  1. Obligatory Comical YouTube Thread II: The Fall of YouTube

I was searching for ninja animation reference...
  2. Netflix

Well you could always just pirate Netflix.
  3. Life

Why are you driving 3 and a half hours to Houston from Austin?! Gotta beat my 2 hour and 30 minute time! Also thank you for pointing out how idiotic Austin's highway system is, most people don't seem to grasp how idiotic it is. I'm really not much of a fan of Austin, but it's my home now. A word from someone who grew up here, since I mostly meet people who moved here, is that Austinites did not want to allow space for other people outside the city to move in and spoil their little hippie culture, so city council routinely made decisions against widening roads or making them generally accessible. Not incredibly sure how true this is, but sounds about right given my experience with the city's born and raised inhabitants.
  4. Netflix

I'm guessing it's more like someone dropped the ball localizing it for Norway than the Netflix service itself. I mean it is the service itself, but it could be a shoddy 3rd party contract job. I've never encountered Netflix bothering me about Facebook and I guess North America just doesn't have to deal with auto subtitles unless the movie isn't in English. It's really not fair how they are running it in your country, but maybe if you were vocal to Netflix, some things might get passed on and changed?
  5. Celebrating 100 Episodes (Maybe)

I just want an hour of pure tears.
  6. anime

I'm still annoyed they removed the final still from the U.S. DVD release.
  7. New Forums! Post feedback, notes, etc here

Ah, I see, I go from my settings, not from the person's profile. Too much Facebook. Poor dog. EDIT: Oh neat I can ignore signatures for those annoying times when forums have members that compete to have the largest, most obnoxious sigs ever.
  8. Life

How'd you do that, Hermie? Are these three different users or one user with three personalities? Also it'd be nice if you guys used some capitalization in your name changes, sheesh.
  9. New Forums! Post feedback, notes, etc here

Am I still able to block or put other members on ignore?
  10. I checked the manual scans of the PS2 version of Shadow of the Colossus, since my HD collection one is pretty bare, but it doesn't say the bosses names. It would have been pretty neat for those to appear at the bottom when they are introduced. Also, the original manual does detail the horse controls, so they aren't that secret.
  11. RetroN 3

I generally avoid any of these combination consoles because of issues with NES sound emulation, SNES compatability, and very rarely any kind of S-Video support. Better off just owning the original systems just for less headaches.
  12. How are we supposed to know their names anyway? Am I missing a little introduction subtitle?
  13. Life

Shit, is your yard all flooded?
  14. Worlds of Wander: Tom Hall's new "Keen" Kickstarter

But you've gotta put on that expression. Platforms are tough neighborhoods.
  15. Worlds of Wander: Tom Hall's new "Keen" Kickstarter

I've never understood the like for Commander Keen. I've played almost all of them just because I only had either an NES or PC for the longest time to get my platforming fix, and even then I knew the Keen games were pretty mediocre. It has the worst level design type where you just randomly jump around using bad physics to collect junk for points in very uneventful and unforgiving levels. The level layouts are just arbitrary where someone always seemed like they spent about 10 minutes placing some tiles and enemies before moving on to the next level to do the same. I have no idea who the audience would be for these days outside of people who accept subpar platformers based on nostalgia.
  16. Did I actually see turtles? I'm beginning to think that was a dream.
  17. Games that nail atmosphere and immersion

It's weird but I have not felt this in a long time. Maybe Beyond Good and Evil was the last, but not when I played the HD version when it came out. The strange thing is it seemed like a lot of what has motivated my immersion in the past was naivete and environment. Young me used to wrap himself in a blanket with all lights turned out and computer monitor on only with headphones, just completely isolating myself. My family mostly kept to themselves, so there wasn't always a lot of noise or bothering going on. I can think of really getting into countless adventure games this way, where I was just completely taken over. Full Throttle, Space Quests (I remember 6 especially for some reason), Monkey Island, The Dig, Discworld Noir, Grim Fandango, Neverhood, Tex Murphy, Willy Beamish (this game seemed insanely huge to me), Freddy Pharkas, Another World, and Kyrandia. I don't really have that kind of calm atmosphere anymore and my life is no longer so carefree and there's always some kind of stress floating around. The main requirement has always been that the game should have a good cinematic quality, nice music, and the feeling of openness, but not the tedious open world sort. The problem is, I'm now older and just see adventure games and such as pictures on a screen and things I have to click on. If I see bad art with weird or funky construction, the artist in me gets annoyed at bad craftsmanship. I'm sure a lot of bad Sierra art and animation would really bother me now, and I think I'd get annoyed more at the fuzzy green screen edges of Under a Killing Moon. Newer immersive 3D worlds are just systems to go through. Nothing feels like nice dose of another reality now that my cynicism and knowledge of game design is prevalent. Really the only time I feel immersed in the same way now is by watching a good movie in a dark movie theatre. I wish some games still compared to that. So yeah, useless introspection aside, I guess I recommend old adventure games(?).
  18. Is it not enough for you that I found some turtles?!
  19. I finished colossus 4. Not sure if I really have anything to say, I didn't seem to have any hang ups or confusion whatsoever besides getting on in the first place. After jumping to the giant's legs from my horse multiple times and missing, a hint thingy popped up and told me to get underground. It all worked out from there. No frustration. Shit! I wish I had known that earlier! Too late, collectathon's over.
  20. anime

I get sad when I find out there is someone who loves animation but has not seen that movie.
  21. A New Beginning - Final Cut

I haven't played this game, but I have the UK boxed version of this game and it does not say "Final Cut" on it. Is this a version with extra stuff added for Steam? I can't seem to find any information.
  22. This is the new (console) shit!

Remo is fucking right, it IS going to be 4D!
  23. I don't pay attention to anyone on that list but John K., but he just seems to enjoy all of the features in Harmony more than Flash, which he consulted on very early in the 90s in terms of of tools needed to animation, It wouldn't have to be created on the basis of Flash development to import FLAs. Kind of like how you can export swfs from Maya now. Things like animation curves and tweened shapes are proprietary to all digital animation programs (good ones at least). Toon boom is useless for video games though, which is the edge Flash has. The issues with Flash interacting with other Adobe programs is that they treat Flash like shit. It never gets any useful new features, the framework never seems to be updated to flow better, and it tends to be still buggy as shit with an outdated vector creation. There's no useful non cheesy filters or nice brushes if you wanted to skip post processing for painterly style animation. Meanwhile Adobe updates all of their other programs extensively. It's like after they bought it out from Macromedia they wanted the file format, not the program itself.
  24. "Flash based" in that it's another program with keyable timeline and vector graphics? Would that make After Effects Flash based as well? Wha?
  25. Have y'all been following this HR287 business?

    Er... jokes.
