  1. leaving the thread title like this now
  2. The Idle Thumbs Store

We'll keep trying to optimize shipping costs but that is the cheapest rate we've been able to get internationally right now.
  3. There are other companies which make more extreme ones but this works pretty well at being hilarious and useful. Nels was showing me around our game event management system today, by rolling over and looking at my screen. Was weird.
  4. My friend Jared, who does music and voice work on a lot of Telltale games, had some off time this week and also made a Campo Shanty. A good stoic crew-rolling-through-a-storm rendition. The number (and quality) of covers of this song are incredible.
  5. Plug your shit

  6. Every time we update the forum software it reverts the spoiler code to the collapse/expand one, which was so infuriating/tiring that we just gave up. Everything else is generally so nice, that one stupid thing wasn't worth dying over. But yeah black bars are way better. Or maybe having both? Dunno.
  7. I wouldn't, but my opinion of that game has changed a lot over the years. I still think it's hilarious, but I think it has horrible flow and sags in the back half. All of Tim's LucasArts games have rough patches too but none as long as Hit the Road.
  8. Same. If you've played Psychonauts and broken age my (maybe weird) recommended play order would be Full Throttle, Monkey Island 1&2, DOTT, Grim Fandango. Troll post? Schafer didn't work on that game.
  9. I'm on and off reading the filmcrithulk book on screenwriting and storytelling and he has an anecdote about his friends neighbors audibly cheering or booing depending on whether the sopranos content warning slate listed nudity. I imagine those neighbors didn't like the end of the show.
  10. Post it anyway! Official canon is that the song's traditional melody was never recorded or written down, and probably changed as it passed from ship to ship, so the validity of any particular rendition must be assumed true.
  11. The strange thing is that our mic tests which we recorded minutes before sounded great when played back, but the next day were also corrupted. So I think something happened in the brain of our audio editing software when we were away with all the files open, which caused them to shit themselves when we (surely) compulsively saved the file before closing at some point or something. It is a, so far, untraceable freak accident. The worst.
  12. I am, and like it a lot. I think Chris also watches it.
  13. Destroy Remo's Life in One Easy Step

I hate the word lerp. Lerp and frob.
  14. Whoa they're NES Advantage-LIKES. Weird.
  15. Idle Thumbs 149: A Divine Exodus of Snakes Nick can't give up Hearthstone, Chris is still playing Spelunky, Sean has handcuffed himself to a MAME cabinet and Jake makes some comments about video games. Next week: Idle Thumbs 150. Things Discussed: Hearthstone, Titanfall, Halo 3, Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, Sunset Riders, The Simpsons, 2048, Spelunky Listen on the Episode Page Listen in iTunes Subscribe to the RSS Feed
  16. Server storage isn't an issue - most devs I know just keep their raw audio in wav or aiff format, since most everything (including most engines) can play those to preview them, before compression occurs at build/test.
  17. Jake's Portrait in Danger Sort Of

    "Thanks" you guys!
  18. Actual reading about games thread

Proposed rule for this thread: if you're going to write a take-down of someone else's suggestion, you must offer something you recommend reading in return, AND it must be proposed on its own terms and not in reference to the work you are taking down (so that your referral cannot just become further dumping). I think the problem with the last thread was that it turned into telling everyone why they were wrong without actually offering anything new to the conversation. I used to read a lot of critical writing about games but have fallen out of it over the years, so I'm glad this (and the old thread) exist. I've been trying to get back into it so thanks - it's been helpful to be able to see some reading referrals and why people are referring them/what they get out of them.
  19. Sorry I couldn't make it to this. I was a destroyed person by the end of this week, and noticed the thread too late to account for it hope folks had fun!
  20. Miller/Coors lite/PBR are of such a different consistency and taste than "real" beers that it seems like the answer should be self evident as to why people drink them. They are closer to alcoholic soda than they are to beer, so it's no surprise to see people burn through them in a) long-lasting social situations where one drinks a lot, places where it is hot. Drinking a lot of actually rich beer on a hot day or over a long period of time makes you an even hotter feeling, immediately drunk person, whereas a cold can of Coors is actually refreshing due to being wimpy. Get over the fact that they are both in the beer family, and get over yourselves, because they serve a completely different purpose as an alcoholic beverage than a beer you can be an aloof cool person about liking before someone else liked it.
