Link please. So... this is what's really bugging me here: Why do all women stalk?

Yikes! How well does that end up working of for the community?

That's kind of what I meant with it being useless when dealing with public events based on cult of personality. There's a major gaming convention owned and run by some volatile dues, charity as well. It's not like you can oust them or change figureheads if someone sucks. Boycott is perhaps the wrong word, as I actually hope everyone can just eventually forget about Penny Arcade instead of trying to have some kind of open dialogue because they have the keys to the Desoto. People are more than welcome to start creating their own similar small scale conventions. The IGDA heads in Austin (plus other crew) are starting Captivate as of this year to fill the void of GDC. Comic and Anime Cons seem to pop up in every major city without any kind of affiliation between each other. Derp, I didn't realize Sexy Video Game Land was her either. I guess I suck at paying attention to who is writing what article half the time. But yeah it appears SVGL is in all of the archived posts on her new site for many years back. What? Every fucking day there's something about gay marriage in the news in the United States. People will base their whole political opinion on whether or not a candidate's platform includes banning gay marriage. And to bring it closer to games, nearly every day there is a news article on one of the big journalistic sites speaking of feminist issues and how they pertain to video games. Of course it's all necessarily and I think these discussions need to be had, but I also sometimes find it pretty exhausting to constantly hear about these issues. So if I feel exhausted from constant exposure, I can only imagine that even the bros that only visit the IGN forums and log off for the day have in some way or another gotten wind of what issues there are with the prevailing gaming culture at the moment.

Only if I can get Hitler to sign my pass, allowing me to get through all of the road checkpoints, no questions asked.

So do any of the figures pose? Do the figures for The Cave pose?

0 I want some coldcuts now. I think it's lunch time.

My fiance was making fun of me last night because ever since I started buying DVDs I would make notes of where the easter eggs are in the menus on a small slip of paper and put it inside the case. That's probably more like sad OCD though. I think most of my nerdiness is the result of sad OCD. Like for instance, I will need to own DVD versions of everything significant a director I like has made, including music videos. The rule is though there must be at least two music videos on the DVD that are not found on any other compilation set by said director. So because of this I have a DVDs of music videos for Rick Springfield, Paula Abdul, and Madonna because of David Fincher. I also own a DVD of Jordan Mechner's Chavez Ravine documentary. I remember when watching that my fiance (then girlfriend) said, "What is this?" Then I explain the Chavez Ravine story or whatever is going on on screen. "Why are you watching it?" "Well uh... because the guy who designed Prince of Persia made it..." "You nerd!"

I don't like this argument at all. Why even bother waiting for them to change? I would rather people just boycott and move on to getting different conventions together. Who needs to support a corporation founded on the ego of a few guys and their dumb comic? I mean I know who does, everyone who loves video games and comics it would seem, but if anything maybe this will help these people with blind fan faith start to understand why making an "industry standard" conventionsbased on a cult of personality is the wrong way of doing things. The sooner the gaming community stops worshiping Penny Arcade and ignores it altogether, the better everyone will be for it. I've never understood the appeal of the comic in the first place, always seemed to promote the usual gaming bro culture with dick jokes and constant sarcasm but with just a tad bit of intellectual analysis thrown in... sometimes. I don't know why anyone expects the creators to be some kind of bastion of good judgment. Also I read this Leigh Alexander article on it last night: http://leighalexander.net/still-never-going-to-pax/ Off topic, After realizing she had a website I went through a few more of her articles. Her name seems to keep popping up and I had read some of her pieces before on Gamasutra and Kotaku and havdalways loved them. I think she is becoming my favorite game journalist now that I put all the pieces together. Also I see her favorite game is MGS3. Yes!

It's because this forum is indeed a test from God. Also, really sorry to hear about your mom. Is it kind of a permanent thing for the rest of her life to be susceptible to fainting or will the soft spot heal over?

What? What the fuck? I mean I'm glad it's not real bullets, but the only people I imagine getting thrills from shooting BB guns at people are kids under the age of 11, and they don't drive.

I forgot how to solve any of that part. I remember it being frustrating though.

Catching up with you "retro wishlist".
syntheticgerbil replied to Tanukitsune's topic in Video Gaming
I just prefer to avoid emulators whenever possible as I still enjoy playing things on the original console. I have some flash carts for various things, but a good reproduction looks "nicer" on the shelf I suppose. -
Well that's good to hear! I am probably not playing it soon, but I feel better knowing I will probably appreciate it more since what you are saying seems like it is going to be somewhat closer to Super Metroid and Zero Mission in terms of mechanics and fun factor. The further it is away from the NES game, the better. My original post seems to be a bit more negative than I remember, but I did love Zero Mission, even the hard maneuvers. I wasn't too keen on getting all the endings, that was not very fun, but that is really more of a problem with my OCD and it forcing me to mimic expert gamers instead of really any problem with the game itself. Definitely playing Zero MIssion completely defined the addictiveness and tight design of the series and why I shouldn't be missing it.

