I've playing this over 9 hours already, and it only has 3 cars and 4 tracks. It just seems so good! I'm just afraid of becoming a guy who whines about how the handling was perfect in the pre-alpha and how they ruined it. Also after playing the same track for tens of times, I found a quite well-disguised shortcut in it, so looks like they might plan to make the tracks similar to FlatOut, which had a lot of shortcuts everywhere. The ones I've noticed in this game seem quite balanced -- take a bigger risk to potentially gain a second or so. The AI doesn't take advantage of the shortcuts yet, though.

I was listening to this while reading your post and I'm pretty sure that made it even better!

Yes, the one particular fight in the Flotsam chapter was utterly ridiculously hard the first time I played! But it did actually create an astonishing (in hindsight) situation later on. I have probably mentioned this before but for some reason I just now realized that maybe this could have been intentional... PS

Replayable Narratives: Does Anyone Even Play a Game Once?
Erkki replied to TychoCelchuuu's topic in Video Gaming
I agree completely. Also, thanks for pointing out Sátántangó, I'm going to attempt to view it if I can get my hands on it. Someone mentioned The Last Express as a game that might be replayable, in the responses to The Breton's tweets. I think that's interesting -- I don't remember how much content in it you could miss due to you being elsewhere, but I think there was some of it? The Last Express is a singular game, but if there were other narrative games that were "real-time" with content you can miss just by not being able to be in two places at the same time, I imagine in those cases the replayability and meaningfulness of choices seems rather the same thing.- 41 replies

I watched the 17 minute video and it doesn't seem as bad as people have been fearing (except for the bits where Garret talks to himself). Even if the Jewelry shop is the only way through the level, that ain't so much different from the original Thiefs.

Mojang was only formed when (and formed because) Minecraft was already well on its way to be a huge success. I think how those two games started could not be more different. But I think your point is still valid -- even if Notch went solo again and tried to replicate Minecraft's success he probably couldn't do it. Whether the circumstances wouldn't be the same again or he just would get as lucky with a good idea. Which makes me think back a couple of pages... I also kind of don't like that saying, but then I sometimes use it against people who seem to think that ideas matter by themselves. What matters is having good ideas and doing the hard work to realize those ideas. One without the other is not enough.

Although I don't work in the game industry I also think it's because games are software. Software development is very unpredictable except in the simplest cases where you are doing something that has been already done several times. And even then it still surprises me every time how quickly Ubisoft can release new AssCreed games. Uh, did you just make assumptions about how Irrational worked based on Nate Wells interview about Naughty Dog? I thought that wasn't allowed.

There was an update with a new car (still RWD like the others), a figure-of-8 track and some other improvements. The handling has improved (IHMO) but anyone planning to play this should probably turn off Anti-Spin assist. Also check out some of the screenshots on their blog http://nextcargame.com/blog/ I like the new car (it handles much better especially compared to the smallest car) and the game is starting to seem even more crazy than FlatOut when it comes to crashes, but also somehow more realistic at the same time.

It's probably a spiritual sequel to the Puzzle Agent series. -

Great! Now I just need to buy a turntable and an amp, and whatever goes between a turntable and an amp and I'm all set! Oh, wait, I still need proper speakers too.- 141 replies

The Witcher's heritage is largely on the Baldur's Gate side of the family, I would say. And each game seems to be an evolutionary step towards more modern open world games.

yeah +1 to subbes and SecretAsianMan. if you allow them to associate with your brand you might lose control of the situation. -

Maybe they'll make Headlander anyway? That trailer is one of the best things I've seen this year. I would surely have voted for it had I not missed the beginning of this fortnight.

It did feel a bit short, but I loved it.

+1+ to drinking water! I don't even think it has to be lots. I drank relatively a lot of alcohol last month (helped me quit smoking) and I didn't have a hangover even once. I always drank at least one glass of water before bed and/or between drinks. But I only drank wine & beer.
