  1. The Big VR Thread

I got a Rift+Touch earlier this week! Woop woop! However, my GTX 960 isn't really up to the task. Some older games with VR support work fine (Assetto Corsa VR is very smooth even on high settings), but newer games like Robo Recall is LAG CITY. So, I'm in the market for a new card. RX 480 looks like very good value for money, or perhaps I'll spend a bit more and get a GTX 1070. What are cards are you using, fellow VR-ers, and how's the performance?
  2. GTA V

Yeah I play GTA Online with friends every so often. The heists are great. The adversary modes are great. The downtime between missions are usually filled with fistfights and madcap hijinks. And after our sessions, I'll often start up the Rockstar Editor and make a video out of some captured snippet of action from one of our missions. Love that replay editor. More games should have them.
  3. Recently completed video games

I completed Outline today, and I have the video evidence right here! Holy shit those last 10 levels are intense. If you would like to try it out yourself you can download it here. It will only cost you 3 dollars and your sanity.
  4. Yup, this. I try to only have 2 or 3 games on my plate at a time, and if I wanna play something else I gotta either finish or discard a current one(uninstalling and putting in the "Done", or "Discarded" Steam-folders). At the moment it's Satellite Reign and The Long Dark for me. And yes, Netflix. I do end up with choice paralysis there. Maybe I need to work out a system for that too. I keep adding things to My List, which then never get watched. I've had The friggin Lincoln Lawyer on there for years now.
  5. [DevLog] Monumental Failure

Bought and played through this today. It's good! Very polished. I think my favourite bits were these sections with the drivable cranes.
  6. [DevLog] Monumental Failure

  8. [Released] A Good One

V1.2, The Suspenders Update, has been released. -added suspenders! -new trees, lots of em, and rocks. -improved lighting and particles. -more details around homesteads. -minor tweaks and improvements.
  9. Come on and stream and welcome to the jam

Good streams! I've barely beta tested my game A Good One, so this was enlightening. Seems I've fucked up pretty badly in teaching the game's systems since noone figured out they should hunker down when going downhill to build up speed. That's kinda the thing that makes the skiing enjoyable, and without it there's... really not much to the game. :/ Working on an update right now, will be sure to include a bit more of a tutorial in the Controls display for the next version. Also probably doesn't help that I don't know the proper skiing-term for "hunkering down". Pretty sure that's not it. edit: TUCK! That's the word I shoulda used.
  10. GOTY.cx 2016

Played The Last Guardian and Duskers. Revamped list. Made video. Soundtracked with some of my favourite Video game soundtrack tunes of the year.
  11. [Released] A Good One

Pullin' sweet donuts on the slopes... That's the tagline I've been looking for.
  12. Yup, totally relate to the too-many-great-games dilemma. I wrote my list over in the GOTY 2016 thread last week, but right now I'm playing The Last Guardian and Duskers and feeling like they should probably be in there somewhere as well. And there's a pile of stuff I haven't gotten around to. Tomb Raider, DXMD, FFXV, that Witcher 3 dlc, Shadow Tactics. TOO MANY GAMES!
  13. [DevLog] Monumental Failure

    Awww yeah! Looking good, Spenny!
  14. Recently completed video games

It's on the other side of the billboard. ¬_¬ Of course, I dunno if it actually stays on there after you leave the area and come back.
  15. The threat of Watch Dogs

I made it through the whole storymode without using guns. Mostly. During that one revenge mission it felt appropriate for shit to GET REAL and so the guns came out. But for the final missions I deffo went all stealth. I mean, I still hacked explosive barrels to explode people, and hacked cars to run them over, but I didn't shoot anyone.
  16. I played 1.3. And I think I had blue win every round. Maybe.
  17. GOTY.cx 2016

