[Released] A Thousand Dormant Machines
Nappi replied to brendonsmall's topic in Wizard Jam 8 Archives
Hahaha! I love that effect! -
Today, I focused on the most essential part of any game: the title screen. I also started experimenting with different color schemes. I think I will utilize negative space a lot in this game. Oh and I also tweaked the title a bit.

Thanks! I suffered from a slight lack of inspiration and motivation prior to the jam, but now that things seem to work okay, I'm pretty excited to keep on going. The gameplay may be a bit barebones, but hopefully the game will at least serve as a relaxing visual thing. Mythalore: Fiddling with the visual style and colors is definitely one of my favorite things in these projects, so I'm really happy to hear that it comes across.

This sounds cool and ambitious. for the use of Legos in prototyping. -

This is a great idea! I don't own an Echo device but I'm looking forward to the gameplay videos where people just film their creepy cylinder. -
[Released] The Convergence Compulsion

That effect looks really nice! The intricacies of the particle system have always been a mystery to me, so it's cool to see someone making them the central part of the game. -
I'm happy that you have a chance to return to this game!

Really neat idea and the gameplay seems nice and "tactile"! Oh god... that camera shift...
-
Love the art! And watching the paint process is really fascinating.

I made some progress, and I feel like this might yet turn into some sort of a game. I added camera rotation and zooming, and an invisible repulsor that moves on the surface of the (again invisible) planet. It might not be immediately clear from the video, but I'm looking for the repulsor and clicking on it to explode the scene. I hate what Youtube does to the video. It actually looks pretty crisp and runs quite smoothly.

Modest Tech: The NX Generation (Nintendo Switch)
Nappi replied to dartmonkey's topic in Video Gaming
I have never played a Smash game but decided to get Ultimate because it seemed fun. So far, I have been having great time with it despite only playing it single player. The sheer amount of content is pretty overwhelming, though! I think the World of Light is a nice way to experience the game in single player. As always, it feels good to constantly unlock new stuff, and thus far none of the challenges have been overly frustrating (although, I am playing on normal and skipping the battles where the enemy rating is way higher than mine), and I appreciate that it lets me change the difficulty on the fly, in case things get too difficult. Having never played any of the previous games before, the controls are definitely weird. For example, it took me a ridiculously long time to get used to the jump buttons, and I only realized after a few hours of playtime that tilt attacks and smash attacks are separate things. Next thing I need to work on is recovering from falls. When I'm thrown over the edge (and especially below the floor level) I tend to smash the jump button in panic wasting my double jump, and I definitely never remember to use my up special in these situations. After this, I will work on consistently pulling of tilt and smash attacks as well as actually using shield and grab. Despite being overwhelmed with the controls, I'm already having a really fun time with the game. I'm not aiming at becoming a great player, just good enough that I can semi-consistently do what I want to. I feel like this is the key to actually enjoying some of the more technical characters, because right now I feel ridiculously clumsy with some of them. I got to say that while unlocking new characters feels super nice, failing to beat a new challenger a couple of times in a row in a tight match and having to wait for the challenger rematch door to open again can feel pretty damn brutal. (Also, if any mods visit this place, maybe these posts can be moved to a separate Smash thread?) -

Video in question: Looking forward to playing Katamari Damacy for the first time. -
The presentation of the gameplay demo was a bit but I still found a lot to like about the game. I like the visuals a lot and the city feels adequately dense. I hope they manage to maintain the quintessential cyberpunk dread that comes from knowing that there are entities out there that are way too advanced in terms of tech and other resources that you can't possibly fuck with them in a conventional way. My fear is that it all falls apart once you do a few too many side missions and become a classic RPG demigod. I'm looking forward to all the weird shit the body augmentations can offer. Seeing yourself through your recently-purchased eye while it was being installed was pretty cool already. However, I feel that stuff like this would be more effective if they didn't cut to third person in the cutscenes.

