Dead Rising 2

I pretty much agree with twmac. I do think that the doorless transitions should still require a button press, because I go through them by accident all the time.

* Being able to store items in the maintenance rooms

This is probably the only one I agree with. That said, one of my favourite moments in Co-Op was prepping up for a boss fight and having to visit a couple of the shops first in anticipation

This was definitely my experience too, having to equip for a major boss by visiting spots where I knew stuff was. I could imagine a DR rock montage over it all. It was really fun.

But yeah, Dead Rising at it's core is about using the items around you to fight zombies, and all the maintenance rooms have at least one combo weapon in them anyway. With the power that a lot of those weapons have, making it easier to be able to make specific ones, or repair your current ones, would make the game even easier than it already is. Also it would be less interesting, because there would be even more incentive to just use one combo weapon if you could keep it at full health.

There's also an air or realism still there. Obviously, the whole premise is fiction and the combo weapons are often ridiculous. But the core gameplay of "find an item to use against a zombie" is realistically used. You'll find most items in their appropriate spots. I think that most people who have suggested a maintenance room chest, want it to spawn the same items in every room. Not only does that not really make sense, that's the antithesis to what DR wants you to do. You're supposed to improvise with what you have near you, or sacrifice inventory space to not have to.

Here's an awesome story of when I restarted at level 17. The first missions are really easy now since I now know that I can make four nail bats each time I visit the security room. So I do the first missions, easy peasy, rescue a bunch of people

SIDEBAR

Even though the friendly fire thing is horribly shit in this game, escorting people is ten times easier than in the first game. No matter who I escort in this game, as long as they're able to run, follow me safely all the way back to the safe house, no rescuing required. Sure, they get tangled up in some groups of zombie men along the way, but they always manage to break free and join me.

and kill a bunch of psychos and a tiger (!!!) and now I've even got the rolling special move! I've got the Chuck the Role Model mission now, though (the toilet hippie) and that's a tough one. The timing's gotta be just right, and there's the annoying thing where you can't really save anywhere close, so you have to reload and make your way all the way back to the boss each time you lose. Okay, this wasn't so awesome, but I felt I should balance out my first review of the game. It has its share of (really) annoyances, but there's also some sort of charm that keeps me coming back... but for how long?

Also, 2K Czech can kiss my ass for not having patched out the GPS from Mafia 2 yet.

edit:

O.M.G. I just found out the toilet hippie wasn't hard at all.

At first I figured I had to use the dodge when he lunged, and then run back and hit him. Turns out that's stupid, because after you've dodged there's not enough time to get up, run back and hit before he gets in an attack. Actually, it's just a matter of running in circles until he lunges, and then just running over and hitting him.

As always, I was being too clever for my own good.

That was one of my usual rage-quit posts, but I was so tired of spending so much time running from the last save spot to a boss that's just annoying to fight, and then I spend so much time trying out some different tactics – none of them actually working – and each time I fail I have to run all the way from the fucking save point toilet, and all the while I'm thinking that it won't get easier, only harder, and I think about having to fight many more bosses, each one more frustrating than the last, and I think about restarting the game again, and then it hits me that I'm only having fun when I'm making progress, and one of the core tenets of this game's design philosophy is making the player invest a lot of time in making progress and then just shitting a huge shit all over it. I know it's not a bad game, it's just not for me. And it makes me sad, because there's so many great things about it, and I would like to have a good time playing through the story.

We should play through it together. The boss fights seem easier with more people. We'll take some good preparation with making painkillers and such and I think we'll be alright. :yep:

I don't know – whenever I look up strategies to defeat the bosses they're all "you need to be level 50, and you should have two secret glitch burning bar stools and seven melee magazines, and obviouslyBrad, Jeff and the guy in the mecha from the secret final level should be with you, carrying hand-made bazookas. You'll need to stand on one exact spot to keep him from reaching you and then shoot for forty minutes and I'll stop my stupid exaggeration now, but you get the point. I'm up for playing co-op, of course, but I've no longer any hope of actually finishing the game.

I would honestly recommend that if you're having that much trouble with an optional psycho, just skip him. If it's a main boss I could offer some tips, I never really had to do anything that outlandish to get past anyone.

Also, flame spitters or drillers work on pretty much every boss.

Law of the damned universe. . .

It's now 20 dollars (and presumably euros) for the weekend.

*Sigh* :violin:
