  1. I haven't seen all your work, but I've always really liked your modern take on the illuminated manuscript style drawings you've posted around here. If I were a richer man, I'd probably just pay you to fill up a leather journal with them and send it to me. Journals with lots of sketches have appealed to me since I saw The Last Crusade as a kid. I'm sure there are nerds out there with disposable income who'd love something like that. The problem is finding them.
  2. Recently completed video games

I fell on the other side of experience with the gameplay parts, finding it a little boring. Getting new weapons was always neat, but I felt their novelty wore off quickly. That said, it was definitely the animation quality that kept me going. Shank 2 has the same gameplay problems, but has really visually stunning moments as well. There's a particular scene on a rope bridge during a lightning storm that sticks with me. I didn't mind the game's length, though I was surprised every now and then that the game was still going. The part I enjoyed most was what Rockstar's various studios have managed to do best: really compelling environments. The dirty New York bar, the yacht, the high rise, and the favelas were all rendered really well. As usual, I also kind of wished they would put this much effort into making a game that didn't use such great renditions as just playgrounds of violence. L.A. Noire veered in that direction, but the location felt more important as a backdrop than as an active participant in the narrative.
  3. Uplay

Same situation here. While I didn't like having multiple clients to manage my game library, launching Origin and Uplay was more of a small annoyance than anything else. UPlay's patching process is so actively bad though that I've stopped playing Splinter Cell for a bit. Tangent, the patches also broke my game so I actually had to redownload it and keep it from updating. Blergh.
  4. The E3 Retrospectapalooza

"We actually meant 'Year of the PS3'!"
  5. Visual Art!

    Quality cowboy.
  6. One of the few times I've literally laughed out loud at a video game. I always found Bioware romance stories unbelievable and formulaic (talk to the NPC enough and they'll want to fuck), so this really hit a good note for me.
  7. I can affirm this. I didn't play ME3 until this past Christmas when I picked up the edition with the Javik DLC for cheap. I'd also been on the lookout for a special edition packs with the story DLC for either ME2 and 3, but never found any. Contrast that with being able to pick up Dragon Age: Origins with all the DLC for $5.
  8. P Diddy is the rap game Majesco Entertainment.
  9. Ability to open doors: check. Ability to bust through walls: check. Ability to manipulate hose attached to poison gas tank and slip it into hole: probably. Also, Google building self-driving cars and also a robot that drives cars reminds me of last ep's discussion of a robot built to press a button.
  10. General Video Game Deals Thread

I believe the only attention this game ever got on the podcast was being described as a combination of Real World meets Walking Dead, but Zafehouse: Diaries is on sale over at GoG. I remember enjoying it the few hours I played it.
  11. Unnecessary Comical Picture Thread

It might have been due to the complete lack of sleep, but this GIF got me into one of those laughing fits where you can't breathe for 3 minutes or so.

    This track is still fire:
  13. I Can't Go For That (Game Series)

It's my fault for not stating this more clearly: it's not that I find Diablo II's loot game bad, it is just that I don't find loot particularly interesting. Similar to my dislike/anxiety about stats, spending time trying to figure out which minor increase will increase my DPS, casting rates, etc by a tiny bit isn't something I find enjoyable. Mostly I want new powers to make cool things happen on screen. Borderlands' loot was the most interesting to me b/c guns could have distinctly different visual and combat effects. I think what I want is a Costume Quest-style ARPG. I'll definitely give it a look. That sounds way more approachable.
  14. Life

So Kanye West's first single was 'Through the Wire,' which he made after a car accident left him with his jaw wired shut. It's an uplifting song about overcoming bad stuff. I bring this up b/c today I had my last of three visits to the dentist and as I was finishing up, the song that he sampled on that single- Chaka Khan's 'Through the Fire'- started playing. Got me in good mood.

I've just learned this exists and I can't stop smiling: Swag swag like Caillou.
  16. I Can't Go For That (Game Series)

So I've put DeathSpank aside for now, but I still wanted to give the genre a shot, considering that I remember having fun with Torchlight some 5 years ago. I booted up Diablo II and I'm enjoying it. I think part of my anxiety with these games is making builds; I fear that I'll build a terrible character and end up having to lose progress. I'm following some sorceress build and there's some really neat things about this game. Specifically, there's a really satisfying feeling knowing that I can encounter a huge group of characters and just lay waste with charged bolt. The way the attack lights up dungeons is really cool as well. That said, I'm still not finding the loot grind interesting. I think I've changed my equipment just a handful of times and I'm already level 12. I plan to mess around with a few more of the classes, but I'm not sure if I'll finish the game as I'm planning to play a more modern version. Maybe Torchlight 2?
  17. One would say it had a super cool ending. csimiami.gif
  18. Did you know that in Assassin's Creed 4 you play a hipster named Max Level?
  19. I Can't Go For That (Game Series)

    Isn't this a Lil' B album?
  20. Life

Sounds like a big decision; congrats!
  21. Quitter's Club: Don't be ashamed to quit the game.

Naw, I just love that picture. Also, news came out a couple of hours ago that he passed away. Damn.
  22. The Dancing Thumb (aka: music recommendations)

So I played the original Fallout in 2010. During that time the girl I was dating was really into Yorke and had given me a mix of his music which included this song. I played that mix over and over while wandering the wastes and now particular songs of his immediately remind me of the game. Ran into this tonight while browsing my music library and now all I can think about is Fallout 1. Blerp.
  23. Life

Went to the dentist yesterday and had a deep cleaning. Also, I had a ton of cavities and have two more appointments within the week. Also, it's going to cost me $1700 I can't afford. On the positive side... I get to keep my teeth and don't need surgery?
