointed by that game! Roderick Posted October 21, 2010 Nope It was a lazy copy of Phantom Hourglass with less interesting mechanics and less bold design choices (say what you will about the temple of the ocean king, I thought it was very memorable and interesting!).
elmuerte Posted October 21, 2010 Spirit Tracks is still on my to-finish list.
Kolzig Posted October 26, 2010 Phantom Hourglass AND Spirit Tracks are still on my to-finish list...
Tanukitsune Posted October 29, 2010 I just remembered two more JRPG tropes from playing Lunar on PSP: - Have a prologue where you fight the bad guy with a legendary group of heroes that aren't the main characters. -If an enemy runs away, it gives you a ton of money or XP for killing it.... You know, I think I don't hate JRPGs, I hate modern JRPGs with emo characters that whine or have daddy issues, as long as I don't feel like punching the hero in the face, I'm usually OK with the game? dibs Posted October 29, 2010 Well, the main character in DQIX is the blandest bland in bland town so it will be right up your street. that said, in the cut scenes where bad things happen, its pretty hilarious to see his painted on grin shining strong despite someone just dying.
