  1. Mass Effect 3

Did you play on console or PC?
  2. Unepic

    Easily ignorable.
  3. Movie/TV recommendations

Halfway through the first season of The X-Files... It's amazing how Scully is conveniently absent for every single incident that would prove SOMETHING WACKY is happenin', and even when she is present for something weird, she continues to insist there's a reasonable explanation. I actually really enjoy the Mulder/Scully dynamic, or I'd probably be ready to quit soon. Will it get old to me, though? Does she ever "believe"? She has to! There's nine seasons! AND TWO MOVIES! Dang how did they go for that long. I wonder how The X-Files would feel if it were made today. A lot of this is stuff I'd absolutely have bought into when I was younger. Was it ever a big hit among adults at the time? Or was it just a product of its time, and a new X-Files with more modern myths and legends would feel to adults today as X-Files of yesteryear felt then? As it is, most of this stuff is just weird and cheesey and not really even remotely believable. Which is fine. I'm okay with that. I enjoy thinking about all of these things for the first time even though I'm sure it's been discussed and dissected to death among older fans.
  4. Mass Effect 3

That does make it sound more interesting than I expected, at least, but I'm more concerned with the core FEEL of Mass Effect. I don't know if ME3 makes it better than ME2 (hopefully it does!), but ME2 just... FELT lame. I don't like using this word because it has a lot of unnecessary wait with a certain crowd, but: GUNPLAY. It ain't feel gooood. The core gameplay is that of a shooter amplified by special powers (be they shields or drones or mini black holes or whatever), and the shooting just does not feel great. It doesn't help that I also HATE over-the-shoulder cameras. Absolutely DESPISE them.

Is the co-op online? EDIT: I don't know why I ask questions that are easily Googleable! The answer is YES! I didn't even know it had co-op at all! I own the game. It actually is pretty fun. (It's also god terribly cheesy writing, which is right up my alley. When I say terrible, I mean it. And cheesy. NOT FOR EVERYONE! Easily ignorable.)
  6. Recently completed video games

I find the combat in Mass Effect pretty boring, so I'm sort of surprised you'd say a horde mode redeemed the game. But yeah I know all of the squad members you can get in ME3. None of them are characters I like or want to see. Blargh. (That's not totally true, but they're all the least interesting ones.) I'm also aware of how the game ends and it's disgusting. They may have been terrible writers, these Bioware fellows, but they crafted a super rad world, and I don't understand I DON'T UNDERSTAND. And they're making a sequel. Shit's weird, man. Anyway, that's beyond the scope of this thread. OH OH OH. ALSO. It's hinted at in ME2 that the asari don't ACTUALLY look like humans - they just look like blue-skinned whatever-race-you-are. So salarians see salarians with blue skins and tentacle heads. I found this hilarious and sad.

I finally played Mass Effect 2. What awkward dialogue. People think this is good? Hm. I mean the game was okay overall. It was dumb super sci-fi/future-fantasy bullshit, which is fun. But that writing... Anyway, Mordin is amazing. Grunt was surprisingly great, too. I really enjoy the salarian/krogan dynamic. Also I weirdly feel like there's LESS squadmate interaction than there was in the first game? You'd think Tali and Legion would be constantly bickering if you bring both of them on a mission. Granted, you do get Legion pretty late... I wonder how I'd feel about Mass Effect 1 today. I remember liking it a lot more, but back then video games were KNOWN and PRAISED for their awkward writing! Now we have Telltale, among others. Regardless, I already know Mass Effect 3 is the worst of the series because I looked it up and Mordin is not an available squad member. Even more egregious, there's no salarian squad member PERIOD. And no krogan. Someone go tell Bioware they're fucking idiots. Thanks. SALARIANS ARE THE BEST RACE IN MASS EFFECT. Though Elcor certainly give 'em a run for their money. (I also like the history of the hanar/drell relationship. I also really really really want a recent-Telltale-style(/developed? I mean they're doing BORDERLANDS c'mon also I feel like I can trust them more than Bioware to deliver dialogue that doesn't make me laugh or roll my eyes when I'm not supposed to - I mean I understand that these games take a LOT OF WORK AND PLANNING, but if you can't deliver on the small scale, don't make a trilogy of games that are each 20+ hours, dummies) game set in the Mass Effect universe on the Citadel.)
  8. I Had A Random Thought...

