  1. I think that is a good way to look at it. I don't blame you about the lost rent though, that is where everyone should draw the line. I used to live with two guys that constantly did coke and would party on week days until 6 in the morning. There was never any toilet paper because they were constantly blowing their nose with it and when our fourth housemate encouraged us all to do a spring clean, we discovered that one of them had been dumping fast food under the coffee table and it resulted in an infestation of maggots. I am glad I didn't discover it and instead it was one of the coke guys that did as he started dry-heaving. Those were the bad times but the rest of the time it was pretty good fun to drink beer, play video games and they weren't mean people just very dependent on cocaine, which made them a little oblivious to everyone else.
  2. The hilarious Human: Fall Flat

Agreed - picked it up as a 4 game package with Dear Esther, Manual Samuel and another one. This one was great and I am so happy that there has been a resurgence of YouTubers pushing this game because it was genuinely fun.
  3. Call me Ishmael_353 (Sea Of Thieves)

I am likely going to subscribe to the Game Pass thingy - as I will then get all the First-Party stuff. See you guys on the seas!
  4. Oh yeah, going through some stuff on Youtube - there are some scenes that are directly ripped off from The Wild Geese. I really need to watch this film properly without annoying Youtubers talking over the top of it.
  5. Okay, so about 10-13 years ago I posted on this forum with a fairly lengthy plot synopsis for this film I watched as a kid that I thought was totally awesome (but blatantly wasn't) about a group of soldiers that go into Vietnam(?) and are betrayed by some googly eyed weirdo, while teaming up with an ageing pilot and a reporter with heroin needle scars on her arm. I could only remember weird specific bits like the fact that there is a tertiary character named stone who gets killed in a church and the priest who is with them gets crucified and that it ends with this bug-eyed weirdo who betrayed them, being left in a compound surrounded in flamethrower fire. I posted it to an obscure film thread on facebook, and although no one was able to tell me what it was, it did jog my memory that maybe the bug eyed weirdo was Klaus Kinski. IT WAS. The film is called Codename: Wild Geese and has Lee Van Cleef (as the ageing pilot), Ernest Borgnine and Klaus Kinski in it, it was made by the director who made the Last Hunter - a film that people suggested it might be: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Code_Name:_Wild_Geese I am so happy that I finally get to watch this piece of trash that I only watched once when I was about 7, but that left an indelible lasting impression on me
  6. And Jayel's link did have it hidden in there, but I never would have found it: http://www.critcononline.com/codename_wildgeese_1984.htm Oh man, going back and seeing how close I was is fascinating to (just) me.
  7. And to think I was so close when I said the pilot 'looked like Lee Van Cleef' I only asked about this 8 years ago, but all the same it has been bothering me ever since.
  8. The Asian Film Thread

