  1. Idle thumbs London meet!

You are welcome. I'm here five more months. My students' hostel is near Shibuya. Bring a mat and sleeping bag or some such.
  2. Idle thumbs London meet!

This sounds like fun. When reading something like this I always wonder whether it would be strange to come to such an open forum-meeting as someone who has, like, only 124 posts (as an example), is basically a lurker. Said person reads what the other people say, so knows their internet-persona a little, but remains mostly quiet and thus unknown and everybody would be like 'Who is this person and why did he come?'. Mh? (Oh, if someone is passing by Tokyo in the next months, I'll be up for a drink and/or some silly japanese food. Really.)
  3. PCs and Consoles and Clouds... Oh My!

Hehe, yesterday I did exactly that – it just took me 20-30 hours longer (this time – I go trough this every two years or so). I loathe this game and it's accessibility and addictiveness.
  4. Idle Thumbs 48: In Space

    ha-ha *moves-slowly-backwards-to-the-exit*
  5. Obligatory comical YouTube thread

Yeah, it's like internet-crack. ' ' and ' ' from the same person are kind of good/deranged/plain stupid as well.
  6. Favorite Game, Best Game, Desert Island Game

'Hell is other people - on XBox-Live.' - some french faggot (Sorry) Favourite: Planescape Torment – Never got so attached to a game or its characters. Also some amazingly creative and good writing – and a big lot of good writing. Played it only once, because I am scared that another playthrough would diminish the ideal in my head. Best: World of Goo – A wonderful, perfectly executed and fun game. By basically two guys. Island: That's tough. Mmmmmh, does clicking on the random-wiki-article-button counts as 'game'? No? But it is, you can win and lose. Okay. Maybe Geometry Wars – just because I can see myself playing it forever – and getting crazier by the minute. The only game I experienced 'the flow' with. I quitted playing it several times, because after some intense sessions I started to see it, even though I wasn't playing it and/or had my eyes closed and/or slept.
  7. Idle Thumbs 48: In Space

Mh, sad news. Thanks for all the great casts. Good luck to all of you. [<- There is a 'tup', but nobody can see it. Now can you please make them work again, it's not funny anymore.]
  8. 'Pay what you want' model - 2DBoy sales data

Interesting example, as I would have paid more than the 3-4 bucks they wanted. I really liked the first one I got for free. Okay, there is paypal, but when I actually buy a game like this, it feel's somehow better.
  9. Do you think that comment makes the world any better? I guess not. Does it make you feel better. Hopefully, as there would be at least some gain for someone. It made me angry, so to you. (Irony? A joke? Well yes please, I am dumb. No? Oh, to bad.)Regarding the game: neat, but I fear I will never solve it. I'm bad at those games.
  10. Now just wait for their thread discussing our discussion of their discussion of our podcast. Oh you silly internet
  11. Recommendations for non-fantasy Western RPGs

Lord Korax might be right, Bloodlines isn't that well balanced, but even if it makes combat more troublesome, I think a character with maxed talky skills is the better choice for this game, because it rather shines in its dialog than combat. (I have to admit, I never finished the game, but I heard and experienced, that it just becomes uninteresting in its last quarter or something. The first three quarters I played twice and highly enjoyed. So maybe not being able to kill the end-boss isn't that much of a problem.) And I would second the recommendation for 'Planescape Torment'. It is fantasy, but not the Tolkin-kind. For me it has the most interesting and rich setting in a game thus far. And the 'deepest' writing. (Sorry for the superlative, but it is my favorite game.) Not dragons and elves but rather necro-noir steampunk.
  12. Recommendations for non-fantasy Western RPGs

Vampire Bloodlines is a great game. By the guys who did Arcanum. Even though it is about Vampires and their lore, I would consider the setting - present day USA - and the quests and the characters to be often more mature and real - or at least a little deep and interesting - than in a lot of other games. Some grim stuff there. (Just to be clear: As with all games I say this wearing my trusty game-goggles nonetheless.) For this game you can find some useful fan-updates as well. Thumbs up for Anachronox.
  13. Oh, I did, but they just gazed at me and then smiled and nodded. And then changed the subject. They don't play games.
  14. I really enjoyed both games, great stuff, and they somehow managed to make me buy and play adventure games again, which I like as well. (Wadjet Eye Games' games right know.) Thumbs up for you! How are the sales? Any idea about piracy-proportions? Again, just curious, hope you're doing well. And no-thanks for not answering my previous Steam-questions, suckers.
  15. Nifty browser games (inc. Flash)

