  1. Robot Russian Roulette

Hello, Wizard Jammers I'm Ben, for this Jam I'm hoping to make my first game with Unity based on the Idlethumbs episode 269 : Robot Russian Roulette. I found the title very evocative of Bond style high stakes gambling with the obvious Russian/Soviet twist mixed with the wacky but ominous Robot future. The episode joke is very much based on humans playing "Russian Roulette" risking being harmed by the robots, so I obviously want to subvert that and take the title more literally. Robots playing a pseudo-random potentially lethal gambling table game. I envision a grungy rundown bar, where depressed and disaffected sentient robots escape from their menial day jobs to risk it all in a thrilling game. Taking Microchips, that are either lethal or provide a low-level rush that robots can't source anywhere else, and pushing them into their universal brain ports. I would also enjoy adding a bit of the dissonance by making lots of the robot characters wacky and zany, with over exaggerated death scenes and hilarious pratfalls. The Game Although it would be fun to see if a player could survive a completely randomized game of Roulette all the way to the end, I would like to have some actual game in there. My initial concept is this This is very rough obviously, but the general layout is there. The object will be for the player to receive a chip that looks like the 2nd image and cycle or swap around the transition segments until the paths and colours match. As with infinite time these puzzles could be quite simple there will be added time pressure justified by the narrative, such as it being part of the rules of the game or perhaps as a representation of an internal processing of a potentially corrupt chip. I have several ideas for escalating these puzzles, as the narrative becomes more and more high stakes (either by cash, high or pressure to keep playing by intimidating figures), that can be honed and discussed if and when you decide to help me out. The main layout of the game will a first person perspective of a player sat a circular table looking out at his "opponents" as they simultaneously play the game in rounds. There will be lots of opportunity for humorous dialogue and witty banter across the table as their numbers dwindle. In my pipedream's I would like to build a small FPS intro, where the player is introduced to the concept by a buddy robot taking him to the game for the first time and possibly some context for our main characters reason for playing. Ideally, there will be multiple endings as you crumble under pressure and fail and puzzle and blow your main CPU, to avoid the fail state being too repetitive and annoying. The Plan This is my first 3D game, so my main priority is to create a functioning puzzle game first and foremost. While the narrative side is the part I'm most excited about, I would like to make sure I finish something that can be played and enjoyed. However, once we are well on the road to that goal the world is our oyster as far as expanding the narrative goes. Hilarious brain-death dream sequences, multiple death variations for the opposing robots, a branching story and the more wacky robot models the better. How you can help I'm completely new to Unity and Blender, so any help you can provide with either would be very much appreciated. I'm looking to have as many Characters as possible at the table, so if you are building a robot in your please let me use it here! Puzzle ideas, escalations, and templates would be accepted graciously. VOICES - This is the big one, I will have scripts for anyone who wants to voice act, the more and varied the voices the better, my main character currently has no gender and neither do any of the others, if you are or have an SO who is female I would very much appreciate their help in making my narrative more representative. My inspirations Thank you for reading, if you would like to help you can DM me on here or on Slacks or reach me by email at: [email protected]
  2. No, i think it would be more that their government wouldnt function properly, the laws they can change stopped them generating leaders.
  3. Hey guys, I'm late to the party but I'm working as quick as I can to make up time. Introducing Refined Baby, a sad tale of infant rejection and lack of decorum. Only had today to work on it but here are some of the initial character designs, here we have Baby and his relentless pursuers Trashcan Hobos.
  4. Fixed the AI empire having highly self-destructive ideas about AI legality The best

thanks guys, much appreciated, its not as ambitious as some of the others but, I tried to make up for that with the writing and actually finishing it my windows 10 pc is having a real problem with .exe files for some reason (I cant even run my own compiled game) so, im waiting til the stream to give everybody feedback.

also, word limit? word minimum? or will that be a diversifier? restrictions tend to breed creativity, without them we might end up with 1 or 2 essays and 15 stansas

You can use ur chancellor to Sow Dissent but ive never had much success causing rebellions like that. If you feel too small to take on ur local enemies you could try and spread your demense a bit further a field. Assassination is always a sure fire way to stir stuff up. If you can kill the emperor a succession war might break out. If you were still part of the HRE you could use the faction system to team up with other disgruntled vassals. Or just declare internal wars against your fellow vassals for their holdings.
  9. Or a really long and boring conundrum, taking 4 planets per war is pretty tedious. Also, has anyone successfully intergrated a vassal yet? I'm at 600 months to go but, the games performance has ground to a halt in the late game, it seems to buffer each 5 seconds of game play for about 1.5 seconds. So I cant rush through to see what happens
  10. Where the hell are the victory conditions? I actively cannot find them in the UI, I've just been playing to expand with no real direction or purpose.
  11. Many decades have passed and I have not. On a side note this destroyed me. I was like "I. . . I . . . . dont even know man. . . . your just weak and I. . . . . want your planets to do a stupid animal research. . . ."
  12. Outposts are a fine stop gap, in the later game i started using them to spread my borders over terraformable worlds and then dismantled them once i colonised them. The late games going ok so far, although this super cool sounding event pop up LITERALLY fizzled away and required no action which was crazy disappointing http://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=686714575

