  1. Again, I would totally volunteer if I only had a couple of square feet, preferably cushioned in some manner, on which to sleep. I totally understand the lack of eager offers, though, it's not like I'd be thrilled to have people I haven't even seen taking up space
  2. Syndicate revivial

Isn't the whole game basically about terrorism? Starbreeze is a pretty great studio, and Syndicate was an awesome game. Could be great. I still get the basslines from the game's music stuck on my head occasionally...
  3. There is no "uncanny valley" for sound...

Yes, for the love of all things holy, I hope this is something that will get better ASAP. I've been playing around with the idea of doing some analysis of, say, Mass Effect, and trying to see where it fails to produce natural sounding dialogue and why. I think a lot of it stems from the fact that we are still basically having someone read aloud passages that were never written with that in mind. RPG dialogue is still pretty much what it was when Baldur's Gate or Planescape: Torment came out, and even though Torment has perhaps the greatest dialogue to be found in games, reading that aloud will not sound like conversation.
  4. Send us questions!

Having done a bit of transcription (which is an immense pain in the ass), I can say that stereo sound helps immensely. If you place different speakers in different "places", it's a lot easier to understand what's being said and who is saying it. That said, the sound quality was pretty good already and stereo will make the file bigger.
  5. Someone point me to a couch I can crash on and I'll come. I'm a totally nice guy and a good guest! Also, I travel with bottles of expensive whisky.
  6. Sid Meier

Holy shit they are making a new Colonization. It will be cool.
  7. Where is everyone?

I am now residing in Glasgow. 'Tis a silly place. I mostly feel stupid all the time. Don't know how anything works, how to get the internet working, which gas company to call, how to not be scared about fucking GAS, where to find proper tea that's not in bags, where to find coffee filters, etc. etc. The people are great, though, very hospitable and warm. Also, the weather is great I'm serious.
  8. Lame

If you start Idle Thumbs Games I will buy two copies of whatever you publish, no matter how rubbish. Lay-offs are immensely sucky
  9. Movie/TV recommendations

Hee, that's pretty cool considering I'll be in the UK in 2 days and I love movies like that. I'll go see it!
  10. Where is everyone?

I'm taking a plane to Scotland on Wednesday! And I'll be staying in Glasgow until May... I just had a really nice going away party where I got a lot of really sweet (as in cute) stuff I really hadn't expected. A lot of fun. Also marks the end of a short but sweet relationship I'm pretty teary-eyed right now. I guess tomorrow's shower will be of the crying sort.
  11. Well, yeah, no uncanny valley since it just looks animated. EDIT: Regarding Norfolk's link, that's soo far ahead of any Heavy Rain footage we've seen... Though I guess it's prerendered.
  12. Games with musical numbers

    Oh, man, Rusty Anchor. Nostalgiaaa.
  13. $t34md!

I don't know how a strong password could help against a keylogger. They're good for stopping people guessing the password or brute forcing their way through, but a keylogger will just log the keystrokes and send them on.
  14. How are you guys? ...we're fine.

Received Pronounciation is good for a couple of reasons: * It's a 'fake' accent for everyone (received!) because people don't generally grow up speaking it * It's very clearly defined, unlike pretty much all accents However, even if you master it you'll just end up sounding like some Oxford asshole like me though. It's pretty much the most boring English accent out there, except maybe a Mid-Atlantic accent.
  15. Movie/TV recommendations

Well, apparently the screenplay has been adapted by some dude whose done almost nothing and the guy who is Solid Snake's voice actor... so we'll see how that goes
  16. You might be on to something!
  17. Movie/TV recommendations

Well, that can be debated. I'd describe the V movie as... clunky. But I like it. However, it's not a completely satisfying adaptation or a masterpiece of cinema.
  18. Movie/TV recommendations

Sure, the visuals are great and so is the trailer. 300 had a great trailer too, but any part of that movie where people talked sucked (people also yelled a lot, those parts were good). We'll see how this turns out, but I never felt Watchmen was about the visuals, but the drama, and the director doesn't seem to be up to par in that respect.
  19. Dr. Horrible!

The ending was just great. The last shot especially...
  20. The official 'Welcome N0wak to London' thread

I'll do that if they're still going when I get to Edinburgh.
  21. The official 'Welcome N0wak to London' thread

There aren't any Thumbers up in Glasgow, are there? Well, that's where I'll be for nine months starting from September. I will be taking a trip to that general area at some point (I have relatives in Hastings), and would love to down a pint or several with fellow Thumbers. But that's months from now.
  22. Dr. Horrible!

    That was magic.
  23. Annoying flash game...

    Fucker.
  24. Hey, haven't you plugged this game over at Adventure Gamers? What's up with that? Huh? EDIT: Maybe I'm too much of a fucking atheist or something, but I can't do the church puzzle! Can't find any logical sequence for the passages. Ack, how about a puzzle where you insert a round peg into a round hole? I could do that.
  25. Had to be done. Things were getting out of control. Oo, you got the guy who did the totally fantastic music for Gibbage to do totally fantastic music for this! I just wish there was more ambient music, it's pretty quiet most of the time. And the cartoony Gibbagey graphics are back too, yay! The game has been really funny so far, but I'm not too far yet. I'll report more later.
