  1. Games that nail atmosphere and immersion

I find myself in total agreement. Cyan were the best in creating strange, but incredibly beautiful worlds, yet grounded in their own internal logic. I also think they set the bar for things like that really, really high and I don't think anyone has been able to surpass it yet. Although I'm not sure how many folks are trying to. Do correct me if I'm wrong.
  2. Planetside 2

Great shots! This reminds me that I like grassy fields and trees way better than sandy desert and canyons.
  3. Planetside 2

The Hot Drops squad was in full effect tonight! Yea, just look at those handsome devils. They conspired to murder me shortly after this shot was taken, the monsters. It was pretty great. We had a full squad for a large portion of the night and many mans were shot and some died by crashing their air vehicle into rocks.
  4. Yes, you'd think big guns would have a lot of recoil, but the simple fact of added weight adds stability. When I was last in the states, I fired a smaller snubnosed magnum and a damn big one. The small one, really damn hard to control. A lot of kickback! The big one, not nearly as much.
  5. Planetside 2

A heads up to everyone wanting to play tonight. The new patch dropped and it's 4GB. oh and patch notes if anyone is interested: http://forums.statio...-02-2013.87343/

    Damn beautiful.
  7. Thirty Flights of Loving

Go Steve, but first wait a moment too long for that dude to pick up a chair and start throwing it! P.S. I kind of agree with Luftmensch. (Not talking the inflammatory bit Erkki quoted) Edit: Ok, I thought that this might be relevant. It's a thing from Rules of Play (by Katie Salen and Eric Zimmerman). Also I dropped my phone and now there is a dark spot in all my pictures. My point being, that there are all these smart people with different ideas of what constitutes a game; there is no consensus and if you think you've defined what a game means, then honestly I think you're full of shit. We've nowhere near formalized what a game is and I think that definition will keep evolving as people do things we can't even foresee now. Hence my agreement with Luftmensch and disagreement with Thunderpeel. In my mind, having these games where (sometimes) the only aspect is something purely experiential still constitutes a game.
  8. This is the new (console) shit!

http://www.edge-onli...ion-4-revealed/ Some fancy gimmicks and the relevant part I wanted to bitch about: I keep hearing that the PS4 is going to be more powerful than the new Xbox, but all that means to me is that it's going to be the expensive one; not that it's likely I'll buy either console at launch. I'm still way more curious about the games and what Sony/MS are going to do with their software stuff. Oh my god, the marketing bullshit shit storm that's coming.

  10. Planetside 2

I completely forgot about that, but in the mean time Toblix messaged me and offered to host one! So now we have a Mumble! Our Mumble is: idlethumbs.mumble.com port 8302 password: wizaaaaaaaard (That's 8 a's)
  11. Planetside 2

A Mumble would be pretty sweet, actually. Does anyone have the means to set one up for the Planetside group?
  12. Planetside 2

All steam stuff is in your own local time.
  13. Proteus

It would be a waste of your time. It's just a handful of guys trolling and spouting verbal diarrhea . People are smart enough to make up their own minds if they're interested in it or not. Do their opinions dissuade any of us in getting the game?
  14. Proteus

Those poor fucks. Their precious hobby is being hijacked by these pretentious art games. We gotta rise up and defend gaming, bros!
  15. Oh yea, that's another thing. When we first started playing, my friend had to link his account thing. So it asks you to log in to the Steam website. The friggin website kept saying his login info was wrong, while it wasn't. It got to the point where he did screen share so I could see what he was doing and yea. He logged in and out with Steam with his credentials, did the same on the website and that didn't work. Bizarre. After an hour and trying like different browsers, it finally just went through. Anyway, the point being is that everyone had the game installed, we were looking forward to playing, but now you have to deal with that shit for over an hour.
  16. Planetside 2

Alright, here's what I did. I removed the early one, put the new one to take place an hour and a half earlier. At this point I'm thinking, I'm simply never going to please every one in terms of time and date, so this is the time I'll be organizing this shit. I hope everyone will understand. If anyone reading this hasn't been added to the Idle Thumbs outfit yet, if you add me to your steam thingy, I'll do that before our playdate, so when the time comes we can be done with assigning squads a lot quicker. Just in case we get more people than fit into 1 squad, is there someone here who'd like take on the role of squad leader (only prerequisite being that you know what you're doing in the game)?
  17. Life

Are you fucking kidding me?? That's just.. UGH!! xzdm, fnvaljdsesdpo
  18. Planetside 2

It's because Steam events does this weird thing that if you schedule it on, let's say February 1st, it won't actually display until it's February. If you check for next month, you'll see that they're there. "These are the events taking place this month" as opposed to "These events are taking place in the next 4 weeks" which'd make more sense.
  19. What does your view look like?

    Oh, I'm shaking, I'm shaking.
  20. Planetside 2

I took the liberty of scheduling in that event. If there's any adjustments to be made, let me know.

    http://www.youtube.com/watch?feature=player_embedded&v=7o3Oi9JWsyM Hmm, quite!
  22. Movie/TV recommendations

My experience was pretty similar and I ended up enjoying it a lot, although I gotta say it's one of those movies where the depictions of violence made me slightly uncomfortable at times. Other times, I really liked the sheer bluntness and brutality. It did feel appropriate for that world.
  23. Torchlight 2. Got it for the sole purpose so some friends of mine and me could play together. Little did we know that the online is fucking attrocious, with connection problems up the ass. Fucking terrible experience and drained all my will to continue with this thing. It's supposed to be peer to peer, but no matter what we did, connection troubles involved having to look at a loading screen for over a minute until it finally decided to connect us. If we did finally get together, it would sometimes randomely disconnect everyone and then not tell you you were playing single player. Until the inevitable "Huh, where are you guys?". Fuck. That. Shit.
  24. Disney buys Lucasfilm

I bet I'm not the only one that had to suppress his laughter in theaters when Darth Vader did his "NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!"?
