Idle Thumbs plays BioShock with JP LeBreton
tabacco replied to Jake's topic in Idle Thumbs Episodes & Streams
Yep, I believe there are some. -
Sorkin left the show after season 4, which I think explains some of that lull.
-
One (potential) strength of this series is that the setting is a lot better suited to Sorkin's brand of "There's some important stuff going on here" gravitas that Studio 60 couldn't really sustain, given that it was about a sketch comedy show. The West Wing was obviously the king of gravitas, because that's what you pretty much have to do if you're going to make a show about the white house. I think given his style, a news show is probably the next best subject.

It reminded me a lot of Sports Night (and not just because the show-within-the-show is called "News Night"). There seem to be a lot of direct character parallels, too, most obviously with Sam Waterson's character mapping very closely to Robert Guillaume's. I liked the first episode a lot, in any case. Feeling a little like a Sports Night reboot is, if anything, a positive. For the curious, looks like HBO put the first episode up on Youtube: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1U4ZhFDFYvE&hd=1

Looks like the code for the emoticon was set to a single colon. I've changed it to

I don't know what that means.

I've tried to pick up Eve multiple times because the concept always sounds so cool. Once I start playing, though, I'm just immediately bored by MMO-ness. "Go to this asteroid and mine it." :/
-
Hmm, not sure why that is. I'll open a support ticket.

Sorry, this should be fixed in Idle Banter now too.

This isn't helping? http://www.lspace.org/books/reading-order-guides/the-discworld-reading-order-guide-20.jpg

If you like a crazy science museum, you might check out the Exploratorium. Also kind of cool is the cable car barn. Also also, maybe consider going to a Giants game? Sadly, looks like there won't be any home games 'til the 25th, but if you're around it's a lot of fun.

I use it to track what I've read and to see what people I know are reading (which is better than a recommendation engine given that I know I have some friends with similar tastes).

Mein Thumbcraft—IdleT Dedicated Minecraft Server

Sorry about that, I forgot new.idlemc.com was a name I'd actually given people, and I removed it when I was cleaning up the other day while adding AAAA records for things. I'll re-add it. -
In honor of World IPv6 Launch Day tomorrow and also because I just remembered to do it, Thumbs should now be accessible over IPv6. Let me know if you run into any weirdness accessing the site. http://ipv6.idlethumbs.net exists if you'd like to find out quickly whether your ISP supports IPv6 or not (for most people, the link will probably be broken).

I don't believe there's any legal mandate toward digital cable. There was one about OTA broadcast going digital, though, and that transition happened a couple of years ago. It's in cable companies' interests to move to digital because a digital channel consumes less bandwidth (in the RF sense) than an analog one, freeing up spectrum on their network for other content.

1% of Comcast's user base is an enormous number of actual users, so I don't think I'd be that quick to sneer at them. Rolling out a change like IPv6 to that large a customer base is no small task, and a sample size of a few hundred thousand users as a test base is a pretty good starting point.
-
Unlikely related to ipv6, but good news anyway

Yeah, this was a crazy enough episode that I was surprised to find out it was the penultimate one. I sort of assumed it was the season finale what with the business with .

Idle Thumbs Progresscast #12: The Progresscast Within
tabacco replied to Jake's topic in Idle Thumbs Episodes & Streams
The Novato->San Rafael commute has gotten *much* better in the last couple of years, but it'll still be a little slow between Lucas Valley Road and the civic center until 8:30 when the carpool lane reverts to being a regular lane. But it's slow traffic, not stopped, so don't let it deter you if you find a good deal up north. -
One server guy is fine if your service is simple. But you need to cover that service with monitoring so that that one guy gets paged when things break in the middle of the night. And the tools to do that are free, so...
-
Mojang should probably learn to use Nagios. "Because the server guy is asleep" is a terrible reason for 4 hours of downtime where no players can login.
-
Pruned (via usergroup change) a ton of old probably-spambot users, so the birthday list should be less crazy now.

Just added it. Still needs a little style tweaking, though, as that front page display is a third-party addon.