I am not a big fan of 13 Assassins as it feels like an inferior Seven Samurai, but the rest are excellent choices for Miike. I saw someone mention Ong Bak, good choice and worth seeing with it is Tom Yum Goong or The Protector as it is known in the west as they thought that Spicy Prawn Soup would be a ridiculous translation. Both great Thai films. Filmed in Myanmar - I would strongly recommend My Buddha is Punk, it is a documentary about a group of teenagers trying to mix the philosophy of Buddhism with Punk as well as talking about the atrocities being committed in Myanmar right now. Train to Busan is a big Korean movie that is worth checking out, some good humour and likeable characters to go along with it. Mother and The Host are good shouts too. I don't know if this film holds up but Save the Green Planet! left an impression on me when I watched it about 14 years ago, it has a weird story but I wouldn't want to spoil it. Obviously there is The Raid and The Raid II that were made as a response to everyone saying that Thailand had the best Martial Arts/Stunts groups and Idonesia decided to try and prove them wrong. The first is set at a breakneck pace, the second is curious because it has a lot of story and it focuses more on the motivations of the villains (it reminds me a lot of the Yakuza games' plot but don't let that put you off). Kung Fu Dunk, I thing is Taiwanese and follows the Shaolin Soccer approach. It isn't great but the lead is genuinely funny (he was the Green Hornet in the Seth Rogan vehicle) and there is a great song right in the middle about To Fu that makes it worth watching for that alone.
  9. Thanks, that got a chuckle out of me.
  10. Please note, he is Polish so some of his writing is a little confusing. I followed this up with a set of proposals to fix some of the problems as well as some extenuating circumstances that I explained (For example: I differentiate between going out and leaving the room for a few minutes, and never turn off the light in the latter - this is something I have since learned drives him to distraction). He agreed to sit down and talk this through and then apologised for his outburst. But honestly, we haven't sat down and talked about it since then because I really don't care enough. Also, I have 4 months before I leave and go back to Thailand. TL:DR - Sometimes the housemates that don't give a shit about partying until late and not 'cleaning up' after themselves have a different level of tolerance for stuff and sometimes you have to broach the subject with them for them to understand it bothers you. You also need to figure out whether what bothers you is a real thing or a weird thing that only bothers you (eg: both my housemates use my toothpaste and squeeze it from the middle of the tube and forget to put the cap back on, I've reminded them about the cap because it dries out the toothpaste but have shrugged off the squeezing thing)
  11. The bad roommate stories go both ways. I am not a tidy person, I stay up drinking until around midnight, and I am kind of careless about turning off lights. When I moved into the apartment I am staying in, I took stock of the place: it is basically falling apart. One housemate leaves the window open in the kitchen because of the other housemate's horrendous feet smells. The result is that the wind from the local road frequently blows flakes of mud in to the kitchen. For the last 8 months I have made sure to keep the recycling under control (I drink 2-3 beers a night), empty the rubbish when needed, mop and clean the kitchen floor at least once a month. Two days ago I ended up in this exchange (EDIT: In case it is not clear I am on the right in blue):
  12. Well, if you want to know what the first controversy about Spelunky 2 - it isn't due on the Xbox One, after the first was a showcase on the Xbox 360. Okay, not a big deal to most - I am just sad that I might not be able to play it.
  13. Far Cry 2 now Backwards Compatible on Xbox One

I use it all the time. I've been replaying Child of Eden, Rage, Frontlines: Fuel of War, EDF 2017 and Driver: San Francisco. I can't find my copy of Far Cry 2 though.
  14. Star Wars Episode 8

Doh, I guess it is probably a good thing that no one is interested. I mean fuck those guys.
  15. Star Wars Episode 8

If anyone wants a giggle, MRAs have made an edit that gets rid of all the women: https://www.pedestrian.tv/entertainment/last-jedi-mra-fan-edit-women/
  16. Movie/TV recommendations

Too much Baby Driver, but yes, otherwise it is cool to see so many good films came out this year.
  17. That science theory... Isn't that the basic plot for Interstellar? Like, we are laughing at it because a kid wrote it, but it is basically a Sci-Fi plot.
  18. GOTY of the Year

I wrote mine for gamecritics: https://gamecritics.com/aj-small/ajs-top-10-of-2017/
  19. Marvel movies

I want another Ang Lee Hulk, and I want another Punisher film starring Thomas Jane. But, more on point I fucking loved Thor: Ragnarok. The comedy hit on every level for me, it was great to see everyone having genuine fun. I went to see this with a Polish friend and the first time Thor flexed his muscles she just went "Oh, hello."; I laughed thinking it was kind of adorable. Cate Blanchett came onscreen and I understood exactly what she meant. Then Tessa Thompson from 'Dear White People' and 'War on Everyone' and I was just like "fuuuck". Great cast, lovely dialogue, and enough of it for me to not care what my nerd friends thought about the inconsistencies.
  20. Star Wars Episode 8

This is going to derail it but does anyone have that interview with the guy that helped make the Star Wars trilogy but then was cast out and resulted in Return of the Jedi not being what it should have been? I remember Chris Remo mentioning it on a podcast years ago and the subsequent article and interview was fascinating.
  21. Star Wars Episode 8

So, I had this weird thing where I was never bored during the film (my partner needed the toilet by the time they got to 2 hours in and then had to hold it for another 20 minutes) but almost as soon as someone asked me what I thought about it I could only think of the things I didn't like. But yeah, it was fine, better than Rogue One
  22. Recently completed video games

Yeah, he was removed from another game as a result of his views and people were surprised that he was still in this game.
  23. Recently completed video games

    And Jontron is in it.
  24. Recently completed video games

Yeah, I played 1, 2, 3 and 4 in the space of 2 years and it was not the way to play that series. By the time I got to 4 the story telling and mechanics and melted away and I just felt like I might as well do data entry.
