Chris Posted May 5, 2010 Sup UK Thumbs. I am in your town of London for the next week or so and a few people have asked me if I was planning a UK meet. I am not planning one personally but if somebody who actually lives here and knows what a good situation would be wants to come up with a time, day, and place, I will show up to it, and most likely bring some other UK Thumbs veterans like B.M. Bronstrong and possibly Alex Ashby and Lawrence Bishop. Anyway, if folks are interested, feel free to post in this thread or shoot me an email at chris at idlethumbs dot net. If there is any interest, and a consensus in terms of location and time, I will post about it on the Thumbs front page and Twitter.
SignorSuperdouche Posted May 5, 2010 I'd be up for a pint or two, but mostly I want to say make sure you see Four Lions whilst you're over here. Goodness knows when, or if, it'll make it across the pond.
Patters Posted May 5, 2010 I would be up for it. Weekends are preferable.
James Posted May 5, 2010 I live in the vicinity of here, so sure, yes.
Sombre Posted May 5, 2010 STRONG. Bronstring Marek BM Bronstrong is the new Marek meme.
pabosher Posted May 6, 2010 I may not yet be 18, but I'd absolutely love to do this. I'm normally allowed in pubs and shit, I just don't like alcohol anyway! But yes please. A weekend would be preferred but you know, I'll make am effort either way!
Marek Posted May 6, 2010 (edited) How about next weekend (15 or 16th)? Someone maybe suggest a time/place? If a thing happens in an emergent way or open source style or whatever, I might appear there also. Edited May 6, 2010 by Marek
James Posted May 6, 2010 That weekend would probably be fine by me. The next would probably not be, as I will be moving. Abode, that is. Not just my body.

That would be ideal, I have one more week of lectures and heading down that weekend would be good. Casino arcade is great if there aren't too many people and they like fighting games. I'm not particularly familiar with London pubs, though the one near Casino Nevsky and I went to was pretty nice and pretty quiet for a Saturday, I think it was called the Rising Sun. Nevsky Posted May 7, 2010 Casino arcade is great if there aren't too many people and they like fighting games. I'm not particularly familiar with London pubs, though the one near Casino Nevsky and I went to was pretty nice and pretty quiet for a Saturday, I think it was called the Rising Sun. I agree with these statements. An official London Thumbs Meet would be fantastic. The only problem is I have the girlfriend arriving on the 15th at Gatwick in the late evening. Should still be able to stay out until 6-7pm, but the 16th is no good.
Scrobbs Posted May 7, 2010 Just scored a job down there, so will be around during the week. Could be fun! I only know london a little bit, and work in Holborn, so a pub in central would be good. Youngsters would still be good for that too, I guess.
Marek Posted May 7, 2010 Does anyone know a boring pub that no one goes to? I find that when picking a pub to meet up in central London can easily lead to disappointment as they're often crammed with people.
Scrobbs Posted May 7, 2010 The last time I went somewhere, it was a saturday afternoon and The Marquis of Granby was pretty empty all day. Not a bad pub either, and seemed to be reasonably priced. I imagine it won't be too packed of a weekday evening.
Ben X Posted May 9, 2010 I won't be around from the 14th to the 21st, and am having birthday drinks on the 22nd, so it looks like I won't be able to make it. Have fun!
Jake Posted May 9, 2010 I'd be up for a pint or two, but mostly I want to say make sure you see Four Lions whilst you're over here. Goodness knows when, or if, it'll make it across the pond. Is Four Lions good? I like Morris' stuff up through and including Jam, but am always dubious when so much time has passed between works. .... Oh yeah he did Nathan Barley didn't he? Scrobbs Posted May 9, 2010 (edited) Four Lions is fucking mint! Not as dark as Blue Jam/Jam, loads better than Nathan Barley (which I wasn't a big fan of). If anyone wants a meet, PM me for phone number. Edited May 9, 2010 by Scrobbs

Though this recent review makes me think it's not the best idea. Here is a link to the rising sun.
pabosher Posted May 10, 2010 Well I'm definetely still up for a Saturday meet. Would Chris be back in the US by then though?
James Posted May 10, 2010 I think we may have to decide on a date for this or it will end up not happening. I would probably favour this Saturday, but am flexible.
Sombre Posted May 10, 2010 I bet you are. James is flexible but...he doesn't have the reach.

Chris Posted May 11, 2010 Wednesday and Thursday evenings are bad for me, I have stuff planned then. Other days should be fine.
Scrobbs Posted May 11, 2010 That leaves tonight only for me I'm afraid. If folk can do short notice, tonight, 7pm @ rising sun, then I'm game. Otherwise will have to be next week, not sure if that's good for Chris. However, should anyone want to meet next week anyway, then I'm down.
