The other thing that stood out to me as non-Original Trilogy was the shiny newness of the stormtroopers. I'm sure Abrams wouldn't let that slip past him, though, so they're probably representative of a new show of strength by the Empire or something.

Yes, agree! I don't think every action sequence in the film is going to be wholly comprised of shots like this, it's a special case to accentuate the move. Plus that gif cheats by ignoring the first bit of the shot.

If it's a choice you pretty much had to make, then there's nothing wrong with it. You're being sensible, not giving up on life. Lots of people find themselves having to make that choice these days; it absolutely can be positive if it's for the best in the long run. Also, I don't know if it's a whole different ballgame in Ireland, but just make sure you're keeping track of your income in great detail, so when stuff settles down, you can send it all off to the tax office and get a refund. I've had to do that over many years as a freelancer - it sucks getting 'emergency taxed'/'basic rated' but at least once the tax year's done you can send all your shit in and get a cheque back for a couple of hundred quid.

Watched the trailer again. Think I was wrong about Ty Burrell. Also as previously mentioned, a lot of the effects, colour coding etc looks relatively bad for such a prestige and visual-effects-history-associated franchise. I'm hoping that stuff is still 'in alpha' and by June they will have polished it all up. I'm also going into "la la la" mode for this now.

This is exactly what they're going to do. If you want any surprises left for you by the time you actually get to watch the film, I suggest you get in the habit of screwing your eyes shut, covering your ears and shouting "la la la la" whenever you see Star Wars mentioned for the next year. I think the trailer has an intriguing mix of really cool original trilogy vibe, exciting new stuff (Abrams camera moves; black, individual Stormtrooper character) and occasional dreadful stuff (the voiceover and the bong-saber). I am now going to follow my own advice above and try to avoid all further SW publicity.

Saga is great, you should definitely get it! I picked up all the non-Buffy/Angel Whedon stuff - so, Serenity, Dollhouse and Dr Horrible.

You know, I'm more interested to see a JP movie with tamed raptors than the usual raptors. We've already had three films almost exactly the same, I'm glad they're going a bit mental with this one. I'm just hoping it's a bad trailer for a good film ...

When Jake said there was one thing that could make this movie good, I guessed he was going to say what I now think is an amazing idea: I assume Jurassic World is still on Isla Nublar (probably due to that piece of artwork they released a while back with the raptor on the old wrecked jeep), though that might be wrong. Tiny, silly nitpick at the episode description: Jurassic World is not a reboot, pseudo or otherwise! It's a sequel! Why is everyone so eager to call things reboots these days?!
