  1. Garriott: "Most designers really just suck"

The same logic applies to any other profession/trade/whatever
  2. Garriott: "Most designers really just suck"

I think somebody forgot to turn the oxygen on when he went into space
  3. oh, shut up. This game is really tedious.
  4. Life

w.t.f. ... I never thought Canada was that backwards.
  5. Transistor

I'm really looking forward to this. I'm not sure about the style yet, and I really don't want to form any opinion yet. I really enjoyed playing bastion, and I can't imagine this futuristic bastion to be much different.
  6. Fresh Kickstarter Compendium Extraordinaire

    can't you simply front them?
  7. crap... I'm slipping again. I was already one behind, and then I went on a ski trip.

  10. Saints Row 4

You're entitled to your opinion. But you're wrong
  11. Saints Row 4

"Enter The Dominatrix" was planned to be a huge DLC (aiming for $30), but they decided to add more content and release it as a full game. But the deep silver PR blurp sounds weird: http://www.joystiq.com/2013/03/15/saints-row-4-release-date-august-20/
  12. Trackmania 2: Stadium

Does it use UPlay? Steam page doesn't mention in. The online part in the previous TM games wasn't mandatory, it worked without issues. Not being online just meant that online features didn't work. Eitherway, when I buy any Nadeo game at this point it means I'm sending money to Ubisoft. And I don't want to fund a company that has the idea that PC gamers cheating/pirating assholes who need to suffer as much as possible.
  13. Trackmania 2: Stadium

I'm 'elmuerte' in this new nadeo walled garden. I'm sure if I'm going to pick up any of the trackmania 2 games, I first have to decide if I'm ending my Ubisoft boycott. Does ubisoft still hate PC gaming?
  14. Fresh Kickstarter Compendium Extraordinaire

Well, own money shouldn't really be a factor in starting a kickstarter. But usually it is done by different kinds of people, people that do not have the opportunity to make the thing they want. And of course, there is also the person himself. What's next? Derek Smart starting a kickstarter?
  15. Saints Row 4

sold! I bought SR3 during a steam sale, and absolutely loved it, really looking forward to this one.
  16. Gilbert leaves Double Fine, which makes me grumpy...

I'm glad they fired him due to the poor sales result of The Cave.
  17. SimCity: The City Simulator

Still, it's a common problem in the software industry. Companies rarely want to pay for talent (it's more or less the "my nephew is good with computers; how hard can it be"). The Video game industry just makes it worse by stripping away any sense of job security. Although similar stuff also happens in the VFX industry. So yeah, talent will pursue careers in other directions were "shipping less that 3m units in 6 months" doesn't result in a studio closure.
  18. Feminist Frequency

It doesn't matter how right you are, if you only give attention to one side of the story people will see you as a nut and more or less start to ignore whatever message you wanted to convey. I don't like one-sided research, if you pass off judgement you better give the reader the complete picture. Anyway, plot wise the video games aren't much different from movies (and probably the average novel) when it comes to damsel in distress or other female related tropes. (that't not an excuse though).
  19. Feminist Frequency

I hope she also shows counter examples. It's not like game industry is all bad (right?), and also, it would make her sound one sided, and thereby more of a nut.
  20. SimCity: The City Simulator

I think you're giving the non-Video game software industry too much credit. There is a difference in how products are developed, as the non-video games industry usually keep upgrading its existing product. So the knowledge people gather over time is valuable. People in the video games industry can more easily be handled like construction workers, especially the people who are not required during the whole development cycle. Anyway, bad management is also present in the rest of the software industry. I think it's mostly caused by the fact that bad management does not understand the craft of software development. They think it's like building a house, or something else which is more or less the same thing every time. The places that do have good management the management often came from software development, and is usually still active.
  21. I've been thinking about this for quite some time, and my answer is: none of them. Seriously, every employee of Video game bosses is horribly killed, or worse, by the player.
