The Idle Thumbs Downloadable Content Thread
Erkki replied to Chris's topic in Idle Thumbs Episodes & Streams
Ok I was wrong you were right about the DLC thread. Didn't think the new DLC would be here since updated posts are not shown differently. Man, that rock formation + foliage in the puffins photo looks like something out of a 2D platformer. Maybe it's because of the depth of field effect. -
Wow. Amazing read about the development of Shadow Complex on Gamasutra: http://www.gamasutra.com/view/feature/4119/making_shadow_complex_donald_.php?page=2 Apparently they built the whole game on graph paper first, then built it with the Unreal engine with very basic brushes and the player was just a cylinder. This seems like the right way to do this kind of game, and I guess it shows in the final product.

Also, the--wizard is available, but only Tim Langdell would register that. thewizaaaaard?

Am I the only one or does Shadow Complex remind of Crusader: No Remorse/Regret? The perspective is entirely different of course and the gameplay too, but I think there are some similarities. I never played the full versions of Crusader, I think. That was back in the day where we used to rent crippled (cut-scenes and music removed usually) pirated copies of games from a shady store run by some Russians, at the times when the cops weren't doing a raid there. With the internet and stuff becoming faster, that shop disappeared, maybe also because RENTING some of those pirated games ended up costing more than buying original copies (Blade Runner was 4 CDs and they charged a certain price per disk). (I don't know why I'm purposefully trying to keep two threads about Shadow Complex on the first page)

The All New XBox Gamertag Exchange Thread!
Erkki replied to ThunderPeel2001's topic in Multiplayer Networking
I just sent friend requests to probably most of you (may have missed some). I don't play multiplayer often though, and I suck when I do. But it might be fun to compare scores etc. Although at the moment I'm mostly playing on PC. I'm Villane0 -
Wohoo! It's much better. I still noticed the compression was a bit too lossy, but that's probably because I was specifically paying attention to that.
-
Heh... I just bought both recently before it was on Steam, but still haven't managed to play them.

Yes, this was my second campaign. You indeed lose powerups but keep level. I played on hard the second time and maybe will play on insane again after I give the proving grounds a shot.
-
Yay! got 100% and 100% of the map too. The thing I missed turned out to be one other people had a problem with too, the solution was found on Gamespot forums.
-
Oh, apparently some question marks don't show up if they're in a save room.
-
Damn it. I played for another 10 hours and got only 99% items. No question marks left on the map (and I think getting to level 20 revealed them all). Might there be something I'm missing? I unlocked the secret room before getting the last weapon, could that have caused it?

Wow! 0 A.D. Looks pretty good, is open source, and will be free on Win/Mac/Linux http://www.pixelprospector.com/indev/2009/07/0-a-d/

Just bought C2 (actually, C2+C3 double pack) on Steam.

Found this old thread: http://www.idlethumbs.net/forums/showthread.php?t=3990 Those screenshots you posted, Toblix, make me want to play Commandos 2 right now as well. And Desperados. And maybe Desperados 2.
-
PS. Has anyone played Helldorado? I remember playing a demo some time but can't remember if it was any good. I was thinking of some other game, can't remember the title. Helldorado seems to be a new Desperados game. GameSpot gave it 4.5 (but they also gave Desperados a pretty low score: 6.5) [edit] and they gave Robin Hood 8.6!! Also, Metacritic score for Robin Hood is much more favourable than Desperados. WTF? Shenanigans
-
I actually kind of liked some bits of Robin Hood (but taken as a whole it was pretty crappy). I bought Desperados 2 and despite that screenshot, the game actually plays quite similar to Desperados as far as I remember. For some reason I stopped playing it after a couple of levels, though.

I've not gotten any of the DLC yet because I'd need to replay the game (deleted my saves) and haven't found a time to put those kind of hours into it. Already spent probably 60-80 on it when it came out. Seems like I might eventually get Point Lookout and Broken Steel though. Was one of those the one that rewrites the ending?

Aaaarghh. the worst 10 minutes of my life

Yeah, saw that on youtube. Hilarious

I really loved the good LeChuck as well, and yeah, those transitions by Jake are awesome!

I just played the opening sequence of Screaming Narwhal again and the sound compression issue has definitely gotten much, much worse. I still didn't notice anything in Screaming Narwhal, but every S uttered by the Voodoo lady in the beginning of Spinner Cay is just grating to my ears. This is horrible, is it really worth just to save a few megabytes? Or is it perhaps some other issue, not compression?
-
Finished it in one sitting (the only pause was writing the previous post). Only got stuck once: so wondered about aimlessly, thinking of what more to plunder. Another awesome episode! Keep up the good work, Telltale!
