  1. Games with interesting economic systems

I'm not sure if this is strictly what the OP was looking for, but Sacrifice had a weird, interesting and super stressful "economic" system. You control a wizard (yeah!) that performs missions for five gods. In the battlefield, your goal is to desecrate the other wizard's altar while defending your own. You summon creatures to aid you by spending souls. When a creature is destroyed its soul (or souls) are left floating by its corpse for you, or the enemy, to collect. You can collect friendly souls just by getting close enough, but in order to steal souls from fallen enemies you first have to convert them. This is done by ordering Sac doctors to extract the souls and transport them to your altar for the ritual. Sac doctors themselves are of course also vulnerable to enemy attacks. Fighting the enemy wizard and his troops, protecting your buildings, taking care of your souls and stealing from the other wizards soul pool - all done in third person view, controlling the wizard directly - became so hectic and stressful after a few missions that I just couldn't finish the game. Still, Sacrifice is one of the most interesting games I have ever played and I'm hoping that there will be a sequel or remake at some point. I'm just not sure if I would play it personally.. Edit: Sacrifice is on GOG. Idle Thumbs should stream this game.
  2. The Witcher 2

Yeah. The save/load system breaks if you have too many save files. I deleted them within the game just to be sure.
  3. Gone Home from The Fullbright Company

Haha! That has to happen! https://dl.dropboxusercontent.com/u/20570/gh_ost.png
  4. Has anyone tried this? http://www.rockpapershotgun.com/2013/06/20/witcher-2-combat-mod/
  5. Sean, I preferred playing Witcher 2 with keyboard and mouse. Just memorize the hotkeys for Igni and Quen and you'll do fine. Also, the tutorial is a bit crap. Also, I lost it completely when it turned out that Sean was objecting to the use of pillow to kill the baby and not infanticide in general.
  6. That time Gabe Newell hacked my computer

I can't hide my Half-Life: Origins anymore. I'm Gabe Newell.

  8. I usually try to avoid story spoilers, but for Mew-Genics I will extend that to gameplay as well. Lovely teaser.
  9. Saints Row 4

Couple of hours in. This game is super dumb and super fun! I couldn't get into Saints Row the Third* at all, but this is great. * I got the game practically for free, and had serious problems committing to it.
  10. Do they use the Hobbes' Scale of Savagery, Barbarism and Civilization ?
  11. Games giveaway

I seem to have come into a possession of a spare Crusader Kings II key. PM me if you want to play this epic game. (Note, if you go through the trouble of registering here just to get key, you are not going to get the key.)
  12. Gone Home from The Fullbright Company

I thought that was a Nick Cave and the Bad Seeds reference. Edit: Oh, nevermind.
  13. The Witcher 3: What Geralt Wants

I'm really excited about this! The Witcher 2 is the only RPG that I have completed twice, first time on release and again this year. The extent of support from developers is pretty impressive.
  14. Gone Home from The Fullbright Company

Setting the resolution to 1024x768, using the lowest graphics settings, and disabling vsync helps a lot already, but I was wondering if there is a way to replace the textures of all the objects that you can interact with with plain red or something. Has anyone tried this already?
  15. Gone Home from The Fullbright Company

I'm unable to play things like Amnesia and Slender, because I'm a big baby when it comes to horror games. Still, I decided to give Gone Home a go despite it being a notorious ghost game. I'm so glad I did. What a great experience. Congrats Steve et al.! You can be proud! This game is worth $20 for alone. Also, the lights around the attic hatch were a masterful touch. Furthermore:
  16. Life

A colleague of mine realized that he had a big bottle of shampoo in his backpack, but decided to try and get it through the security check in Heathrow anyway. When they started to examine his backpack, I joked that maybe he should run already. Unfortunately, I said this in English and quite loud. The security guys' heads turned towards me immediately. Fortunately, they didn't tase me or anything. So yeah, don't yell "RUN!" at the airport either.
  17. Upcoming books you want to read

Good to hear! I think I will go with something lighter (both physically and mentally) once I'm done with Infinite Jest, but I definitely want to read Gravity's Rainbow at some point.
  18. Also, maybe sub-scores for story, graphics and replayability.
  19. Upcoming books you want to read

I rarely follow upcoming or recently released books. My to-read list is enormous already and I prefer to wait for the hype dust to settle before I make my decision. That said, I'm really looking forward to Thomas Pynchon's Bleeding Edge. The rather embarrassing reason for this is that, while I enjoyed both The Crying of Lot 49 and Inherent Vice a lot, I'm still intimidated by his 1000 page monsters. I'm about halfway through Infinite Jest, though, so maybe one day I will find the courage to tackle Gravity's Rainbow.
  20. Crusader K+ngs II

I just conquered the entire Norway by claiming it for my 9-year old daughter and then murdering her once the war was over. Now I'm proud and extremely ashamed at the same time. This game should give you achievements for all the weird shit you do. Also, I hadn't realized the "Press All Claims" button before. That would certainly have made things easier for me with Scotland and England.
  21. Meanwhile, in a parallel universe: I let our son in my court and eventually made him a vassal. Dub-Dil might be one of the most influential women in Ireland right now. I hope I'm informed when she dies. EDIT: I think will actually load a save and try to make him my heir.
  22. Papers, Please

I reached day 26 and got quite an annoying ending: I like this depressing game, though.
  23. Gone Home from The Fullbright Company

Lazy noir exorcism confirmed. Why can't I preorder this game already?
  24. Yeah. The marketing on these games is super weird. Good episode, cool guest! I hope she will come back again soon.