Top 8: 8. Inside Beautiful in both it’s looks and it’s gameplay design. There are a few points where the game throws you into unexpected situations, with completely new gameplay parameters introduced on the spot and expects you to just roll with it. And the amazing thing is how intuitive and obvious those moments end up feeling. 7. DOOM Leveling up weapons. Perks. Bonus objectives. Double jumping. Abstract Video game rules like punching a demon gives you health but chainsawing it gives you ammo. There is so much video gamey shit in this, that if anyone had asked me about it beforehand I would’ve said “that does not belong in a Doom game”. I’m glad no one asked me, because all those elements add up to a tremendously fun game. Simply calling it a return to form is doing it a disservice, as it introduces a lot of bold, new ideas into the series as well. 6. Hyper Light Drifter Unlike most of my gamer friends, I wasn’t swayed by the kickstarter trailer. Sure, it looked pretty, but I’ve never really been into these 2D action-rpg fantasy kinda thingies. Picked it up in a sale later on and ended up loving it. 5. Gravity Rush Remastered Superhero games were starting to get a bit stale. Even things like Infamous: Second Son, which I loved, had pretty ho-hum powers. Jumping SUPER HIGH, shooting fireballs WITH YOUR HANDS. It’s just amped-up versions of what you do in regular action games anyway. Gravity Rush, with it’s gravity-shifting mechanic, is unique in concept and the way it plays. It truly makes you feel like a fantastical being with superhuman powers. 4. American Truck Simulator Fixes the only problem Euro Truck Simulator 2 had, which was that it was not set in the good ol’ U.S. of A. This here is finally my trucker dream perfected in video gameform. Behind the wheel of a Kenworth W900, Johnny Cash on the radio, and the setting sun in my eyes as I pull into Tuscon hauling a load of fertilizer. 3. Watch Dogs 2 Not only builds on the formula of the first one, but boldly cuts things out and introduces new elements to make it more than just “more of the same”. Also has the most likeable and interesting characters in a Ubisoft game since Beyond Good & Evil. 2. Steamworld Heist An unexpected delight. Never have I played such a pleasant turn based strategy game. Not even Valkyria Chronicles matches it’s pure… niceness. So nice, I played through it twice. 1. Firewatch This game made me feel things. Honorable mentions: Super Hot - great concept, but it kinda wears out it’s welcome before it’s brief 2 hour campaign is over, and the story is a buncha derivative fluff. Quadrilateral Cowboy - great concept, but the game only really comes into it’s own on the final mission, and then it’s over. Mirror’s Edge Catalyst - open world action game with solid parkour and fighting mechanics. Enjoyable but unremarkable. Dark Souls 3 - the first of the 5 Souls games(yes I’m including Bloodborne) I haven’t bothered finishing. It’s still good, but I think I’ve had my fill of this series. Pony Island - cray-cray in a good way. Deadbolt - fun, but too hard to bother finishing. XCOM 2 - solid game that drove me into fits of rage with it’s random dice rolley bullshit. Dishonorable mentions: Uncharted 4 - one of my most anticipated titles of this year. Well written and acted characters, great graphics, solid gameplay, some great moments of environmental storytelling, and I absolutely had to force myself to keep playing it every step of the way. When I’d dragged myself to the end of it, I felt nothing. Far Cry: Primal - stripped out a lot of the good stuff from FC2-4 and didn’t have anything terribly compelling to replace it with. Unravel - good looks, but dead inside. Still to play: DX Manky The Last Guardian Final Fantasy XV Duskers Shadow Tactics
  18. Took me a while to figure out how to aim with a gamepad, and initially thought the game was broken, before I figured it out. The game seemed to crash after the 3rd interlude in the story mode, the one with the blue truck. After the last line of text, the texts dissapear, the music keeps going but nothing happens. But yes, this looks good, and once you figure out how to play, it plays really well too! Sorry, didn't have anyone to play with so I couldn't give it a proper go.
  19. [Released] A Good One

Full version released! Got all the bugs fixed and even managed to improve game performance quite a bit! Still, if anyone finds any bugs, let me know.
  20. [Released] A Good One

OK. Status update. -Missions and Inventory system implemented. -First person mode added. -Leaning-on-hills behaviour revamped for like the 4th time. It's pretty good now! Not perfect, but PRETTY GOOD! -Ending made. It is complete! Of course once it was complete a host of new bugs reared their ugly head. Such as, running the game on other graphics setting besides the default I discovered that a bunch of the physics code is tied to framerate, causing wildly different physics on lower graphics settings! EGADS! Managed to fix that, but then the menu broke instead. Fixed that too. Curious about what else has become broken instead. Will attempt a full playthrough tomorrow evening, and if no other issues show up, I'll whip up a trailer, a new itch.io page, and upload the full version tomorrow night. edit: Mission interaction screen. That's what's broken now. If I manage to get this damn thing out by Christmas, that will be the greatest miracle of all.
  21. Recently completed video games

Oh my god it's out on iPad? I need to get that. Played through it twice on PS4 already but I could go for thirds. Recently finished: Inside - I loved Limbo. Played through it something like 7-8 times, on 4 different systems. Inside is a worthy followup. Love how it tells it's story entirely through the environment, and it has some great gameplay moments that are unexpected and unexpectedly intuitive. And the ending where you turn into a Katamari Cronenberg is one of this year's most WTF moments. Watch Dogs 2 - Welp, this was great. Great gameplay. Most likable characters in a Ubisoft game since Beyond Good & Evil. The car-hacking is my favourite superpower in a game in a long while. Video evidence of what a cool hacker guy I am:
  22. Rockstar Games presents: Bully

I have GTA VC on the iPad. It's playable with touchscreen controls, but nowhere near as pleasant as playing with a gamepad or kb+mouse. The same is true for pretty much all smartphone/tablet ports of PC/console games. The are exceptions though, allow me to list... My favourite iOS ports of PC games: FTL - possibly even better on a tablet than PC! XCOM - aaaaalmost as good as on PC. Carmageddon - Yeah, I know, weird. I actually played through the whole thing on iPad and enjoyed it more than the PC version back in the 90's. I don't know what to say. The heart wants what it wants OK
  23. [Released] A Good One

Good find, Vasari. Issue fixed, new version uploaded.
  24. [Released] A Good One

v0.4 released, changelog: -whole gameworld now created. -made player's leaning-behviour on slopes better. Or possibly worse. -increase to player's "hunkering down" speed. -new intro narration recorded. -improvements to sounds. Still to do: -Christmas magic. -possibly give the player character a scarf.