Thanks man, where is the best place on here to ask the odd question about Game Maker? Struggling to implement a few ideas.
  17. WIZARD JAM 2016 // Welcome Thread

Hello all, I'm super behind on podcasts so I only just heard about this now. I have never made a game before, but I have spent all of today watching Game Maker tutorials and I'm gonna give it a go. Didn't give myself much time buy ill try my best. I have chosen as my theme, Refined Baby, a baby game where you play as an uncouth infant desperately seeking to be more civilised. I will make a development thread when I have done some developing, in the mean time good luck have fun to all!

The game "tries" to do a "good job" of letting you know which of the claims you can press that will lead to you controlling the land. On the declare war menu, if the claim you are pressing has a green flag next to it that is good and means you will get it. If its blue that means you are unlikely to gain control of the holdings. These are usually female claimants that arent landowners. The best rule of thumb is to press the claims of your relatives, the ones with the "same dynasty" trait and your landed vassals. However you can "convert" blue claims into green by giving the claimant a titles in your realm, it doesnt matter how small, just make sure its a castle/barony.
  19. A nice little thing I noticed is that when you start sectoring up your empire, giving outposts to your sectors removes the influence maintenance penalty. Its a good tip to note when you start to need a lot more influence in the late game.

Yer, England is a bit tough, if I want a UK start I tend to like Ireland as you have a bit more time and space to expand and develop your laws and holdings. A great tip I got from friends and streamers is the Find Character menu you can find on the bottom right taskbar. It allows you to search anywhere from the world down to your own local court for characters with certain traits or conditions. This is especially useful for finding people in your kingdom with claims and finding new vassals. For example, if you win a Holy War against infidels, you receive ALL the holdings in your wargoal (including some you cannot hold and make use of like churches). This means you end up well over ur demense limit and have to give titles out to vassals, if you use the character search to find unlanded men who have the same CULTURE as you, you end up with vassals that will like you more and the chance to spread your culture will go up. You can also speead out the titles across more people making them less powerful elements of ur empire. It can seem small but its about a 15 point opinion swing between 'foreigner' and 'same culture', and thats just 1 example of what character search can do for you.

    You mean the Amazon Prime I just cancelled because I wasn't using it. . . . . . .
  23. The Weekly X Files Rewatch Thread

I just started watching this independently with the new series piling up on my DVR as I never watched it the first time round. I will make you all feel old by saying I was too young to have seen it the first time. Anyway, this show is pretty great. Its strange looking back at it with no nostalgia but, lots of experience with things that it inspired and seeing the giant television techtree that Xfiles is at the bottom of. Even down to subtle stuff like the way its shot and scripted as opposed to other contemporary shows I've watched. Its also ridiculous how big the gap in quality between the 2 films is, my word. Also, are there any good legitimate streaming sources for this? I picked up Seasons 1-6 dvds for cheap but, havent picked up the rest yet.
  24. THIS GAME THIS GAME I MAY NEVER PLAY ANOTHER ok, got all my excitement out, as a fan of CK2/EU4 who grew up on Next Gen this is my dream game. I've gone through the whole thread and the best analogue (in my opinion), Sins of a Solar Empire hasnt been mentioned yet. Its old but there are a lot of similarities, especially when i comes to the diplomacy and early "star grabbing". Just an thought it was interesting reference point for some of the interface complaints, especially regarding the galaxy map switching, I founds Sins endless mouse wheel scrolling just as tedious if not more than Stellaris' system. As for the pacing, I found after watching a few Arumba videos prerelease that I could pretty much 2x through the early scouting and slow resource build up. But once I hit the midgame theres just too much going on to play any faster than 1x. Thats all for now, a lots already being said, except for I had a super hilarious District 13 come about in one of my campaigns. I was playing as UN humans, with the Xenophile and Individualist traits. All through the game i made sure to avoid divergence, always picking the same traited colonists and what not, so my empire was happy and unified. My neighbors were all pretty stable and lots of room of their own to expand into so i didnt get into any wars for a really long time. I finally decide to start a war against a weaker empire i have pretty much surrounded and isolated. Long story short, I win the war with the set goal of ceding 3 planets. Then i check my governments policies. I cannot purge. I cannot enslave. I cannot forcibly resettle. The planets are all max tile max pop, all alien and have super low happiness. After a few months they form a seperatist faction, start sabotaging their own buildings and generally ruining their planet. I just have this miserable Alien population living in refugee camps next their toppled skyscrapers. And i cant do much to help them. Its just a hilarious representation of what would happen if a bunch of alien loving bureaucrats decided to go to war for financial reasons and didnt anticipate the consequences. Also thanks for this! Need to know that sòoooooo badly!
