[Dev Log] World of Blanks: Gunnin' Six
Ben X replied to Super_Jogurt's topic in Wizard Jam 2 Archive
Art looks gorgeous and the idea is very cool interesting rad. Looking forward to this one! -
If you wanted a bit of overlap, you could include the Cailleach Bheur, who is kind of a pagan goddess and (hopefully) the protagonist of my game!

Progress is going very slowly. I'm just finishing off the comic-in-comic today, so I'll have three days (minus sleep and girlfriend maintenance) to do the main story. I've come up with quite a nice little mystery story for it. It won't be too action-packed or branching or lengthy, but hopefully it'll be cute. I just need to limit myself to 5 minutes per panel! I came up with a title that plays on an Elvis song. Maybe I'll stick an Elvis head lamp in there somewhere, like the one in DOTT.

Well, I guess I didn't get far enough to see them fix it, then! That's part of the syndrome - they do build up the characters eventually, it's just that there's a season or two where they're all there not doing much waiting for that to happen.

Please remind me too! The hackbugs are a way off for Tanu, but just getting your hands on a few Warehouse computers and cash bundles makes a big difference, as there's a big step up in pay-out from the slums.- 103 replies

Re. 30 Rock, I didn't like it for quite a while. I ended up watching all of it,but even by the end, I still felt like a lot of the time I was appreciating the clever writing rather than finding it hilarious (it took me until season 3 to actually laugh out loud) but I was certainly laughing more regularly and always enjoying it. It had the ensemble sitcom problem of too many characters with nothing to them at all, all written in the same voice. Brooklyn Nine Nine, Futurama etc - they start off with this group of characters without bothering to actually come up with anything past name and job for most of them. Unlike, say 3rd Rock or The Simpsons, which start small and slowly build up their raft of supporting characters in an organic way. Although my expectations with 30 Rock may have been affected by the (incredibly smug) opening titles including two characters who normally get one or two lines per episode. And honestly, I found Kenneth and Tracy's line delivery pretty irritating throughout. It also took me a long time to find the incidental music anything other than intrusive and overbearing. Basically, if they'd called it The Liz Lemon and Jack Donaghy Show and changed the titles accordingly, I probably would have had a lot more accurate expectations.

There's a post here about how it seems unlikely, but no quote of that nature: http://www.eurogamer.net/articles/2015-12-08-about-that-system-shock-3-tease

Yeah, you can't whack the cameras with your stick. I'd recommend going back up and eking out what money you can until you can afford some upgrades over starting over - you'd have to spend a long long time in the slums to get kitted up enough to be master of the next zone on arrival, and you'll probably improve faster by struggling on Warehouse than by coasting on Slum. Don't expect to beat the game on your first playthrough, and don't worry about wasting days - it's possible to beat the game in 15 days or so (although my shortest is about 60!) and you can eventually buy more days, so even if you have a run of 10 days or so where you earn zero pounds, it's not a disaster.- 103 replies

I loved Kimmy Schmidt but it definitely only hits its stride around episode 3 or 4.
-
I think the former so people who only get a chance to watch the film at the start of the first week don't have to wait a week and end up forgetting their observations and precise opinions.
-
You're not supposed to brush your teeth straight after eating (and I assume this goes for coffee and soda too) because there's acids still on your teeth and brushing them in eats away at the enamel. I think you're supposed to wait 20 minutes or something. Eating straight after brushing is apparently fine, outside of the minty after-taste.

Last time I checked, Amazon had region-based accounts, so even if you used a proxy you'd have to pay for a different account to see their US content.

Which makes it weird that they're sequelising the System Shock franchise rather than rebooting it...

Yeah, that's a bad move because they install cameras in the slums if you go back and the rooms are too small for it to be feasible. Go back up a zone and stick at it. Be careful and don't take risks - you don't need to try to clear every level until you've got enough kit!- 103 replies

What time (and what time zone) does the jam finish, please?
-
The game jam has put a halt to this for the moment, but I'm just popping in to say thanks to eot, thepaulhoey and laco for gifting me Shogo, Allied Assault and some Jedi games, respectively. I did play a bit of Quake 2 before the jam, though, and am not enjoying it as much. It's nowhere near as tight as the first regarding balance, shooting or level design. The gung-ho space marine feel of it is fun, though, with enemies who try to get one last shot at you before dying or stumble around headless for a moment. There's a more coherent though still very shallow story this time, with an opening cutscene which feels more like an engine demo and some irrelevant mission goals. And there's a transit system level! I should probably set up an FPS bingo card - transit system, kamikaze enemies, weapons taken away mid-game etc.

Twig, this is the pedantry thread. Responding to someone's post with 'that is pedantic' is about as useful as saying "I'll get right to it" instead of getting right to it.

Don't worry, JKO confirmed on chat that the correct (and logical) pronunciation is with a hard c.

I mentioned it in the comments, but I couldn't be bothered to tweet them. I wonder if they asked the artist for permission.

Done. Was I supposed to fill in the "last" box, though?

I think we can all see how that image is rubbish. It's pretty infuriating that Eurogamer have posted it as if it's official.

Ice to see you.

Nice!
