  1. Thanks for the name guides! It wasn't this so much - there's no way I will have heard of 99% of the stuff discussed - it's more like when one of you says something like "and they both have talking swords, which is a dreadful thing to write in" and I'm thinking "sounds pretty cool to me, is this dreadful because it's an overdone thing in anime or does it not fit with the style of the show or..?" It wasn't constant, just something I noticed a couple of times and, as I say, could just be a noob issue on my part.
  2. I listened to the 'cast last week and really enjoyed it! My feedback: Two hours long and four(?) presenters - no wonder it took so long to edit together! Codicier did a good job, though. Everyone sounded very professional and relaxed. Only Andy/NinjaSqiurrel sounded tinny/skypey to me, but I could hear what he was saying well enough. I guess perhaps you don't want to do it on the podcast because it might tie it to these forums too directly, but could you list here which person goes by which handle? Also, I especially want to know who it is that sounds like Kieron Gillen! Found it interesting that at least one person pronounces it ani-mee rather than ani-may. I barely know anything about anime, so this might only be my problem, but it felt like a few times you were talking about things being good or bad but not why. For instance, that whole bit where you were talking about powers like the guy with a demon face on his back - you were pretty much just listing stuff that I thought sounded interesting or cool, but laughing at them as if they were self-evidently awful. Plus I felt a couple of times like it might have helped to focus the flow of discussion if the presenters got into the habit of briefly stating their position or thought on something first and then illustrating it. Again, this might be because I'm missing Anime 101 unspoken connections, but sometimes I felt like I was listening to you describe an aspect of a thing without understanding what your point or opinion was. Very much looking forward to the next one!

Why is that dumb? MORE LOST SPOILERS INCOMING,obviously.
  4. QUILTBAG Thread of Flagrant Homoeroticism

Hey, it was you lot who moved the conversation over to the Kardashians in general! But yeah, I agree with pretty much all those responses to my post. Anyway, back to Caitlyn: yeah, there's allusions in that (pre-)article to people accusing her of doing it purely to up the reality tv stakes or whatever. But I thought it was cool that my girlfriend be more up on Caitlyn news than I am because she reads trash rags and watches docu-soaps whereas it hadn't shown up on here, for example; shows that it's reaching the mainstream with trans* issues.
  5. QUILTBAG Thread of Flagrant Homoeroticism

This is pretty tangential, but that's a response I hear a lot to criticisms of women who became famous through a sex tape or being a topless model or whatever, and I disagree. It really doesn't take a lot of media savvy to get representation after your sex tape has been released and say yes to everything.
  6. QUILTBAG Thread of Flagrant Homoeroticism

Caitlyn Jenner did a Vanity Fair shoot and article. Interesting that her children have known for years that she privately identified as a woman.

I saw it in 2D. I think I remember the guitar shot - it kind of bungees towards camera, in the midst of an explosion or something? I didn't find that obnoxious or incongruous or anything.
  8. Life

    Yayyyy!

I think the issue with that shot is that it's so authored (and cheesy). Whether it's a composited live-action element with super-imposed HD photographical elements, or pure CGI, it's still a steering wheel flying directly and face-on into camera. Personally I didn't mind him using that as a full-stop to the sequence, but it certainly stuck out and I can see why a lot of people didn't like it. It's kind of like how Peter Jackson always has his CG creatures run right at camera until the camera is in their mouth in a way that films using real animals can't - it steps over the line into cartoonish for me.
  10. I think it's usually tied to the motherboard, so you might be okay..!
  11. I got a notification from Windows 7 inviting me to reserve my free copy of Windows 10. Are people here going to take them up on this? On the one hand it's a free copy of the latest Windows, on the other hand Windows 7 is sturdy and installed and it seems like "reserving" it entails the auto-download of the 3 gig install package which, due to my small-SSD-for-Windows-large-HDD-for-everything-else set up, would kind of force my hand to immediately switch.

I hope they have some really good making-of stuff on the blu-ray that covers all this stuff.
  13. Meow.

    It's-a meow.

I should point out that Gorm is including pre-production in that. Assuming Wikipedia is correct and I'm reading it right, the film was shot from July 2012 to December 2012 with some re-shoots in November 2013. I really enjoyed Kung Fury. I was mildly irritated by it wandering from its central conceit occasionally, but it's so impressive and fun!
  15. No Man's Sky

Well, for my part, I don't know if the gameplay is going to come together fully (as, yeah, they're keeping a lot of it quiet) but I'm interested in it for the ideas and ambition behind it. Most of the scepticism or negativity I've seen have been on forums and comment threads rather than articles (although I don't read that many gaming sites). EDIT: oh, Ninety-Three, I just noticed that you went back and referenced an article from a year ago. Did you read the ones I linked to, and if so did they sway you at all either way?
  16. I Had A Random Thought...

    very funny, thank you!
  17. No Man's Sky

A couple of really cool pieces about No Man's Sky - sound design and some dev stories.
  18. I Had A Random Thought...

I'm very curious what this story is!
  19. Eggcorns

I have, although I first heard it as "she wouldn't know me from a bar of soap".
  20. I'm biased, obv, but the hacking in The Swindle is really effective. It's a very simple Simon Says game that only has 4 prompts max (and you can upgrade to get rid of most of them) which appear above your head as the camera slowly zooms in on you. So it mimics the sense of (movie) hacking where you suddenly have to stop and concentrate while losing track of your immediate surroundings, but as long as you don't panic it's easy and satisfying. It's a hell of a lot better than pipe mini-games.
  21. Another one: I will sing "For He's A Jolly Good Fellow" instead of "Happy Birthday To You".
  22. I Had A Random Thought...

It was Talk Like A Pirate Day.

Thanks for the apology. It was a) the bit about the Next TIme On, which I always avoid watching because why the fuck would anyone watch those, and sunglasses) yeah, the conjecture, which will likely turn out right and therefore retroactively become a spoiler. Basically, if you had tagged those bits as "re. the next episode and my conjecture" rather than "re episode 6", I wouldn't have read them.
