  1. I would've responded to this better if they had used that as the damn logo or something. If they had these ideas, why did they act like they came up with doing this Kickstarter the earlier the same day in response to their electricity bill?
  2. Far Cry 2

Agreed. It's this ridiculous silent bazooka. I've been using it since I'm replaying the game, but if I had that the first time around, it would have hurt the experience.
  3. Far Cry 2

Yeah, it could definitely be a DLC thing, since I didn't have it when I first played through the game.
  4. Far Cry 2

I had some more lovely times in Far Cry 2. I swear, even though I've finished this game once, that I had never seen this car type before: The gun on it was different, it fired slower and sounded like it had a larger caliber. I don't think it was better than the other one, though. The car seemed to shield me from damage pretty well. Unfortunately, it didn't take long for me to accidentally torch it.
  5. Resident Evil 6: President Evil

RE5 was rubbish, although likely fun if you like mowing down black Africans with gunfire.
  6. Well, that isn't exactly moving forward in any way...
  7. The Oregon Trail is just ludicrously successful as an educational game. It's one of the very few that are properly systemic like a game ought to be and it doesn't try to fill players' heads with boring data, which seems to be what many educators wish from educational games. Instead, it uses its relatively simple systems to teach a few core lessons about the danger and challenge involved in the process, the importance of planning etc. It's so successful that literally millions of people who've never played it (like me) have learned these lessons through its cultural significance. That bit of American history isn't part of our school curriculum, so I know a lot about it than I would otherwise simply through The Oregon Trail's existence. Unfortunately, at least the new version I saw a Giant Bomb Quick Look of has had all the interesting systems stripped out in favour of more "fun" gameplay, making it just a bad run of the mill game with subject matter that will not interest many kids. I've been studying theories of learning in connection with using games for education for a while now (for a very long time because my "method" of doing research is so haphazard), and it's ridiculous how little credit is given to The Oregon Trail. It's the most successful educational game, kids who've played it actually have good memories of it and it's sold something like 70 million copies altogether, but practically no-one seems to be interested in studying and replicating why it works.
  8. Hah, that 3MA podcast a few episodes back mentioned that research by some people discovered that unboxing is actually the most exciting part about playing a board game
  9. Beneath a Steel Sky II

    Video games.
  10. Far Cry 2

My Far Cry 2 terrorism continues! I suppose some people criticized the 'drab' graphics, but it's how grounded they are that pulls me into the game world.
  11. Borderlands 2

I played a few hours of this with my brother yesterday and it was a good time. The shooty mechanics aren't really up to par compared to pure shooters, but a decent co-op experience trumps that.
  12. I need to read Sean's drunken speech like right now! Oooh, actually, you should actually read it on the podcast after GDC like you were actually delivering it.
  13. Beneath a Steel Sky II

I just feel like they've lost their touch. The new version of BASS replaced the great iconic music that plays during the intro with a bland copy. They ruined the logo as well. The BS1 director's cut also completely ruins the literally explosive beginning of the game by adding a whole slow paced new segment before it. I didn't back the BS5 Kickstarter because I don't trust that Cecil can make games as good as that anymore.
  14. Far Cry 2

Thread resurrection! This should be pinned anyway. So I've been playing this again. Man, this game. Having played it through on the PS3 first, playing it now on a PC at Full HD resolution and very high settings makes a huge difference. This is my benchmark for whether an FPS interests me or not. I stopped playing Black Mesa after the test because going down a corridor just didn't pull me. I love HL2, but the greatest bits are the ones that feel like Far Cry 2.

  16. Half-Life 3

I think Tundra's point is that by the end of Ep2, Gordon has been awake four days on the power of adrenaline.
  17. Half-Life 3

    Clint Hocking is at Valve?
  18. Half-Life 3

I just played some Far Cry 2 today. Goddamn I hope they can capture even some of that magic for the sequel, which seems very weird... But I don't know how open world could work for Half-Life, because Valve likes to be in complete control of pacing. That's not really possible with open world games.
  19. Life

    I mostly don't. However: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VShmtsLhkQg
  20. «Kickstarter is not a store»

Don't do it, you'll lose our respect for you

Bright regular bulbs are illegal now so you either have to get by without light or make an actual choice on what kind to use We mostly use reindeer noses.
  22. Broken Age - Double Fine Adventure!

I loved Chris's two second cameo.
