The blue blur claimed his place on the Walk in the Favourite Games/Characters category over the likes of Tomb Raider's Lara Croft and Metal Gear's Solid Snake.The Metreon, in San Fran's downtown area, is a 350,000-square-foot entertainment Shangri-La, and the Walk of Game is a new landmark created to celebrate the icons and pioneers of the games industry. Shigeru Miyamoto, creator of Mario, and Nolan Bushnell, Atari founder and creator of Pong, also claimed spots on the Walk alongside Sonic. SEGA of America president Simon Jeffery and Takashi Iizuka, game director at SEGA Studio US, attended the event, and treated the crowds to a cool retrospective Sonic video. They also offered up a sneak peak at a forthcoming attraction in the Sonic universe, Shadow the Hedgehog. "As SEGA look forward to the future of the Sonic brand, it's good to look back at just how far this icon of computer games entertainment has come," said Matt Woodley, European marketing director of SEGA Europe. "From his first steps on the Mega Drive to chart-topping success in 2005, he's demonstrated his enduring appeal across all ages through the years. This is a worthy salute to a true gaming superstar."
