Nope. Anybody going to GDCOnline in Austin?

If you're targeting mobile or web, it's a decent way to go. But it's hard to beat UDK's license for anything else. Basically free till you make enough money to afford it, and then it only starts charging it's percentage on money made after that initial (fairly high) amount.

Yeah it's interesting. I hear the marketplace can be alright as well if you want to write some tools or create assets for other developers.

I stopped playing because I was absolutely plagued with lag and connection issues.

Loaded up the 3rd and 4th epochs on my local, and that is some truely impressive stuff. It's interesting foraging through the abandoned buildings, trying to find materials, I may have to turn up the difficulty and make a survival out of it. Also, strange moment when I arrived at El Meurte's Tracy Island. Somebody had left a tamed wolf there, and he barked happy at my arrival outside the mine cart station. It reminded me of the this story from Japan: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hachik%C5%8D -
Honestly, I can't stand the way EA is behaving. Putting their game exclusively on Origin is one thing, but issuing press releases about how they're the victim is too much. They should be trying to gain customer trust through positive means, not by negative campaigning.

Making a sand castle up in the lake to the north of Dun Killstar. Help is welcome. Feel free to destroy, but be careful because sand has a tendency to landslide and i wouldn't want the whole thing coming down. Also I really don't like the dome I put on the front, if you're better a circular stuff go nuts. -

I'm certainly not casting blame, and there are probably much bigger factors as you said. But I thought that it might have been something that might have had a few disadvantages. Turnover in a gaming community is a constant battle of attrition, so it's not surprising that after so much time people have other things to do. Also, on another note. That's crazy how much money it costs to run a Minecraft server. As a Java developer it's not surprising that it uses that much memmory, but I really think they could optimize the crap out of that if they tried. -

I'm just thumbing my way through the old pages of this thread backwards, and have yet to really see much of what happened in the old epochs. But I have a thought. Could the diaspora from the spawn to preserve the natural beauty of the spawn point led to some disinterest in continuing play? I spent a little while roaming around finding little amazing nuggets of architecture, but it had a feeling of emptiness. There was one point I was walking around in a jungle and it was dark, and raining, and I kept seeing echos of civilization, but when I got to the structures they were incomplete. It was a bit of a Jurassic park feeling. Also a bit post-apocalyptic. I like the general idea of a central train depot that feeds off to far attractions, but I feel like it'd be nicer if there was a central hub where people were showing off with smaller scale architecture, with a focus on collaboration and completion. Something like the Vegas strip where everything is out of control and compact, but you can get out of the core and check out a larger scale passion project. Maybe we've been down this road before, I'll continue to dig into the past. -
4zgYG-_ha28 The talk starts out as a pretty technical look behind the scenes, but about an hour in he just drops all pretense and starts talking full blown about software development process.

may I have building credentials? Just taking a tour now. -
That's unbelievable. I know at least Jeff at GiantBomb has some bad things to say about it.Seriously, why not just watch some anime. That appears to be the only thing anyone is interested in here. Why let a bunch of bizzare block pushing puzzles get between you and what you want. It doesn't look like they add anything to the experience but frustration. Also, the special edition coming with panties and a pillowcase are just creepy as fuck.
-
I want to clarify that I don't find that Giant Bomb is doing anything morally "wrong". It's just an odd situation, and even when they're spending hours talking about how they aren't impartial, they've still spent hours talking about the game. They spend hours talking about a lot of games, it's just what they do. But my question isn't whether they should be doing it or not, but whether this game is getting more hype than it deserves. After listening to a bunch of different outlets cover this game, I have no idea how genuine any of this coverage really is. Either this is a downloadable title with literally no faults worth mentioning, or they're pulling their punches. Anyways when it gets down to it, I'm really just disappointed that a lot of the people that seem to be hype machines whenever a games journalist or close friend is involved, will turn around take take the piss out of another game for something completely minor and random. If they're going to be optimistic during reviews of their friends projects, then I wish they'd look at the rest of the industry as their peers as well.
-
Agreed, but honestly whether they run a review or not doesn't really affect me at all. I appreciate that they're up front with their association with the game, but they have pimped the hell out of it.
-
I find that Games journalists can't help themselves from giving this game special treatment. Maybe it's the access they're being given, or maybe it's their friendship with Greg (Kasavin). But everyone and their mother is all up on this game. Which is fine, I think positivity in the media isn't a bad thing, but it's strange how people like Garnett Lee can be selectively reductive and shit talk games for being "just clicking things", and spend weeks hyping up "Bast-eon". And with Giant Bomb practically running a developer diary for the game, it's hard to find their impartiality. I haven't read a game review in over a decade, and I'm not the type to care about the scores or the journalistic integrity of 20-somethings being payed minimum wage. But podcasts have typically been free of a lot of this type of "bias", as people used them as an opportunity to talk about a game instead of score it. Now I can't tell if this game is really compelling, or not because everyone seems to be saying "hey look, my friend made an indie game". When games like Diablo get called "skeleton click game" by reductive podcasters, how can Bastion's coverage be so glowing?

Has anyone ever had fun in the "find the next number in a series" puzzles? They're a chore and extremely ambiguous. Especially when they've only got 4 seed numbers.

Trine for 90% off was a steal. It's still on for another few hours.
-
oh the game is absolutely broken for solo play. It's do-able, but you need to cheese your way through quite a few fights. Multiplayer requires a good friend with a lot of patience and a good sense of humour. Also the server browser and netcode is attroicious. You're lucky to connect to anybody who hasn't given you a steam game invite. That said, it's a unique experience and a ton of fun.

If anybody wants to do today's summer sale objective, send me a message through the Thumbs steam group.

One of the first problems has a more optimal answer that I tried and got punished for. Basically I the one with the papers I answered in a way that it was possible to have 51 flyers make it through town if one of the paths wasn't chosen, and 50 in the others. Just a bit frustrating to happen right away.

I've been trying to figure out why I didn't get a free copy of PA1 on steam when I just bought PA2. Realized I bought the original on the TTG site. Ah well. Super excited that I have time to play through this game this weekend.

I think Wave is now with Apache. Which means something may come out of it that's somewhat usable for small businesses and stand-alone instances, but as a social platform it's dead for sure. A bunch of it's features have creeped into other Google products. Google+ looks interesting. If anybody has an invite, let me know, I'd love to try it out.

I tried to buy it but my visa is frozen 'cause I went to Vegas and they got suspicious. Spent 15 mins on hold, finally got through to someone, he said I could use my card but it's still frozen. NOW I MAY HAVE TO PAY FULL PRICE! Ah well, I just spent 30 bucks on dinner, it's hard to complain.
