  2. No Man's Sky

Most of this sounds pretty good (especially that time waster part)! Can't wait to get some space trucking done. Gotta queue up some David Bowie, Pharaoh Overlord, and 35007 for Saturday.
  3. It's crazy how many of my absolute favorite game worlds are from adventure games, specifically Lucasarts Adventure games: Grim Fandango, Monkey Islands 1-3 (The Curse of Monkey Island being my favorite world-wise), Sam and Max Hit the Road (I liked the world of the game more than that of the comics), with honorable mention to Day of the Tentacle. I also loved the worlds of Psychonauts and The Last Express, and I spent so much of my time in my childhood with The Link to the Past and Final Fantasy 7 that I couldn't help but grow to love them. The world of original Mafia will always have a special place in my heart. It was the first time I actually felt sort of transported to different time and place. I think this was thanks in large part to some of the design decision many players absolutely detested: The ultra slow regular guy start, the even slower, shitty cars, the even shittier guns, the fact that you had to obey speed limits and traffic lights or risk getting fined. Just thinking about the ridiculously slow ride up Oak Hill, with Django Reinhardt barely emanating from my speakers, to burglarize a villa, makes me smile to this day.
  4. Quadrilateral Cowboy: Dad Baud

I finally finished the game. I love love love the atmosphere and storytelling in Blendo games. The three main characters were absolutely fascinating. I liked the gameplay a lot too. My only minor issue was that having to deploy and adjust the aimbot etc. after each failed attempt got a bit tedious after a while. On the other hand, adjusting angles using console commands can also be surprisingly satisfying.

I'm suspicious of this alleged 100% internalization. (Please stream RimWorld).

I had two colonist catch the plague at a point when I had absolutely no medicine. I was almost certain that they would die, but both became immune to it before that on bedrest alone. I was surprised that immunity didn't mean that they were still in danger of spreading it to other colonists.
  7. Episode 365: Rimworld

Really interesting discussion! I have been intrigued by Dwarf Fortress for a long time, but there is no way I'm ever going to dive into that. Rimworld seemed like a perfect "compromise" for me, and it is indeed pretty amazing. I love the heavy focus on social stuff in this game. I played my only game (so far) on Phoebe Chillax Basebuilder and the first colonist to die was killed because she insulted one of my other colonists, who then beat her to death. The lover of the dead colonist was miserable throughout the rest of the game, and absolutely detested the other colonist, Jeff Goldblum. On top of that, Goldblum's wife started an affair with a colonist called Slick (Slick, by the way, was an absolute dick. He was constantly jealous about other colonists, and I had to make sure he had one more colored lamp in his bedroom than any other character). On top of that still, Mrs Goldblum's ex-husband joined my colony. So, I found myself in the situation where I had to pray that a guy with serious anger management problems doesn't do anything to further piss off the man whose lover he killed, doesn't become jealous about the ex-husband of his wife, and doesn't realize he is being cuckolded. It felt like my colony had a ticking time bomb with three timers I could do nothing about*. I also learned the hard way to pay attention to individual colonists state of mind before giving them order. I had one very handy colonist that was good at smithing, tailoring, and crafting. I was constructing my ship and desperately needed both components and steel, and so I manually prioritized him to craft components and smelt steel. After a couple of days he went crazy. Luckily he didn't go berserk, and just stripped down and started running around the base until he collapsed. I checked his needs, and of course this was the colonist whose lover had been killed. Manual prioritization also seems to override eating. So basically I had forced a grieving colonist to smelt steel for several days in a row without letting him eat. Miraculously, I managed to escape the planet with only one casualty in total. Oh and yes, the artwork system is absolutely amazing! You should definitely read the descriptions of the sculptures and sarcophagi once they are completed. * In hindsight, I guess I could have sent the time bomb to a hunting expedition with the shittiest weapon I could find, and then harvest his organs when he inevitably failed to kill all the boomrats.

  10. I really hope Sony will make every effort to stretch the console life-cycles so that PS9 is actually released no sooner than 2078. They have done horrible job so far.

