baconian Posted November 12, 2004 http://www.gamasutra.com/php-bin/news_index.php?story=4548 this is a gamasutra news article about a lawsuit whose results will be important for any games that allow user configuration or content creation. copyright law usually allows use of trademarks for academic or non-commercial use, and it's pretty clear to me that in this case the users aren't getting anything out of it, BUT with the commercialisation of game content seen in a lot of MMORPGs, it could become a skeleton of serious contention. I also think that it's rather stupid, because by telling NCsoft to remove the possibility for the super heros to look like registered trademarks they alienate people who are in their fanbase (ie: The people playing CoH). How much would you want to buy a comic after having devoted hours of your life to a game where you almost (but don't) get to play as Wolverine, only to be told that your character cant exist anymore?
