Erkki Posted April 21, 2008 I just started playing Vice City again (on the PC), to get my GTA fix while waiting for IV to arrive in stores, but there's one issue I have: I just can't figure out which controls are right for me. And I don't remember what controls I used to use. It doesn't feel right steering with the WSAD keys, but if I switch to steering with arrows and leaning up/down with WS, that doesn't feel right either. What controls did you use? Cigol Posted April 21, 2008 It's worth having a PS2 controller for driving bikes because as you say it can be a bit of a problem when you want to lean forward/backwards. It's doable without the controller though, I remember I played the whole of Vice City on the WSAD setup, but if you're used to the fidelity a controller gives you when driving bikes it can feel a bit more awkward naturally! Did you buy the GTA collection on Steam or something? I own them all on the PS2 but couldn't resist finding another excuse to go through them

The only one I legally owned was GTA2 (which is actually the worst, hehe)
miffy495 Posted April 22, 2008 WASD for the basic movement, with the numpad 8426 for leaning. The only time I used a gamepad at any point during the trilogy was when I got the gold medals on the airstrip in SA. I keep on reading about how various journalists haven't actually finished a GTA's storyline in previews for 4, and I'm finding that really shocking. Each time one of the big three came out I played it for as long as it took, pretty much non-stop, to finish. The gamepad was very nice for flying, but I always found it a little odd when I tried to use it for driving. The one exception to this was also in SA when I'd occasionally grab a Freeway and tool around the back roads in the North-Eastern deserts of the map for an hour or so with K-DST blasting. Very relaxing and enjoyable. A problem I've had is getting a 360 controller to work on my computer. It just doesn't seem to do a damn thing. It's even worse when I launch a game through Steam for whatever reason. It's a bit irritating, because the entire reason I bought a wired 360 controller for a backup was for the PC compatibility. Anyone have some tips to get my controller up and running? I'd like to recapture the aforementioned biking fun with the version I bought through Steam, but can't get it going. Also, airplane missions are about 50 times harder without it. I'm still beating them, but goddamn.
ThunderPeel2001 Posted April 26, 2008 That's weird, I just plug mine and it works perfectly. Missing any updates?
miffy495 Posted April 26, 2008 Well, it seems to be working well enough now, although I can't get the right stick to do anything, so I can't use it to aim for shit or rotate the camera. Not a big deal with the planes, so I can now pilot the way I want to, but I can't use it for anything else. Oh well.