I have an Earthbound Zero repro cart but it looks like this: (This is not my picture) I played it on my NES and it was pretty cool to experience it like that. It was no where as fancy as the one you posted. I used www.nesproductions.com but I don't know if that guy is still active. I had to buy a cart that worked with the game and then send that along with $25, so it really wasn't so bad. -
That time Gabe Newell hacked my computer
syntheticgerbil replied to thestalkinghead's topic in Idle Banter
So it appears Gabe Newell needed to trengthen internal development studios and this is why you experienced the need for more trength through surveillance. Lu is right. While the intern might not have minded some new IPs, he might have appreciated another Half Life Episode. It did after all give us all the trength to keep enjoying rail shooters. -
Idle Thumbs 121: (I Know You're Having Fun But) I'm Still Working
syntheticgerbil replied to Jake's topic in Idle Thumbs Episodes & Streams
This was probably not implied at all, but I got the feeling maybe Chris was thinking that Rayman Legends using the farm crap per level thing was a newer design trope for the series. Just in case maybe that was the thought, I just wanted to pipe in that you could not finish the very first Rayman without getting every single cage in the game. The last level was just barred from entry until you did so. That game was particularly difficult because the cages were often just a matter of walking into blank areas and hoping you hear a ding where a secret is unlocked somewhere else on the map. Rayman 2 also did this somewhat by having you collect x amount of lums before checkpoints in the world map, but it incredibly more forgiving. Both Rayman Legends and Origins are much more of a throwback to the more meticulous first game. But again, that probably was not implied at all and I'm most likely just taking advantage of that short detour in the podcast to take it upon myself to blab Rayman trivia no one actually cares about. -
Hahaha, brilliant! Speed dial with the A button.

Did embedded Youtube videos break for anyone here? I can see what the title of the video is and I can choose to copy and paste the link in the upper right corner, but the preview frame always shows up as black. When I actually press play, it just turns completely black and I can no longer select controls, see the title, or grab the link.

Agreed, I can hardly type a fucking text message without screwing up every third word. I can't imagine doing any kind of game that requires a lot of skill and precision control. Every game I have on an iPad is either incredibly passive or a frustrating waste of time. The big scree in there, but touch controls are just so mushy and unpredictable.

The answer is not the same games and apps. And usually not anywhere reaching the quality of a Nintendo game. That's pretty much it.
-
That's kind of what I meant, not everyone realizes all of that.

You also have to include the Game Boy Pocket as a notable entry, plus the 4 models of the Gameboy Advance make it confusing as well as the DS, DS Lite, DSi, DSi XL, 3DS, 3DS XL, and now 2DS. The amount of time elapsed between Game Boy versions was at least 5 years, outside of the 2 years between Pocket and Color, so they were somewhat less confusing. Plus you have to keep in mind the games labeled Super Game Boy were not always clear on what was different with their Color counterparts (Super Game Boy would always display less colors but it sometimes had things like digital sound effects added). The worst one is how all Wiis manufactured now no longer play Game Cube games. SNES had S-Video removed on all second models and NES lost the A/V output on NES 2. I feel like out of all Nintendo hardware releases, only Game Cube and 64 were spared any kind of major hardware tweaks in any department. This kind of stuff is exactly why SEGA fucked everything up in their hardware department between the release of the Genesis and the Saturn, thus hurting the Saturn in the end. I don't know, I'm with Thrik on this one, to figure out the models of the Nintendo systems and what features each one does and does not have is a headache and helps diminish the importance of their brand iterations. If they are going to release simple hardware tweaks with one name and then brand a major hardware revamp with the same name, it causes confusion for those who don't know which it is and can't decipher it without hopping on Wikipedia. This is bad if it is a parent in the store trying to figure out what the hell they are supposed to buy for their kids.

Yeah I was going to say that, Big Lebowski appeals to a very wide crowd, no way that reading The Big Sleep is essential to appreciate it. Yes! I am almost sure I remember one where it say Madonna had sex with a bull, but even with the internet these days and it's digging up of old crap, I still can't find this particular episode and I feel really confused if that's what was actually said. If so, that's pretty fucking slanderous.

How did this thread happen? Michiko to Hatchin is coming out on blu-ray soon and I have no money for it. Ah luxury goods.

I still kind of have a soft spot for the first season of Dragon Ball, plus that portion of the manga it was based on. I don't know what it is but it's like Akira Toriyama had better drawing skills back then with more construction and appeal than what he later put out. Plus the story is much cuter and imaginative. Beyond that, my Dragonball days have been over since 8th grade.
