I think Kenny Baker said at one point that he knew George didn't need him to be there for the prequels and George knew that he knew that; it was basically for nostalgia/respect reasons rather than practicality.

  4. Comics Extravaganza - Pow Bang Smash!

Yeah, as I said above, Paper Girls is great. WSOG was okay, but seemed a little bit like Vaughan was on auto-pilot. Don't know if you realised (there's probably an intro that tells you this!) but Private Eye was originally intended to be digital only, which is why it's 'widescreen'. As (iirc) TheLastBaron pointed out, the same team are doing another digital pwyw creator-owned comic called Barrier right now - go check out the first ish at panelsyndicate.com. I also am enjoying Universe on that site too.
  5. Comics Extravaganza - Pow Bang Smash!

That pic doesn't strike me as particularly Hewletty but I'd have to dig out my Tank Girl collections for the extras to remind myself what his pre-TG stuff looked like

I just watched Tomorrowland and it turns out she's already made that hat-trick - she plays the mother in that movie for a single two-second shot. It's like she lost a bet or something. As for the film itself, it's got a fair few of interesting ideas and good performances but it's pretty bloated and directionless.
  7. I remember my reaction to Doom 3 and Rage was that a fan edit to cut out all the RPG and backtracking shit would have done wonders for those games.
  8. The Big FPS Playthrough MISSION COMPLETE

I played another big chunk of this and it's mainly a chore. I've got some better weapons now but they all have a long warm-up or reload time. The mission briefing cutscenes are perfunctory to the point of satire: "Go to the warehouse. Locate the weapons. Destroy the weapons." I was interested to see a few more Half-Lifey things like moving laser beams and big weird alien factories. The best new detail is the other space marines you find in prison cells and stuff, driven mad and crawling around babbling. Hilariously, they all have Arnie accents. I think I might move on pretty soon though, because this isn't really satisfying or fun. EDIT: oh god, it seems I've only completed 3 of 10 missions. I think I'll have one more blast then give up.
  9. Gear VR

Are you defining cyberspace in the traditional "notional environment in which communication over computer networks occurs" sense, or using it to mean "anything in virtual reality"?
  10. "Just make sure to sneak into the cinema to watch Cloverfield as there are legitimate reasons to want to avoid paying to see this movie. To clarify the above statement, while I view this movie as a work of fiction, and recommend people watch it as such, many viewers see the narrative as an accurate work of non fiction. If you fall into the camp that view this as non fiction, an aspect of the narrative implies that the content is stolen wholesale from the US military who in turn stole it from the citizens who filmed it. While I paid to see the movie and believe doing so is a morally acceptable action, what I wish to make clear is that if viewers disagree with my reading of the narrative and feel I reccomended them an experience they didn't morally agree with, there is a financial way to avoid completing that purchase. This is not an encouragement to back out of payment due to length, but simply me pointing out that if you finish the movie and believe the narrative to be non fiction, and if you believe that you purchased stolen goods, there is a way to avoid your money remaining with that distributor in this very specific case."
  11. That fan show is impressive! it's pretty funny that the guy running it also cast himself as Kirk. Re. the new Trek trailer, this is great: Wincing Simon Pegg admits he didn't like new Trek trailer either
  12. Life

Well done for taking a look at yourself and addressing these issues. Don't beat yourself up for beating yourself up!
  13. Comics Extravaganza - Pow Bang Smash!

This is excellent, thanks for pointing it out! It's the Spielberg homage that Super 8 went for and missed.
  14. So good to have Thumbs and then Weekend right next to each other in the week!
  15. Star Wars VII - Open spoilers

You don't want to talk about Star Wars VII in the Star Wars VII thread? Can't you use spoiler tags? (Or perhaps this should just be taken as a spoilerful thread now the movie's out.)
  16. Movie/TV recommendations

This is a good point. I probably agree, and perhaps I kind of took the scene's existence for granted as it was made into an early trailer. I just don't think it's confusing, was all i was saying. Anyway, weren't we moving this over to the Trek thread?! Well, enough about Jimmy T and The Beastie Boys. I just saw Ant-Man and boyyy was I disappointed. I think it got given a lot of slack for being an MCU movie. Just full of dialogue and scenes and narrative tricks I'd seen many times before, characters who barely exist (maybe Judy Greer will make the hat-trick by being wasted in a pointless mother role for a Star Wars or Trek movie next!), bullshit busywork and muddy motivations/relationships. I enjoyed the but everything else just washed over me in a wave of bleh.
  17. I Had A Random Thought...

You have only yourselves to blame, then!
  18. Star Wars VII - Open spoilers

Iirc, the droid factory was added with pick-ups after the main shoot was over, because during the edit Lucas felt something extra was needed.

He does it on purpose to piss his step-dad off, surely? It's there to show he's reckless and self-destructive because in this timeline his dad died and he got an asshole stepdad (played by Greg Grunberg!). I like how Chris Pine looks like a young William Shatner if he'd been getting into bar fights since he was 14 and his prettyboy face cauliflowered up a bit.
  20. [Release] Disaster Blaster

This is really nicely put together, very well presented and the physics are solid. I found it really tough but not unfair. Let's just say I'm glad for the commentary mode because otherwise I wouldn't have ever got to see the EOGB! What happened to the GameBoy mode, btw?
  21. Jeff Gone Goldblum

28 points! The only way it could be perfected is clips of the Thumbs saying those words...
  22. [RELEASE] Happy Happy Krampusnacht

This is fantastic, well done! The presentation is great - it looks and sounds gorgeous and all fits really well together. It's also very funny - chasing kids round to that percussion, furiously thrashing your stick. I also lolled when I first found a hiding kid. It's pretty tough (the kids are so fast!) but I finally managed to get a high score of 255.
  23. [RELEASE] Button Frenzy

Very nice presentation! I found it crazy hard, but that's probably mainly because I don't play with controller enough to have the arbitrary letters mapped in my head. Maybe a Super Easy Baby mode could have printed the letters on the controller model? Also I kept getting distracted by the L in the left stick icon and couldn't absorb the directions - but I can see how it's really tough to come up with icons for every button or stick on this controller that don't clash or misdirect! (I also got the menu crashes and the instruction black boxes.)
  24. [Release] Disaster Blaster

Woah, you deleted all your previous updates. You really believe in having a clean thread! [EDIT: oh okay, the dev thread is here]
