Grand Thumb Auto XLVIII: Brown Power

Recommended Posts

Might have to miss this out, revision is kicking my arse at the moment, though if I can get a decent amount done I'll treat myself to a break.

Ok, I have an evening class on Tuesdays that precludes me from this, but I have to know what the whole "brown" thing is about.

Action Shakespere may be racist, or black or neither; I'm really not sure.

Basically, darker colours don't show up so well on the minimap, giving whatever player is assigned brown an unintended advantage in sniper matches and the like. This prompted outbursts of "Goddamnit! Who's brown in this match?" which then turned to people being accused of racism for having issues with the HUD design.

Great game, everyone. That was hugely enjoyable, with too many highlights to fully recount (that crazy moment where everyone kept respawning in the same place with rocket launchers in their hands?).

One moment that really got me, but which probably isn't funny to anyone else, was in the final death match: The baseball bat fight in the airport. At one point, as I was running to the helicopters, I noticed a pink spot right behind me in the map. Almost on top of me, infact. It turned out I was being chased by Grippage... and I knew if I stopped for a second I'd have a baseball bat in the back of my head, so I kept running. And he kept following. Right behind me. Like some relentless Terminator.

Several minutes later (yes, minutes) Grippage is still right behind me and the helicopters are finally in sight. Except there's only one. When we get there, I just manage to squeak myself into the chopper before Grippage can do anything about it. I start to take off, but notice that he's trying to get into the passenger side... and suddenly I'm off the ground, but I feel bad.

After all that running it seems only fair that I should allow Grippage the chance of being a passenger. Why not? It'd probably be fun, too.

So I immediately begin my descent, and having only reached about 10 feet off the ground it's very quick... but find myself landing right on top of poor old Mr. Grippage, accidentally killing him instantly.

I went from trying to do something genuinely altruistic, to looking like a complete and total bastard in about two seconds. I'm very sorry, Mr G... but the it did crack me up for several minutes. I can't imagine how it looked from the outside... a helicopter rising a few feet, missing a passenger, then suddenly dropping down and squishing said hopeful, before flying off.

So many great moments. Great stuff. Also, the "in game" chat seemed to work a lot better than the party chat. We should do that again.

Sorry I wasn't there this week. Trying to finish the original Mass Effect is making me horribly antisocial. It's not that I don't love you; it's just that I hate you and wish that you would die slowly and alone and completely without hope or solace.

Hey, I finished my replay of ME1 about 40 minutes before GTA was scheduled to start. What I'm getting at here is: Man up.

I'm finding the in-game chat option better than party chat recently. My internet connection isn't amazing and can be pretty temperamental so I'm always paranoid that the party chat is taking up precious bandwidth on top of an already running in-game chat.

Tuesday was much fun. I'm forget most of the specifics now, but the concentrated spawning of rocket wielding fanatics on the pier was hilarious. Especially when you were just caught in an explosion sending you out to sea and having to swim back...
