My school had an Info Science focus that was focused on web tech (CMS', search engines, indexing) and things like UX and info architecture, which dovetailed nicely with my interests and work experience/job at the time. My undergrad was non-technical so it was helpful that the MLIS didn't require a CS or hard science bachelor's.

High five. Finished my MLIS 2 years ago.

I don't have artistic talent, aesthetic sense or much imagination, but I have a certain amount of anal-retentitiveness. Comes in handy when sitting down in front of a copybook. I absolutely need to practice more before I write up the gift note, though - it's been a while since I wrote (my somewhat-altered version of) Spencerian and I'm overcompensating with a death-grip on the pen instead of relaxing and letting it flow.

I know how to repair a book binding! Or I did until I forgot.

Wikipedia is not considered a reliable source of information for research papers and scholarly works, no. It can, however, be a good starting point for such things if you're only held to an UG standard - hit the "References" and you'll probably find your way to a good vein of academic/peer reviewed sources more appropriate for such purposes. Qualifications: I have an MS in Library Science which included study of information gathering and expected/actual research behaviors amongst undergraduate students.

The "gift note" itself will have a "cover letter" to make sure no-one reads the gift note too early. Since the cover letter is fairly simple, I went ahead and wrote it: Bit sloppy, and the "Yours" is misaligned, but it'll do.

Also, please, can someone do a picture of Nick? I know he's nondescript and therefore hard to draw, but I don't want his heart broken when the "Nick" canvas arrives and it's blank.

Holy shit, BigJKO, that's fantastic. I'd love to send a canvas for every single artwork that someone's done, but I don't know if we can cover it with the donations we have... Random idea I haven't tought about at all: maybe, as well as the "winners" being put on canvas and sent, we could... assemble all the submitted artworks into one image and send a poster or print of that, too? I could get that printed locally and grab a gaudy frame for it? Edit: oh hahahaha he's holding a Spelunky explorer's hat!

The donation period has ended! tl;dr: We have enough money for what we want to do, and more. I would love for Idle Thumbs forum members who are artists to provide artwork. Artists will receive a small $ in return for use of their artwork. Total funds: ~$395 (some funds are not in USD, therefore total may vary subject to exchange rate fluctuations during conversion) Allocated funds: $210 Unallocated funds: ~$285 Our next steps are to gather artwork, and decide on what art will be used for what canvas. Read on... I appreciate the thoughts and suggestions everyone has offered in this thread. If your idea doesn't get turned into a gift, please don't feel slighted. Oh, also, I propose that since we're 4 pages into this bad boy, we stop using spoilers.

Why do QA always find the interesting bugs an hour after I've shut down my VM?
