miffy495 Posted September 11, 2008 Anyone got it? I could really go for some mindless action about now (so much so that I've been thinking about booting up Saints Row again just for kicks) and this game is looking like it may be the answer. Reviews are mid-range, but they were for Crackdown too and that game brought the fun like few others can hope to. What's the word, Thumbs?
Roderick Posted September 11, 2008 I don't know anything of this game, except that it has an awesome song attached to it. You can download it on the game's official site. Oh no you didn't!
Cigol Posted September 11, 2008 Am I going crazy or did the post reply button just do a number on me and move to the other side of the forum As for Mercenaries 2, I like it. It's fun, it's bombastic and it's very easy to pick up and play. The cooperative multiplayer is a nice touch too, as people can just jump in and out of a 'singleplayer' game at any time and help you inflict carnage. I liken it to freedom fighters and GTA, although not as good as either, but similar in the shooting mechanics of the former and the sandbox gameplay of the latter - but it never feels like a clone. It can be annoying and it's got a swathe of faults, but assuming you're just playing it for a laugh I can't see how that would affect your enjoyment. It's one of those games where the reviews are right, but who cares?
twmac Posted September 12, 2008 I thought this game was utter tripe. I loved the first one but this game does nothig new. The world feels just as empty as the first but it just feels inexcusable so many years on. The explosions are good fun and there is nothing like dropping a bunker buster, but I already did all of that in the first mission. The vehicle jacking is ripped off of Just-Cause, as is the setting... If you are desperate enough to be getting Saints Row then by all means try out Mercenaries 2. I'm not a big fan of Sandbox games (Mercenaries being among the few that I played to completion) so my oppion is always getting to be a bit biased.
miffy495 Posted September 12, 2008 Oh hell, I already owned Saints Row. I thought that game was not much special, but still quite a fun GTA clone. Still do. I enjoy it quite a bit despite how often the jokes fall completely flat. Never finished it though, and it turns out in the months since I last played it that my save file has become corrupted so now I have to start over from scratch. Played the first few missions the other night and not much has changed. Still feels like a current-gen version of the last-gen GTAs, but I'm fine with that. Still, thanks for the info on Mercenaries. I'm still interested, but it seems like a rental may be in order.
