  1. Obligatory comical YouTube thread

Obligatory videos? I love the way Alan Moore filmed it in a library, whispering. Brilliant! (Just read The Extraordinary Works Of Alan Moore, btw, v good). D2S-5KP2T8E
  2. Christopher V. Flett - time to grow up

I think it's alright in very narrow topics like this and that other one - it's pretty much what they were created for - it's just frustrating and dull when it spills over into 'youtube' and 'plug your shit' threads, especially when people start throwing insults around. Vimes, start some nice, positive threads! Tanu, if you want a thread to die, don't keep posting in it!
  3. Obligatory comical YouTube thread

Well, all the voices were done by me. It's just a joke leading on from the thread it links to, none of the recording or script is really from any episodes we were writing. Glad you laughed, though!
  4. Should I do it?

I haven't actually tried the version you shared a while back, but another thing that would be cool is if you could tag someone in your post, twitter/facebook style, so if you mention someone in a thread whom you'd like to respond, you can make sure they won't miss your post. E.g. my post fao Nevsky in the 'plug your shit' thread - would be great if I could have typed '@Nevsky' and known he was going to get a little notification next time he logged in, or the thread would be highlighted for him or something.
  5. Plug your shit

I interpreted your response as you intended it, Kingz, although your second crime was to express it rather abruptly, which is perhaps why it's being read as aggressive. EDIT: I have now read the youtube vid thread and have realised that your uncivil behaviour in there is probably also a contributing factor to your post here getting read as aggressive/rude. Ouch. I also like the mix of styles in your webcom. Reminds me of Princess Bride/TMNT. Nevsky, I'll take your silence to mean I can't download your 'cast!
  6. Which one of you...

Yeah, it was mentioned in the podcasts (or referring to them at least) and I think it was posted on the blog. EDIT: Here. It was Xeneth.
  7. Plug your shit

    Can I download it?
  8. Now you people are just coming up with excuses to keep this thread going.
  9. Internet Comics

Very cool! When's the next installment happening?
  10. Yeah, a lot of witty personas on here, unfortunately.
  11. It's alright, we're just playing cruel personas.
  12. Life

I mean, on first reading I thought you meant you'd gone below zero feet of snow multiple times...
  13. I assumed you were just playing the persona of a complete moron.
  14. No, you've misunderstood where the argument is. I think the general stance that people are taking is: YES, Jim Sterling CAN take on an arsehole persona, and that doesn't necessarily make him an arsehole. But a) is it a persona in this case? and even if it is, what does taking on that persona accomplish? This is the act of his that we must examine. If taking on this persona is, for example, for satirical means that serve to highlight, say, misogyny in the games industry or fanboy culture, then great. If he's doing it, for example, to offend as many people as possible so he can get more page visits, then we may judge him differently as a person, even though he may think that it's still okay because "the persona is the one saying things". In fact, even if he was doing it to raise awareness of some issues, if it's done in a way that necessitates hurting the feelings of a lot of people, we may still judge him poorly for the act of adopting that persona. As another example: forum trolls. They come onto forums specifically to start arguments, flame wars, wind people up. Now, they may argue that they're not like that in real life, it's a persona, what they're doing is funny if you 'get it' and it only winds up those who take things too seriously. However, some may argue that if your specific aim is to make some people unhappy and make the forums a generally less civil and pleasant place, then trolling is not worth the lolz and makes you an arsehole even if you don't agree with anything your troll persona is saying. Caveat: I'm not saying any of these things is true about Sterling specifically, I don't read his stuff so I can't say with any certainty. Also, I may be misrepresenting what others here are trying to say. I'm going to have to leave this thread alone now, because it's getting frustrating. Tanu, if you read this post and still find the argument within it bewildering and ridiculous and no different to before, read it again. And again and again until you understand. Then go back and read others' posts in that new light. If you post a reply and find yourself reaching for the scratching-head emoticon, then go back and read everything again.
  15. Books, books, books...

I'd like to read A Christmas Carol at some point, that seems like it would be a good Dickens gateway for me (it won't be as good as Scrooged, though).
  16. Except you think Anna's definitely a childish hypocritical troll, right? WHY DID YOU START IT, THEN?
  17. Firstly, it was misogynist (hating women), not sexist (judging one gender to be superior to the other). Secondly, I think it was more than mild. It defines women by their genitals, as nothing more than Fleshlights, and at the same time objectifies them to the level of handheld consoles. I'm reading it out of context, of course, so I have no idea if Jaffe was being tongue-in-cheek or whatever. But Sterling appears to be taking it on face value and seeing nothing wrong with it, even spinning it to be complimentary and with an underlying moral lesson. (Again, perhaps he's trolling or joking, I have no idea.)
  18. That's coming out as DLC. £50.
  19. I think this is the salient point. Also, don't feed them. I haven't clicked on any of the links in this thread, but after reading everything quoted here I'm going to go with Jim being a misogynist dick, and Anna trying to make that point in a self-defeating way by lowering herself to his level. twmac's story is a good allegory. Btw, I think a good rule of thumb when referring to transgender people is to go with whatever they identify as. If Anna identifies as a woman, it's proper to refer to her as such, regardless of whether she's pre-op, post-op or whatever.
  20. Life

This really confused me at first...
  21. brkl, if you play Gibbage, DnB cameo as zombies which you can gib in the head good and proper.
  22. I don't think we'll be doing any for a while. Possibly we'll take DnB to a new genre, and do a fresh setting for the next one, with voice-acting and that type of thing. Tbh, it's down to Dan as it's his dev studio. I might play around with Game Maker and do some silly freeware games myself, though...
  23. I forgot to quote the bit where Dan said elmuerte has to pay double.
