  1. Album of the Year, '13

Mine too. Hadn't noticed the video before. Nice performance! (this is not the album version) Makes me regret missing Nick Cave and the Bad Seeds live earlier this year even more.
  2. Feminism

    Oh for fuck's sake..
  3. Cool, Samorost 3! Is Tomáš Dvořák involved with the soundtrack? Edit: To answer my own question, yes!
  4. Broken Age - Double Fine Adventure!

I would second not starting with Grim Fandango. Day of the Tentacle and Full Throttle are both great. I would personally recommend The Curse of Monkey Island (MI3), if it wasn't so hard to obtain at the moment. Even though the puzzles in Machinarium were a bit too "traditional" for my taste, the game is worth checking out for the art style and one of the best soundtracks of all time alone (I mean just look and listen to ). I wouldn't personally recommend starting with The Last Express since the game mechanics (namely the way in which the game handles time) are so nontraditional. Definitely worth checking out at some point, though.
  5. The threat of Big Dog

Someone please hook two of those phone robots together and record the conversation. Edit: http://discovermagazine.com/2007/brain/i-chat-therefore-i-am#.UqnuffRr6gI
  6. It's beginning to look a lot like...

I find that highly inappropriate. SpeedyDesiato wouldn't have laughed in times like this.
  7. I'm definitely going to pre-order the next installment in the Gone Home franchise, even if they developers only update the graphics and add a couple of new ghost types and recording mediums. My only wish is that they call it Gone Home: Origins. Seriously though, I'm eager to hear what Steve and Fullbright are up to next.
  8. It's beginning to look a lot like...

Someone had to do it. Again.
  9. Album of the Year, '13

I forgot the one Finnish album to interest me this year, a collaboration between a jazz group and three of the least annoying Finnish rappers (my opinion, obv): Since it's in Finnish and is probably going to sound hilarious to you, here is some jazz without the lyrics:

I actually appreciate the sudden positivity since so many of the Eels songs are incredibly depressing (no wonder seeing Mark Everett's background). Don't worry, though, the rest of the album is not as cheerful.

Queens of the Stone Age ...Like Clockwork http://youtu.be/t5GiG7SqcAo Also, some new acquaintances such as DARKSIDE with Psychic

New albums from many of my favorite bands this year: Nick Cave and the Bad Seeds Push the Sky Away Eels Wonderful, Glorious (Alternative take on the album: )
  13. Idle Explorers (Spelunky, um, thumbs)

Yup. Most of the enemies and traps can be overcame the first time you come across them, while a few (like the arrow trap and the mario block) may cause an unexpected death on the first encounter. Once you are familiar with the limited number of systems, items, enemies and traps (and this doesn't take too long), defeating Olmec or Yama should be fairly simple. Except it isn't, because you suck. And that is awesome.
  14. GOTY.cx 2013

Can you even run in Gone Home? Anyway, congrats on GGOTY Steve and the rest of the Fullbright Company!
  15. GOTY.cx 2013

I hope someone makes a compilation video of all the awkward banter between Joel and Geoff. It was hilarious, although I wouldn't have liked to be either one of them yesterday.
  16. GOTY.cx 2013

Yeah... I have watched 10 minutes here and there, and I don't understand this shit at all. For example, is Joel McHale being himself, Jeff Winger, or just making fun of the whole show? Also, what was Steve's Tweet about?
  17. GOTY.cx 2013

I was sort of expecting that to be a joke...
  18. Idle Explorers (Spelunky, um, thumbs)

Thanks! I was trying to land on top of that Tiki trap without using the jetpack to avoid being hit by both the scorpion and the Mario block. Instead, I got hit by practically everything in that general area. The amazing thing about Spelunky is that it practically never really frustrates me. I didn't feel bad about that death, for example, even though I was so close to reaching Olmec for the first time today.
  19. Idle Explorers (Spelunky, um, thumbs)

My best run so far in terms of length and points: Definitely not my best run in terms of early game performance, though. I spend a full minute or so trying to detonate an explosive grate with a rock (only to give up), killed a damsel with a mattock, and used up all my bomb (and the mattock) before the black market. Random observations: I hate the bats. The only way I'm able to kill them without a risk of taking damage is to hide in a tunnel and wait for them to come at me at eye-level. I am also afraid of a ghost. The main reason I'm posting this is that I'm really pleased about the way I died.
  20. Assassin's Creed: Buccaneer

http://www.polygon.com/2013/12/6/5183496/ubisoft-survey-future-of-assassins-creed-separate-pirate-spinoff If I could be arsed to actually answer these sort of surveys, I'd give a huge "YES" to a non-Assassin's Creed pirate game. Like many others, I find the actual AC stuff to be the weakest part of the game and the Assassins vs. Templars storyline feels more forced than ever. To the point where, after spending considerable amount of time trying to obtain medicine for the people of your island, someone in the future sequences says something like "We need to focus on The Observatory more." So I guess I will be chasing some supernatural bullshit for the rest of the game, instead of doing epic pirate stuff.
  21. GOTY.cx 2013

How about the previous three Batmen? I will pick my GOTY once I have sampled Super Mario 3D World and (some more of) Wind Waker HD .
  22. I haven't listened to the cast yet, but I'm curious about your definition of colonialism. For example, you seem to be saying that South Africa is (has it) way better than the neighboring countries, majority of which were colonized at some point, because of colonialism? What is the distinction here?
  23. Your Favourite Book This Year (2013)

...with Charlie Kaufman as the screenwriter. I really hope they will go through with that.
  24. Idle Thumbs 134: Sports

The exams where I was not allowed to use calculators didn't have numerical values either.
