I would note that being drunk generally doesn't help you enjoy things that have a lot of detail or require a bit of thought. I could see a few beers might not hurt Doom 3, but in Half-Life 2 the richness of the world comes through little touches you might miss even if you're sober but not focused enough. I would refuse to watch Transformers sober, but I wouldn't mix Tarkovsky's Solaris with alcohol. That would be terrible.

Obviously I can't give any real answers, but what is clear is that games are the only way to tell a story through active participation and that is the strength of the medium. So compare Heart of Darkness, Apocalypse.Now and Far Cry 2. They each at least try to communicate more or less the same thing, but through different media. For Far Cry 2, the desolation and brutality of that world and the hypocrisy of everyone involved is communicated through a story made up of individual player actions.

Downloads are nice and quick for me. Everyday shooter seems pretty good!

I'll just use an example to illustrate my view: If someone comes to you and asks if you could help them move on the 19th, you're not going say "Oh, the 19th of which year and which month? I don't want to mark it on the wrong decade." No, what you're going to say is, "Uhh, sorry, I've got a prior engagement." Because moving is a bitch.

Hmh, I think Verhoeven is pretty misunderstood as a director. If anything, Robocop and Starship Troopers are anti-corporate and anti-fascistic respectively, but Verhoeven doesn't force his point like people would expect from action movies.

Playing RE5 after RE4 Wii was pretty shite. Ugh, sticks.