I enjoyed Fallout a lot! With all the globetrotting and extravagant action of the latest movies, Mission Impossible has started to feel like James Bond that isn't written by a super horny and often gross teenage boy, which I'm on board with. I think the cast was stellar, with a possible exception of Henry Cavill, who was okay in Man from the U.N.C.L.E., but simply felt flat and boring here, especially alongside the other actors. Some of that might have been the script's fault, of course. On the other hand, I liked Ilsa's character and Rebecca Ferguson's portrayal of her a lot, and I'm happy that Simon Pegg is basically an action guy by now. I agree with Roderick about White Widow, and was a bit bummed about Apart from the first one and Rogue Nation, I haven't watched the MI movies recently, so I won't attempt to rank them. I remember practically nothing about 2 and 3.

Itch.io page: https://ktomi.itch.io/hax-processer As a häx processer, your task is to process häxes using our state-of-the-art, in-house Häx Processor. It is a tough job, but it needs to be done. Your mother was one of the best in the business. Make her proud. Welcome to the family. Concept Move, rotate and zoom one or more geometric shapes to reveal häxes. The häxes can be hexagons, hexagrams, and various symbols of the hex, such as pentagrams. You need to overlap the shapes with the target pattern to proceed to the next häx. You manipulate the shapes using text commands. In the early stages, you solve the puzzles using basic operations on individual objects, but things get more complicated later on. For example, you may have to rotate the shapes in 3D or deal with interconnected and mirrored shapes that respond to the same commands. Style My original inspiration for the game was the Enhance scene from Blade Runner. My goal is to make eyeballing the correct command and seeing the shapes align feel as satisfying as possible. I don't want to copy the visual style of the Blade Runner scene, because I know I cannot nail it within this time frame, but I will definitely try to produce some version the cool step-wise chak-chak-chak transition from the start position to the final one. Here is how I imagine the user interface at this stage: Challenges I chose a relatively simple concept for the game as I'm not sure how much time I can dedicate to coding this time. I don't expect major problems with the basic functionality, except maybe in the proper recognition of correct solutions, but I know to expect the unexpected. I think the major obstacle time-wise will be making interesting levels because purely procedurally generated ones will get boring very soon. Thoughts This will be my third Wizard Jam game and third game overall, and I'm super excited to start working on it as well as seeing what everyone else comes up with.

I spent quite some time thinking which game to buy on Steam sale and play over the summer, but then I remembered that I had not finished Hitman and redownloaded it instead. I played through the main missions from Marrakesh to Hokkaido this week, and yes, this game is still fantastic. I love that it lets me experience the missions however I want to, that is, I can choose the hint level and save scum to my heart's content. This makes the game weirdly relaxing for me, since I can spent most of my time in disguise and things only get hectic for 15 s at a time. Based on the various gameplay videos I have watched, it seems that the game is relatively good about letting you recover after being spotted, but that is not the way I personally want to play, so I just load a save instead. Being able to walk from the scene of the crime with no one chasing or looking for you feels really good, something which surprisingly many games ignore in favor of ending the mission in an escape sequence. I'm excited to get into the bonus missions and the Patient Zero campaign. I'm usually not very interested in replaying levels in video games, but the challenge assassination's are so fun that I might replay the regular levels soon as well. I can't wait to play Hitman 2. It sounds like it will be nonepisodic, which is nice for players that breeze through these games. Nevertheless, I still hope that they focus on larger playgrounds and do not add any unnecessary small/linear in-between missions (looking at you Hitman: Absolution).

Thank you very much for playing and streaming! Your training in data plotting has clearly paid off! It was really interesting and helpful to watch you play through the levels. For example, it confirmed my suspicion that the second to last level is pretty annoying: you get the correct shape by rotating by 45 degrees around both axis (in correct order) and enhancing by two, but if you can't guess the sequence or the values it can take really long. I was hoping to play more with 3D geometry, similar to the last level, but simply ran out of time and energy.

Holy shit, Henke! That is awesome!

Thank you all! In case anyone tried to play the game on Mac or Linux and couldn't, I updated the game yesterday. Hopefully those work better now.
