  1. Darksiders 3 Excitement?

When it leaked I was excited. Then I saw what they were demoing and I was less so. I think I'll be a lot more into it once the game has been spruced up a bit and they show something off that doesn't look like a very early demo. I loved both Darksiders games, I am a big fan of the art style, so I will definitely buy it. What I am not a big fan of is things like the Fury collection, good deal, misleading marketing.
  2. If anyone wants to know what 90s-as-fuck is, I present Heartbreak High, an Australian TV-Show in the 90s: It encapsulates everything, cheesy colours, 'tude, hair cuts, the lot.
  3. So, I just finished playing the beta for Raiders of the Broken Planet. I kind of liked it. It has some fantastic Lost Planet 2-style boss fights and the griefing of the Antagonists is akin to Mindjack and works better than the way that Evolve played out in terms of asymmetrical multiplayer. Anyway, they are going with an episodic approach that I think might work as long as they rapidly release the content. I wrote a preview for it if anyone is interested and wants to sign up for the Beta as it runs again this weekend: https://gamecritics.com/gc-staff/raiders-of-the-broken-planet-preview/
  4. Master of None (TV series)

The I love New York episode shits all over the film of the same name. It was so fun and interesting to watch. This season has been lower on laughs but high on strong themes of identity. I haven't watched the last episode yet, but I found the second to last episode to be beautifully shot but the weakest in terms of story.
  5. Quitter's Club: Don't be ashamed to quit the game.

I loved both of the Darksiders games for very different reasons as they are different games. I think you can find most of my thoughts on them back in the Darksiders thread.
  6. Movie/TV recommendations

I absolutely loved he fine line that the Christmas Special trod between overly sentimental and actually adding more story to the series. In my opinion it was one of the best Christmas specials ever. I go on about F&F a lot but, in terms of giving a feeling of family not being blood relations, Sens8 has F&F beat in terms of the naturalness of the setting and characters. The Christmas special is just immensely positive in a way that most Sci-Fi isn't. I just watched a string of films that no one should: - Terminator Genisys - It was like listening to a greatest hits album of a band you used to like but the mixing and production has gone to such a level to remove any of the charm, wit or grit from the original tracks. It also doesn't help that the big twist was spoiled by the trailer. - From Paris with Love - I can't tell if Luc Besson is being super racist in this film, ot if it is his scathing satire on American foreign policy. At the time I had no idea what it was about but in this post-Paris attacks period the film is even more crass. John Travolta shows up in the Liam Neeson role of 'minority killer' and proceeds to kill Asians of all types in an attempt to stop some terrorists (he seems to be doing this by shooting anyone that isn't white) in Paris. It is utterly atrocious. - Underworld: Awakening - It was there, it was terrible - I couldn't tell you what happened
  7. 13 Reasons Why

    It gets worse.
  8. The Fast and the Furious series

That is perfect and could only be written by someone that loves the series.
  9. Recently completed video games

I didn't catch them all but there are some really interesting parts where a certain someone's intentions become much more obvious if you spend a little time rewinding an idle conversation. I didn't know about the one you mentioned but there are bound to be more.
  10. 13 Reasons Why

Okay, I am getting very near the end and there is evil, manipulative shit in this show that makes me really fucking angry. I think it is in the episode before the big reveal between Clay and Hannah (SPOILERS for episode 10 and 11):
  11. The Fast and the Furious series

I just finished watching F8 of the Furious. Anyone that has struggled with the last two is not going to like this one. I got drunk in the cinema on Coronas and laughed my way through it. Honestly, I just had so much fun with it that I couldn't fault the terrible plot twists and the violence-as-comedy bits. SPOILERS: Michelle Rodriguez does not fight an MMA type-person My list isn't much different at the top but but it definitely changes after the top three. 1. Fast Five (2011) 2. Furious 7 (2015) 3. Fast & Furious 6 (2013) 4. F8 of the Furious (2017) 5. Fast & Furious (2009) 6. The Fast and the Furious (2001) 7. The Fast and the Furious: Tokyo Drift (2006) 8. 2 Fast 2 Furious (2003)
  12. 13 Reasons Why

The further I go into it, the more I don't like the show. My last post was angry at Hannah, but what I think I am angry at is Hannah's writer. https://theestablishment.co/13-reasons-scared-the-shit-out-of-me-and-it-should-scare-you-too-5d3fd4e8d300 Written by the mother of a suicidal son, I think this resonates with me the most.
  13. 13 Reasons Why

