  1. Have you ever tried to make a game?

Oo... Klik and Play, I totally forgot that. It was quite fun.
  2. Psychonauts

The issue I had with the Meat Circus was the part where the water was rising and you had to do some serious platforming. I fell in the water 100+ times or something, really annoying. I don't recall the rest being that terrible.
  3. Have you ever tried to make a game?

I've been programming for over 20 years now (I think; 31 years old right now). During that time I have tried to make games on several occasions. Initially I messed around in Basic and DOS batch files on an IBM XT clone. After I picked up Delphi (Object Pascal) I tried to make games in that, but never really completed stuff. I spend more time on dissecting savegames and file formats of games. I have done some mod development in Duke 3D, although it was mostly level design. When UT'99 came out I really started to mess around more on the inside of games, and all the way through to UT3 I've been messing around in the UnrealEngine (also did some contract work). But most of my attention went out to non-game stuff for those games. Stuff like frameworks for others to build upon, or utilities. I did make a few minor gametypes and mutators for those MSUCs (usually created within a few days of part time programming). I once tried to kick off a UT2004 mod of my own, a "proper" mod. And that's more or less where I figured out that herding cats isn't something for me. So that mod died before it ever reached a playable state. I'm more an engine developer than a game developer.

  6. Psychonauts

Screw black velvet, give me more Milkman Conspiracy. No correction, I mean more Waterloo World.
  7. In the Q3A vs UT battle, UT gets my vote. Overall level design of UT was much better (although there are quite some shitty levels, specially for team based games). UT also had better weapon balance, or at least, different people could be equally powerful even though they specialized on different weapons. UT also had much variation out of the box, not just the number of game modes, but also the added twists that mutators gave. I mainly played InstaGib CTF. Q3A was quite simplistic compared to that. Made that's the thing, Q3A was more about simplicity (considering how the average Q3A player had their client configured), and UT was more about variation.
  8. Music of the games of video

I hear some similarities, but overall the claim is a bit farfetched.
  9. Music of the games of video

Lineair as in a fixed sequence of levels. But quite some levels are everything but lineair.

Murdoc started with the fucking up, the clop link is wrong and points to Q.U.B.E.
  11. Music of the games of video

This music is played in the second level of Unreal, right after you escape the crashed prison ship. It's one of my all time favorite parts of a video game ever. You just escape a dark and gloomy prison ship with death all over, and they you enter into the bright a peaceful world of Na Pali.

  14. V The Elder Scrolls

I think that's actually a strong point of Skyrim, that you're able to play and enjoy a game for 100+ hours even though nothing really stands out. The problem with stuff really standing out is that other parts of the game with be mediocre more quickly. I have the feeling a lot of people had completely different experiences while playing skyrim than I had. Even though you played the same thing for 100+ hours you experienced it quite differently. That's a huge in my book. I haven't picked up Dawnguard yet, some backlog needs finishing. But given the fact that it's tacked on to the main world which I've beaten to death does give me the fear that it will be a more directed experience. Then again, the very linear Fallout 3 DLC.
  15. Return of the Rise of the Triads

I like ROTT at lot, I spend a lot of time playing it. The game is quite brutal, not just in its violence, but also difficulty. It's all about the rediculous powerful weapons, which have limited ammo, and the huge rooms/hallways you have to traverse. That and the area being filled with traps and whatnot made it a fun game for me. There's a fair change I'll pick up this "sequel". But I doubt it will be a commercial success. A lot of youngsters will probably not like the ROTT gameplay. Then again, the trailer doesn't really show a lot of the gameplay I used to know from the original game. The firewall weapon simply isn't fun if it doesn't clean a huge room of bad guys. Speaking of Serious Sam 3, I still haven't finished that game. I assumed I would have reached the non-realism part by now, but I'm still there.
