To throw some insight onto Yufster's present screaming..

She just got told that she did not hold the job title she thought she did (team leader, essentially). Then she got reprimanded for not carrying out the duties required of a team leader.

This kind of thing happens a lot in the shittier suburbs of the game undustry, especially if you're in QA. And as Wrestlevania implied, probably all industry.

What? They told you not to do something and then scalded you when you didn't?

Anyone working in any industry's QA department automatically qualifies for my pity/sympathy.

I was The Anti-Bug-Raising Bastard on High for quite a while in a previous job, until I actually learned what "reasonable" and "compromise" meant. And by this I mean I was a programmer who fought QA's requests at every turn, without appreciate the (often very strict) test programmes that QA must work to.

I'm also well aware of just how cut throat QA Management can be--especially when it comes to taking a nice fat shit on their underlings. I think QA Management must eat a lot of Project Management Fibre, because - boy - is they regular.

Hope the extra long Bank Holiday weekend makes up for it, Yuf. cheerupsmiliesfx2.gif

No, they said, "you have no responsibility for this, but why haven't you taken responsibility for it anyway?" Because they're micro-managing cunts no doubt.

I don't think work sucks by definition, it's other that make it suck for you, and thus terrorizing a perfectly well working climate.

you see how I managed to insert two hot topic into that... I'm proud of myself

Next Wedsneday, I'm having a two-in-one interview for either a position of "project leader assistant" or "game designer"... I don't know what to expect. I hope The Industry won't hurt me much.

*raises hand* Bank Holiday crunch is awesome. As is thinking you are getting one job title, and getting a lower one with the same responsibilities. I dunno that this is really limited to the "shittier suburbs", unfortunately. ;(

And I take it the anger is because you told them to go fuck themselves for taking advantage to unacceptable levels and then subsequently got fired?

Bah to the games industry, most the people at the top got there by being good at making games and don't have a clue about managing people, they then teach those under them to be shit managers. These companies survive by taking advantage of idealistic young staff that have a real passion for games and see the chance of working in the industry as their golden opportunity.

That being said there are good aspects and cool people, but that can be left for another post.

Get out of it and enjoy games as hobby, go into a job where u can leave your soul at the door, like the world of finance, where u get shat on but adequately compensated for your efforts.