    Haha.. Jesus.
  12. After hearing the whacky shit that is going on in Nick's colony, I'm starting to think that maybe he too should stream RimWorld.
  13. Yeah, that was really well executed.
  14. Idle Thumbs Streams

That's a tough choice. I could use a break from watching Dark Souls streams. Factorio seems like a "let the chat teach me how to play" game similar to Crusader Kings II and RimWorld but with less potential for hilarious, fucked-up situations (I haven't played it though so I might be wrong). RimWorld is great, but it is already hard to keep up with Chris' streams. Far Cry 2 speedruns is such a ridiculous idea that it might even work. As for other suggestions, I don't know. I was excited about the prospect of Stellaris streams, but having played it, I'm not so sure anymore. The game moves pretty slow and is less eventful than Crusader Kings II. So, I'd actually prefer you going back to Crusader Kings II. If you are willing to go to the other side, I would definitely be interested in watching someone try to parse Dwarf Fortress... sorry... Slaves to Armok: God of Blood Chapter II: Dwarf Fortress.
  15. Did anyone play Hacknet? I quite enjoyed the retro feeling I got from typing commands like "ps" and "kill [PID]", until I encountered a game breaking bug that did not let me continue with the story.
  16. Brilliant idea! I don't think I have time to join, but I can't wait to hear your stories.
  17. Rimworld

Defenses update: I only encountered one set of knife-wielding raiders and a two crashlanded mechanoids so I couldn't test whether explosive carrying enemies would prefer my turreted doors or the two tile wide walls. Those mechanoids were no joke, but luckily they did not appear in my immediate vicinity, and I was able to mortar barrage them before my actual assault. I managed to build the spaceship and escape with all nine of my colonists, with only one colonist dying during the game (thanks Jeff Goldblum). I think Chris' streams and especially the chat comments had taught me enough about the game that I could have chosen a harder storyteller/difficulty. Still, there were enough rough times to keep me on my toes during the whole session. By the way, I was only able to sell two of my sculptures early on. After that none of my sculptures showed up in the trade window, despite being uninstalled in my storage zone. Are sculptures only rarely accepted by random, or is there some sort of crappy art market saturation mechanic in the game? Here's what my base ended up looking like. It's not pretty but got the job done.
  18. https://clips.twitch.tv/idlethumbs/ShyCaterpillarWinWaker The dance button and the ability to upgrade your grey matter (cause one day it may matter), made me so happy. Downloading it now.

  20. Rimworld

Having watched hours of Chris playing the game, I decided to finally try it myself. Damn this game is good. I went with Phoebe Chillax Basebuilder, as I don't enjoy the combat aspect too much but still wanted some interesting events. Everything was going more or less fine until I ran out of medicine (no traders for a long time and no skilled grower) and Jeff Goldblum and Emily Blunt both got the plague. Somehow they both managed to survive this thanks to Mrs Goldblum. Then shortly after, Emily Blunt insulted Jeff Goldblum who beat her to death. At the same time, my cat went berserk and started attacking my colonists, and so I decided to kill it with the help of my pet deer. Alistair, the lover of Emily Blunt, was forced to bury her and the cat, which must have upset him quite a bit, seeing that he proceeded to vomit all over my base when the job was done. One day, a traveling artist came to visit me, and I was eagerly waiting to show him the cubist sculpture depicting Jeff Goldblum capturing Emily Kemp "with obvious pleasure". Unfortunately the visit coincided with a boomrat infestation, and of course, the artist died in an explosion that eventually burned down half of the forest area in the map. After that everything was more or less eventful for quite some time, apart from a couple of raids that my autoturrets were able to handle quite nicely. The social side of my colony is quite troubling, though. Mrs Goldblum is having an affair with Slick. In addition, her ex-husband recently joined the colony. Seeing how violent Jeff Goldblum can get when insulted, I hope he does not find about any of this. Here is my base setup: Both entrances have a bunch of autoturrets before the automatic door and some sandbags and autoturrets after it. I assume that the enemies will still target the door due to the two block thick walls. Is this how it works? I am also researching mortars at the moment, so maybe I can use those to destroy any enemies that try to breach the walls.
  21. Idle Thumbs Streams

The storyteller for the first one was Phoebe Chillax and after that Cassandra Classic. The difficulty might have been basebuilder on all cases, but I'm not entirely sure.
  22. Idle Thumbs Streams

Don't feel too bad. You are doing a good job, despite the difficulty of juggling between the tasks! Also, seeing the chat lose their shit over something that you have done (or something that you have not yet noticed), adds to the hilarity of the streams. The last couple of streams have been quite rough. I hope you still have the energy to go back to RimWorld despite the shitty combat experiences. Love the stream, and I'm hoping to catch more of them live (they usually end one or two hours before I wake up).
