A Question of Game Design: Associating Sounds with the Passage of Time
Ben X replied to Rxanadu's topic in Idle Banter
Which other threads are those? I'm pretty sure it's not any of the 4 that show up on your profile, at least. I don't know how to answer "what you should have asked about" without being facetious. I'm just saying that you seem to either be asking for noises that represent the passing of specific units of time (to which Tegan gave an answer that everyone else seems to have understood and already explained to you) or a single sound that represents the passing of any amount of time (my attempted answer to which you didn't acknowledge). If it's the former, it's a pretty facile question; if it's the latter or some third option, it would benefit you to clarify. EDIT: Oh man, I just did a more thorough search for examples of me questioning the validity of your threads (of which I found no examples, only me answering politely) and realised you're the person who did the "how do I contribute on these forums" thread, in which someone felt compelled to say to you: Uncanny. -
A Question of Game Design: Associating Sounds with the Passage of Time

Wait, how is this any different to Tegan's example? No sound -> birds chirping = time has passed No sound -> New Years celebrations = time has passed Is this really a thread for people to list noises that things make sometimes and not other tiimes? -

A clock ticking is the obvious one. You could start with it ticking off seconds then speed it up to a very rapid pace to indicate lots of time passing, then slow back down to 1tps when you feel you've portrayed the correct amount of time.. EDIT: I think Teg was being constructive - until I re-read the quoted sentence above, I was going to suggest something very similar! -
Gang, it's really embarrassing in these situations when no one recommends "Ben There, Dan That!" and "Time Gentlemen, Please!" and I end up having to do it myself. Step it up, okay? (Especially as they're at an AMAZING LOW PRICE of only 26 pence for BOTH games on Steam right now.)

Ridiculously good-looking buttocks there, Mington.

Only if you're watching it for the sexual tension.

Hey look, "Gun Monkeys" is 99p (for the now-standard two-copy pack) and the "Ben There, Dan That! Special Edition"/"Time Gentlemen, Please!" bundle is 26p!

Now on PC, scathing review from RPS' John Walker: http://www.rockpapershotgun.com/2013/12/18/wot-i-think-stick-it-to-the-man

Sigh, since I left London I haven't had a library with more than a shelf of graphic novels.

Had you ordered anything from Amazon?

Well, he's mine and Nachimir's, so tough.

Ah ha, tweeted him and got linked to this review which "sums up [his] stance": http://www.page45.com/store/Cerebus-vol-14-Form-Void.html It was the editor's note that I was half-remembering.

[For anyone who doesn't live in Nottingham, Page 45 is an amazing indie comic store, run by Stephen] Hmmm, maybe I'm misremembering it, then. Could have sworn he said something about them being misinterpreted, but I'd never read it so couldn't absorb the statement any more than that. Yeah, definitely. It's only because I know Stephen is not the type to agree with them on face value that I didn't dismiss it as the usual apologist bullshit.

You have solved the wall puzzle as much as you're supposed to -

I never read any of those, but I seem to recall reading a Page 45 newsletter years ago where Stephen said that those essays were largely ironic and/or misunderstood. Does that sound right?

Sweet, thanks, just got that! Game is way too hard for me though. I may just not be dextrous enough.

Yeah, a lot of the comments on that KS update were complaining that she was an "SJW" like it was an objective term. I'd never heard it (don't go into the murky bits of the internet), so I looked it up expecting it to actually mean something specific. The funniest thing about a lot of the complaints is that they go on about how changing Beck to a woman would ruin the Mega Man legacy. IT'S NOT A MEGA MAN GAME, MORONS.

I meant everything else feedback-related (I guess the forums and comments sections would pretty much cover it, though). However, if there's just that one post to go on, it may not actually have happened, right?
-
Was it a backer who leaked her address? If so, and if I were in charge, I'd close down the forums, the comments sections, everything, and just say "this is why you can't have nice things, we're doing this without your feedback and input from now on. You pull this shit with one of us, you pull it with all of us." A lot of decent people get put out slightly (but hopefully would have a sense of perspective about it), but when it gets to this stage I think it's necessary to take that kind of action and the community as a whole needs to feel the push-back; it needs to drag its self-policing up to a higher standard so people don't feel as supported when they do this kind of thing. EDIT: Tycho, do you have a link or anything regarding her address being leaked?

Oh my holy gosh in heaven it's Clint Hocking everybody! Tone Control Ep. 4
Ben X replied to Steve's topic in Tone Control Episodes
Yeah, they're brillo, a fine new addition to the Thumbs horse-bag. Re. animals in FC2, it's a shame that they couldn't have made killing them really boring but keep petting in. Perhaps petting would have made them interesting enough to kill even if the act itself was rendered banal... -
Just in case no one sees the About blurb underneath that video: At least this person had the decency to link to the guy after stealing and editing his video, I've seen at least one other person posting it with no credit given. Check out his version for a clip of his new game at the end. Looks Cavanagh-y.

Really? I can't find anything about that with a quick search, only the bit in Wikipedia about it being named after a play in which it was worn by a female cross-dresser...
