It got a little cheerier with plus Christmas. But dammit, I want to see the strong, fearless administration they decided a while back they were going to be (let Bartlett be Bartlett) actually happen, seems they're all just feeling impotent and compromising and fucking things up constantly at the moment.

So now that Prop 8 and DOMA are dead, how is the state of gay marriage in the US? Is it basically unproblematic now? I always thought that the simplest solution would be for the government to introduce a system where you have civil partnership and marriage. The former is the arrangement that has legal ramifications and is open to anyone (within reason - the government would still have to check for the greencard grabs etc that they do with marriage at the moment), and the latter is a religous ceremony that has no legal ramifications whatsoever. Then the church can do whatever the fuck they want with their traditions and who can or can't partake in them but meanwhile everyone else is getting equal treatment and doesn't need to care about whether some particular threads of one particular religion will allow them to pay a shitload of money to partake in their irrelevant ceremony. But there are probably many reasons why that's hopelessly impractical, naive and ignorant of the way American politics work.

Well, if we're being picky, "escape" is the motivation.

Well, I'll just go ahead and gauge it by me then I have seen it a fair few times, the ad I remember seeing it in first iirc was something to do with racing down an airstrip or runway and it played in cinemas here too. It also gets used on shitty tv filler shows for montages a lot too. Same as how about 6 months after Pulp Fiction and Kill Bill Vol 1 came out a couple of songs off each got used over and over. What's worst is when other films start ripping off iconic song choices (like that The Rock movie that used Just Dropped In for the slow-mo intro of Billy Bob Thornton's wsahed-up, spaced out character, or how Charlie's Angels used tracks from The Matrix for the fight scenes that it ripped off from The Matrix).

Although that song is brilliant, since Shaun Of The Dead it's been massively overused by unimaginative ad people and the like.
