  1. I've had luck talking about games to people who don't play games by not referring to them as games. Example: Firewatch, which I referred to as an interactive film more than a game (though that's not the language I'd personally use in conversation with people who DO play games and are already familiar with the language of games). Talking about it that way piqued people's interest in ways that talking about it as a game didn't. Source: a bunch of rando Lyft drivers taking me to and from work. Obviously this can be extrapolated to the public at large without any flaws whatsoever. Now, did any of them go home and play Firewatch? Probablyyyyyyy not... But at the very least, they showed active interest and engaged in ways once I stopped talking about it as a game. So, the words we use can have an effect. I think there's value in at least considering this. I'm going to regret entering a what-is-game conversation. I can already feel it.
  2. The Ultimate Playthrough, Metal Gears!?

Peace Walker's an interesting game, but imo mostly only intellectually, as the predecessor to MGSV. It's very restricting in its gameplay, because it plays out in missions, but is far far far less open than MGSV ends up being, even though the game/menu structure is nearly identical, heh. I'd say give it a shot and if you aren't feeling it, feel free to drop it. Definitely don't 100% it, though, as that will drive you mad. (I haven't 100%'d it, but I do intend to some day. I'm already mad!) EDIT: And yeah I get what you're saying re: editor, and those are definitely thoughts I've personally had before, too. Buuttttttttt at the same time, like I said, I like that there exists someone who has the privilege to just display their mind vomit on the screen in high-budget video game format. I wish we had more of that, to be honest. (Preferably in the form of people who aren't as undeniably sexist as Kojima D: !!!) Editors be damned. Let people go nuts. Twitter's a funny analogy, and I like it. It's also somewhat accurate. But there's a fundamental difference between a series of 140 character messages and a game that costs millions to make, heh.
  3. http://www.keyframespodcast.com/podcast/08-amorous-lady-squirrel/ Slowest turnaround from recording to posting? I think so! Wasn't just more than a week though... WAS ALMOST A YEAR THOUGH!!!
  4. The Happy Thread

This is not the right thread.
  5. The Happy Thread

It's been a while for me... Uh, I finally edited another episode fo Key Frames, the podcast about anime that me and n1nja and Gorm and Duncan (and sometimes other people) do! It's only literally almost a year late! www.keyframespodcast.com That's sort of happy! I hope to edit the others in the backlog so we can start recording again, and then be consistent in a release schedule, 'cause I love doing it, even if so few people listen!!
  6. The Weekly X Files Rewatch Thread

I honestly think my breaking point was in the first season when she was in the same room as a werewolf and she refused to believe it was a werewolf because she had her eyes closed or whatever. I kept watching a while after that, like I said, into season four, but it was so dumbbbbbb. The fact it KEPT HAPPENING made it worse.
  7. The Weekly X Files Rewatch Thread

" Scully's increasingly ridiculous incredulousness " This is what drove me off the most, I think. She's literally in the same room as some fuckin' intense supernatural shit and then the next episode she's back to "i dunno tho!!!!!!!!" and I can't. I think treating it as an anthology show does work best, hah.
  8. The Weekly X Files Rewatch Thread

I tried watching it and got bored somewhere in the middle of season three or four. Have no desire to ever go back. ): Most of the monsters of the week were dumb, and the mythology stuff wasn't really all that interesting. C'est la vie.
  9. Yeah, what has Trump done so far that you think is good?
  10. lol I can't even with your trolling anymore. I hope you one day wake up and realize this isn't all a joke.
  11. But all your responses are just "you just don't like my views" and then basically accusing everyone of being unreasonable for expecting you to put more thought into why you disagree. "You just don't like my views" is not an argument. Also: Trump is already pissing off China, and, as you say, he's not even inaugurated yet. WAIT AND SEE, WAIT AND SEE. Survival of human race: like refusing to admit climate change is real, and nominating the CEO of ExxonMobil for Secretary of State, eh? Meanwhile: Russia will gladly go to war. Are you blind to what they're already doing? Feeling more secure in its relationship with the US won't stop them.
  12. The Ultimate Playthrough, Metal Gears!?

He needs an editor but I'm glad he doesn't have one, because very few people have the privilege to make something with these ridiculous budgets without being edited. I don't like everything he does or has to say in his games, but it's interesting experiencing his mind vomit.
  13. DOTA 2

    That would be accurate, yeah.
  14. The Ultimate Playthrough, Metal Gears!?

Yeah if you don't play all of the previous games, MGS4 is completely meaningless jibberish. But if you have, Raiden and Vamp showing up isn't all that shocking.
  15. The Ultimate Playthrough, Metal Gears!?

Here's the thing about the story of MGS games: it might be complex at times, but it's very rarely confusing, because at every single step, every single thing is explained.* This holds true all the way up until MGS4, at which point some of the stuff becomes somewhat unclear, but not anywhere near the degree the internet might make you believe. Basically the joke that "MGS is incomprehensible because it's complex" has become reality because any joke repeated enough to people who don't know better becomes reality. (MGSV, however, is very obviously and blatantly just an unfinished game. So you won't get shit out of it, except a few minor retcons, even if you've played all the previous games.) *MGS2 spoilers:
  16. The Ultimate Playthrough, Metal Gears!?

MGS1 is one of those rare PS1 games that still graphically holds up today. It's awesome!
  17. The Ultimate Playthrough, Metal Gears!?

Yeah no chance of that happening, I wouldn't worry about it.
  18. Yeah GCN VC would be fucking awesome and I'm defo stoked for it!!!! It also makes me think Wii VC isn't out of the question (it is more powerful, but not THAT much more powerful), although there is the question of interface. Doubt the Switch will come with a sensor bar. Also interesting detail about the GCN VC: it's allegedly being developed by the NERD team, responsible for... well, I'll just quote the rather impressive list from Wikipedia They're very obviously some fuckin smart people. If I were a better programmer, I think I'd like to work there. They do cool shit. They're clearly the team Nintendo created to do specifically challenging things like this and I love it.
  19. Wizard Jam 4 Feedback

I'll also say that I literally had no idea Dot Gobbler was a thing this jam. I just started doodling on my new toy and the Dot Gobbler came out of the scratches and scribbles. I thought it was an amusing coincidence that Spenny's mid jam power move also starred the Dot Gobbler, and then learned it was in like EVERY GAME. Which made me laugh even more.
  20. there's no way i'm going to finish this before tomorrow 11pm but i made this, at least
  21. As far as I know, Fallon does genuinely love video games, so while I'm sure he's playing it up a bit for the crowd, I don't think he's faking anything. I don't really like his show, though, so whatever haha.