I was also going to compare it to Riverdale, except that it doesn't know it is bad. Honestly, I do like that the film feels genuinely teenage voices - as in they are self serious in a completely uninronic way. The main character Hannah is deeply manipulative and shitty, and I can only hope that the other people becoming believeably more shitty. What is good, is that somehow I still want to find out what is going happen. So, they got that right.
  14. I've been writing a series of pieces called 'On the Other Hand', this time I did one on the Mass Effect Andromeda grossness: https://medium.com/@twmac/on-the-other-hand-those-mass-effect-animations-98d3c9d72ffd
  15. Kind of reminds me of Mario Lopez too.
  16. Soooo weird that people would talk about the Streets of Rage box art. For years I would do all these drawings, mainly based around a sewer dweller (he was a hybrid of Blanka and the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles). I'd owned Streets of Rage for 4 years when I examined the box and realised that subconsciouly I must have noticed that sewer goblin because my drawings resembled what little you could see of him.
  17. I have an elite controller on Xbox One, and I only use them for games that don't have remappable controls, that also require melee attacks or the like to be effective in first person shooters. Most of the time they are a pain in the arse because you need those fingers to, you know, hold the controller.
  18. Justice League film

I wish they would bring Brandon Routh back and admit they made a mistake with the recasting.
  19. Movie/TV recommendations

Just watched the new Dave Chapelle special and, man is it rough. It starts off well and then struggles entirely. There is a 13-15 minute bit where he fumbles transgender rights and he keeps hinting at his own ignorance and toying with it before just making transgender people the punchline. He then, almost, ends it on a rape joke that could have been really interesting and ended up just feeling like a Cosby apology. His anecdotes on meeting OJ Simpson were good as it gives an insight into the shifting sands of fame and infamy. I truly cannot recommend it to anyone.
  20. Life

Cheers, it has been especially hard because they lie to everyone about it, so you have to unravel a lot of their bullshit before you can even talk to them about the real problem. Sorry, this posting was originally a means of venting, I appreciate any comments at all right now and I wish they would understand the damage they are causing to themselves and to their partner.
  21. Riverdale

Me , my partner and our house mate sit down and watch this every week. It is one of the funnest shows to sit there and rip to shreds, while also unironically enjoying. Veronica is clearly the best character. Also, I am calling it now. Luke Perry, being the only halfway human being in the show that isn't a main character, did it. Happy to be wrong though as he is kind of adorable now that he isn't a young 'teen' in Beverly Hills 90210.
  22. Life

Cheers, it doesn't help that they have deliberately isolated themselves so that it makes it very hard for them to get help.
  23. Life

During my teens and early twenties I sort of got used to people around me being drug addicts. Living in Brighton where everyone seems to suffer from Peter Pan syndrome, that comes hand in hand with all sorts of consumption. My first friend to die of an overdose happened when I was 18 and the number got really bad up until I was about 26 (one guy took a ton of acid and then played a 'trick' by grabbing a live train line). As people grew up this just kind of stopped and drugs just seemed to get boring or exhausting for most. Except, it seems that some of my friends just started covering it up, not celebrating it like they had and resorting to doing it in secret. It has basically hit one friend in particular pretty hard and they don't seem to have ever developed mechanisms or even come close to recognising that they have a real problem. They will make token gestures towards 'yeah, I have a problem' but immediately go out and binge, with the 'revelation' satisfying anyone that confronts them about it long enough for them to just resort back to their own habits. I am trying to get through to them as it is now fucking up their life, job and relationship. They just don't seem to care and use anything they can as an excuse to go back to drugs. The very fact that the drugs are fucking up their lives, is an excuse in itself to continue to do more drugs. It is kind of scary to me, I am in my late thirties now and we (my friends and I) would be past this phase of our lives. I need to do a proper sit down for sure but after that I am seriously considering contacting their parents.
  24. The Great Co-op Thread

Glad to see the endorsement for Neon Chrome - tried the demo on Xbox One ad thought it was really good but didn't see many reviews for it anywhere. Sniper Elite 4 is out and it is really, really good. Not quite at the same level and quality as the first half of MGSV but it has great co-op. ALSO: I can't believe no one has mentionedd Overcooked! I guess it was on the podcast so not necessary, but I just waned to mention that my partner and I played it and she was obsessed with it for a good few months. I also picked Divinity and she really enjoyed it until it got too RPG focused. We played through the fighting but when we got to the village she kept trying to steal everything and getting us in trouble with the town guards. The game goes into split screen which was useful for me to do some of the quest development but I realised her heart wasn't into it when I looked over on her half of the screen and her character was just chatting to a grazing cow.