I'm still mad they got rid of the awesome enemies from the original big XCOM FPS reveal. MAD. SO MAD!!!!
  9. Life

I laughed again! That's AT LEAST two laughs today!
  10. Life

To top of my lonely Christmas I finished my last placement match in ranked Dota 2 matchmaking and I have a lower matchmaking rating than my friend. We both played all our placement matches together. Also we're both lower than another person we all agree is terrible at Dota 2. Me, significantly lower. Video games. Life. Welcome.
  11. Life

    I laughed!
  12. I'm Going to Make a Game

YOU SHUT YOUR MOUTH oh wait you're right but i still love it so YOU SHUT YOUR GADDAMN MOUTH RIGHT THIS INSTANT OR MY GOD I'LL Still mad the 4th Goblins game EXISTS. Eurgh it is gross to look at. (I have no idea how it holds up gameplay wise.)
  13. I'm Going to Make a Game

Yeah it definitely suffers (ymmv) from a large amount of expositional dialogue. Gotta get that backstory out somehow!!!
  14. I'm Going to Make a Game

The Longest Journey is very much in the vein of older click-'em-ups, FWIW. Complete with obtuse puzzles that make you hate video games. It does boast a much bigger emphasis on HUGE EPIC STORY than most games of its ilk, but I still wouldn't ever group it with The Walking Dead or Beyond: Two Souls. Not to say any of those games aren't (or are!) worth playing... just felt I should emphasize the difference between those games, because they are very different!
  15. anime

I am pretty sure Kill la Kill is going for two seasons. And also if they ended it in another two episodes, I can't imagine how they'd tie up all the loose ends they've introduced. I mean even this last episode ended on a note that feels like it could be more than a few episodes all on its own, even with the unusually fast pace this anime moves at.
  16. anime

Yo guys I been watchin' Log Horizon. I know it's one of those "oops we're all in an MMO for real now how craaaaay cray!" but. It's like really good man. Takes a few episodes to really get going (WHAT ANIME DOESN'T, GODDAMN), but I'm gettin' some serious Spice and Wolf vibes from this shit. Not in that it's all about trading (although there is some of that!), but in the way it presents and emphasizes planning and negotiation (separately and together).
  17. Haha I don't even. How about you look back at your response to tegan for a second, here, just one second. How about you consider that maybe instead of assuming that she wasn't being serious, you could've just ASKED HER WHAT SHE MEANT. As it is, I don't really care if you're offended by whatever my posts do or do not imply. First language English or not, you're still being a jerk, again and again. So learn from your mistakes (past evidence suggests you won't!) or, well, leave?
  18. anime

I'm not very familiar with the various anime production studios, so I don't know from KyoAni. But a quick Google confirms that they've produced two of my favorites. Hyouka and Nichijou. (I also like Haruhi, but wouldn't count it as one of my favorites. Also worth mentioning is Full Metal Panic Fumoffu, which is something I fully enjoyed without knowing a single damn thing about Full Metal Panic.)
  19. anime

I feel the same way about Beyond the Boundary. I finished it up (I think it's done now?) and didn't even find it worth mentioning. It's definitely very pretty, but... that's it. U: Latest episode of Kill la Kill restored my faith in Kill la Kill. Mostly because Mako. MAKO.
  20. Starbound

I would play on a Starbound multiplayer server. I can offer nothing more than this promise, unfortunately.
  21. Maybe Rxanadu's first language is not English, and that's why Rxanadu did not understand tegan's post that we all grasped immediately. I suspect that's not the case, given how Rxanadu's posts are written, but who knows.
  22. that's mine i haven't played for a while but i probably will again soon
  23. Idle Thumbs Accompaniment?

I split the episodes into five minute blocks, slap 'em all on top of each other, and listen to the result. That way I only waste five minutes of my life doing nothing but listening to a podcast episode.
  24. anime

Dang I was also going to mention Kyousougiga. I don't think it's the best show this season. It doesn't really have much going for it besides insane wacky insanity. Buuuuut I'm only three episodes in. (Two if you don't count the "Episode 0" on Crunchyroll, which I understand is one part of a series of OVAs or something.) EDIT: Just watched episode four. Maybe I'm changing my mind regarding how much the show has going for it. MAYBE. WHO KNOWS!! I really like Samurai Flamenco. Although I'm still conflicted on the whole tone shift. I think I need to wait until it's over before I decide whether or not I actually like it. Kill la Kill was great but this whole "fight the big guys one by one" series of episodes is not very exciting. (I have no watched the latest episode, yet.) Taken individually, each episode is still pretty good, but when you string them together like this... not as big a fan. Needs more Mako. The earlier episodes were so much better. And by that I mean the middle episodes. Starting at episode four and ending with the first of these fights, probably.