There is even a way so you don't have to do the jumps at all.Great game, eerie and memorable music, cool idea – very much Ed McMillen, and that's a good thing. On some occasions I wasn't to sure what I was doing exactly, or what was going on with the story, and my little brain still managed to make me push dimension-jump instead of jump-jump (which often resulted in the integration of my character into a wall) up until the final level, but that didn't distract to much from its greatness.
  16. Brütal Legend overload...!

Fuckedy-fuck, I really don't want an Xbox360, I like my old'n'slow PC, narrows down choice, makes me play less in general, but more interesting indie stuff, and that is good for my money, my time and my mind (I tell myself). But you guys make it sound like I would totally love it, and I adore Tim Schafer's games, and it looks like so much fun. Damn, if there isn't a sign of a PC-Version in half a year I do have to buy an Xbox. Stupid Tim Schafer.
  17. I finished 'Ben There, Dan That!' just yesterday, and…what Thunder said. Great game, I really liked it. Thank you, Ben and Dan. That both games are on Steam now helped a lot in me actually buying and playing them. (Yeah, I'm a little Steam-whore.) Out of curiosity… - Was it hard to get your game on Steam? - How big is the share Valve gets for their Steam-services? (Okay, Wiki says something like '60% for the developers'.) - Do they differentiate between Indies and The Big Guys? Mh, most probably something you won't/can't talk about that freely… - Is there a 'Don't talk about it'-clause in the Steam-contract? Judging from the minutes I played the sequel, it looks prettier, but still as silly – perfect! And hurray regarding the Balloon-Headed Mexican.
  18. Idle Thumbs 39

The gay-senator-loop was brilliant. Thanks for the episode.
  19. Shadow Complex

Thanks for the link, Nevsky. Very good read.
  20. Movie/TV recommendations

Mh, District 9 - I thought the trailers were highly interesting so far, but in the new featurette involved people said things like 'and then his whole world gets flipped upside down', 'he realises that the life as he knew it is essentially over' and 'he quickly goes from being a nobody to being the most valuable person on the planet' about the main character (I guess) and all that sounded a bit mediocre.
  21. Left 4 Thumbs

Thanks for the tips. I'll try to internalize them to the point of automat-like perfection until next Sunday. On a side note: playing Versus as infected with strangers doesn't seem to be that much fun when you are not that good/giving the exact input needed to adjust the game variables in [your teams] favour. I got kicked out of nice games without even knowing what I did to offend the fuckers. A friend who plays a little more regularly suggested that there are people that get irritated when one doesn't vomit on all four survivors, or stands at that one good spot for an ambush. Fuckers.
  22. Brütal Legend overload...!

This made me expect to see Brütal Legend in the 'Games Discussed' of today's episode. In question-form: uhm, hu?
  23. Left 4 Thumbs

Yeah, that is one thing I won't do again. Hopefully. And I guess there are other triggers I don't know about. Oh well. And when everybody was like 'Nice, now we've got a tank', but I was the tank and I sucked very badly, and then the team went 'Meh, the new guy did suck very badly' - man, that was unpleasant. I hate being the tank, I just can't handle him well, all I do is I run around for some time and after a while I die. So, again, what is a good tank-tactic? Should I throw stuff? Try to kill? Down as much as possible?
  24. Left 4 Thumbs

Great first game for me. Uhm, not that I played great, but it was fun. So, who won (before I saw the final result I was back in the lobby)? Next time there will be at least some very stupid things I won't do (again).
  25. Left 4 Thumbs

If there is room, I'd like to join. (It's 10pm in Central European Time? Time zones confuse me.) How can I join? I am already in the Idle Thumbs group, if that helps.
