  1. Yeah, it's a really cool setup they've worked out. All the same, I'll miss the Necromancer...
  2. So.. Batman: Arkham Asylum

Didn't she have her blood turned to chlorophyll? One would assume then that she can create her own nutrients using light and water like a plant does. Asking what Poison Ivy eats is like asking what a sunflower eats, as far as I know.
  3. Yeah, I meant Amazon. She was called the Rogue in D1, so I got confused there. That commercial was great. I've never seen it, and I bought it the month it came out. Ah, back when nobody cared if a 13 year old bought an M rated game...
  4. Wizaaaaaards!!

I went to see Ponyo a few nights ago, and nearly killed myself laughing at her outburst of "Is your father an EVIL Wizard?"
  5. Non-video games

Much love for Dominion. That game is fucking rad. I have three good friends who work at three separate gaming shops now. Between them, there's always something to play. Our Wednesday games night is always full of interesting stuff they've signed out from work and want to try. We've been playing so much Dominion lately that Russell has gone for it and bought the game and its expansion. Highly recommended by me.
  6. Excellent! My first game was with a Necromancer as well. Then a Paladin, then a Rogue, then a Druid (expansion had come out). When they announced Diablo III, I started a game with a Barbarian, and I think I'm stalled near the end of Lut Gholein. I should go back and continue that. I'll be getting a laptop soon too, and intend to start up a new game on that one. Either Sorceress or another Necromancer. I've already played it with him, of course, but that was in 2001. I'm crap with spell-heavy characters anyway. Needless to say, you should get a lot of mileage out of this game.
  7. Movie/TV recommendations

Going to see Ponyo tonight. Excited! As for Avatar, those aliens look like the blue things from those Animorphs books I used to read when I was about 10. No idea what they're called anymore, but yeah.
  8. So.. Batman: Arkham Asylum

Man, the Hush reference knocked me flat. That's some damn detail work there. Anyway, just finished the fight with Bane, and the game tells me I'm 13% of the way through, so I'm probably a bit more qualified to comment now. Holy shit, this is excellent. The combat is brilliant, the stealth is great (if you buy into it. I'll explain...) and everything is just so perfectly Batman. Awesome. As for the buying into the stealth, it's sort of like a Splinter Cell thing where you have to not think that the enemies are real human but some kind of alien race that can't make out a giant blob in a shadow 4 feet from them. Or, in the case of Batman, a dude in a cape hanging upside down from a gargoyle across the room. That inverted takedown, while really cool, is definitely the worst offender in the area of "Really? The guards can't see THAT?!?" Other minor things abound, but dodgy AI aside, it still really feels amazing to pick off a room full of henchmen one by one and watch them start to panic. There was one bit in a hostage situation where I got them down to the last of 6-ish guys and he started to panic and fire blindly into any shadow that looked suspicious. I fucked with him a bit by throwing batarangs into the corner near him, causing him to swivel and shoot at my discarded projectile. Then I swept down from the ceiling and kicked him in the back of the head. Fuck yes. Anyway, I have to be up for work in 5 hours, and have already stayed up too late playing this game to spend more time writing about it. Night night. EDIT: Can't believe I didn't mention the Scarecrow. Holy fucking shit. Don't want to spoil anything, but I hear there are multiple sections with him and if the others are anything like the first, worth buying the game for alone.

  10. Rage

Jagged Alliance? Can't think of much else though.
  11. I hear games are a great way to do that.

  13. So.. Batman: Arkham Asylum

Man, all that and they kept Clayface locked up??? I would have loved a fight with him. So far, my hour with it was great. Hamill does a great job as the Joker, sounding enough like my memories of him from the day to cash in on that happy nostalgia. I'm loving the combat engine, although the sneaking feels kinda iffy. Maybe it's just been the scenarios I've used it in though. The grapple stuff is great and I hope it means there are some huge outdoor segments scaling the walls of the asylum and such. Seems like it would be well suited to it and a lot of fun. At any rate, I'll be booting it up when I get home and can't wait to get back to it.
  14. So.. Batman: Arkham Asylum

As it's $30 off for the next few days, I grabbed it under the rationale that I would sooner or later anyway. Played about an hour of it. I need to run to work right now, but if I get some time on the office computer I'll post some impressions for those of you on the fence.
  15. tried signing in about 7 times, but never got to play. That's a full damn month I've missed now. :(
  16. Nintendo Inflatable Donkey

Yeah, I threw a link to that one up in the Episode 38 thread. Freaking weird. I assume you'll need to hit the buttons somehow, but this seems to make them completely inaccessible. I don't get it...
  17. Horse bag gets a sequel: Nintendo Football Peripheral.
  18. It was pretty low-tech even in 1998. Great 2D art, but nothing that will strain your computer. As long as you have a decent mouse to play it with, you'll be set.
  19. Tales of Monkey Island

Man, some parts of this game just made me feel so damn smart and pleased with myself. Just finished it about 5 minutes ago. So awesome. Although I did experience a lot more graphical issues with this game than any other from Telltale. A lot more stuttering and such. Never anything huge, but noticeable. At the same time, this was the first time I've ever noticed the audio compression issues that other people seem to like to complain about. If I'm noticing it in this episode and have never heard it before, I'm guessing it must be completely horrible for those who have heard it all along. Those presentation/optimization issues aside, damn fine game. I didn't have a particularly hard time with the pirates getting distracted, but I spent a good deal more time wandering around aimlessly in this episode than I did in any other Telltale projects. Not so much once I got into the game, but initially having to find a path through the jungle and working out how to even start looking for the macguffins. Once I'd remembered it all clicked, but a little more direction early on would have been nice. Just stumbling on what I needed to do, while certainly in character for Guybrush, led to a mildly irritating opening half hour or so.
  20. Burn the Rope !!

Damn, I was going to mention that but someone beat me to it. Even if you don't support Card though, you have to admit the cinematics by Scorsese and Alan Smithee were incredible.
  21. GDC and Gamescom Cologne 2009

I really want your Ballad of Gay Tony shirt. Damn, that's awesome.
  22. Beatles: Rock Band

I still feel like one of the best guitars of any game is the Guitar Hero II Xplorer that shipped with the 360 version. I play Rock Band 2 with that, and it works great. I would be using the wireless RB2 strat as it looks really nice, but I don't have one so there we are.
  23. Summer of Arcade 2009! Are you ready to party?

Like everyone else in this thread, I have purchased 'Splosion Man and Trials HD. 'Splosion Man is good, not amazing, but very entertaining in short bursts. Trials I bought this afternoon and spent about 4 hours playing before realizing that, shit, I had to go to work. Damn that game is rad. I have this obsessive bullshit impulse to get a gold medal on everything, and am finding myself constantly cursing Vimes and 'Blix as the two people on my friends list who are consistently scoring higher than me (although not by much, and I have beaten you bastards a few times) at the levels. I'm about 3 gold medals into the medium difficulty now, not allowing myself to move on to the next level until I've gotten gold on the one before it. I can't imagine that will last for much longer, given how long the last two gold runs have taken me to pull off, but dammit it's working so far. Great game. I'm excited to play it when I get home from work (on the office computer now) but also kind of scared that if I do I won't sleep. Conundrums...
  24. Happy Birthday Rodi!

By virtue of OssK's vaguely unsettling uncovering of Rodi's details in the WTFFF thread, it has come to my attention that our own Bad Brains intern Rodi is turning 25 today. Felt I should show a bit of love for one of my fellow hold-outs from the old days. Happy birthday, dude. May you rock the shit thoroughly tonight while partying.
