Anyone analyze all the weird noises on the most recent cast?
-
I should post my Tanks soon. I'm super excited about the Survival one because I am very interested in learning procedural generation and roguelike structure.
-
That is a pretty cool idea. They could also if they want split up some of the thematic stuff to keep it from being too pervasive, ie: Team Dot Gobbler, Team Hosts, Team Slyboots, what have you.Not set dogmatically at the beginning, but b/c those convos would be happening in smaller groups they would probably glom on to slightly different things from one another.

I agree, and on this note, I think the reason for it is just that it feels shitty to commit and try to hit a deadline and then maybe have someone more skilled and accomplished than you take as long as they want and just make something that seems incomparably better. I think if people were not free it would be fun to suggest still trying to do it on a deadline, ie a different two week stretch or what have you. And still polish as much as one wants, whenever.

This was my second Wizjam that I was aware of while it was going on, and the first one I seriously participated in. I thought it felt better organized and more visible than before, but part of that might be being a part of the Slack. On that note, I think we should write up some kind of guide to the Slack, because new people A.) couldn't see it at first and B.) might not know how to access the channels once inside. I found the team-building thread impossibly helpful. I literally would not have made a game without my team and I owe everything to them. I am worried that if the jam gets bigger again next year, things might get more confusing. It was hard to keep up with the devlog posts on the forum, but I loved everyone doing them and it did enable some last minute assists from other people. My biggest take-away is that I think we need to keep up the level of accessibility and open-ness. I think the Thumbs were much more specific about the jam this time around and that helped people come on board? I think ensuring that signal gets out there early is good, and that we make sure that people know about things like the relaxed timeline, the team building, and the diversifiers. I found the format great this time around, and I think the Dot Gobbler saturation is fine as long as we don't do it every year. It has weirdly made jam entries easier to show to friends, because everyone knows Pac Man and I can show them where it came from as an intro to the weirdness, rather than "here's a bunch of in-jokes for a show you don't know!" I think trying to have something playable by the deadline should be considered the "spirit" of the jam, but there should be no penalizing and it should be understood that you can continue polishing up to and indeed after the stream. I would love some form of community awards. I understand the fear of introducing competition and I do not enjoy competitive environments overall. But this whole jam I have been wanting to let other jammers know how much I admire and appreciate what they are doing, so maybe voting on some different community awards each year could be a thing. They could be silly titles, kind of like the approach the Steam Awards took this year. EDIT: I have been convinced that this would not be a good idea, and heartily disavow it. EDIT: Looking back over old jams I see something cool we didn't do this year which was having a support tree, ie on the main jam post say "these people are semi-experts in the following fields and you can hit them up for help". The Slack has really removed a lot of the need for this, but it's good to know and not everyone uses the Slack.

Sanata time is good time, good year time. Snow now, darkness.

@Tanukitsune Wait, Oxenfree is not a reference to Olly Olly Oxenfree? That's crazy! What is it a reference to? (I am talking about the rhyme that ends with something like "come out and play..." and can be creepy to hear as a kid in the woods at night). @Ethtrip How was it? It's been on my list, but that list is huge. Worth it?

Amazing! As Ben said, super confident. I felt a palpable sense of growing unease throughout, even with some foreknowledge of the plot and multiple playthroughs. A bunch of thoughts that are all spoilers follow:

Thanks, dear leader! You are a steady and compassionate figure who we knew we could come to for help and with problems.

Our game is up! Still missing a few assets but it shouldn't be a problem. Will polish a bit in the next week. This was my first jam and an incredible experience learning from a ton of talented people. I can't wait to do it again. https://itch.io/jam/wizard-jam-4/rate/101139

A thread to find assets you need, and donate assets that you have. If you've made something cool the rest of us can use, great! If you know where to get some good free stuff, even better! If you know where DB Cooper hid the rest of the money, doubleplus extrabetter! If you want to specifically use assets from a previous gamejam you can leave a message here, DM the person, or more likely ask for them in the #game-dev channel of the Slack! Because of how big the list is, any "tools" or "engines" will be found over on the main announce page for the Jam in time. This is just for stuff that is already made and you can use. If you have any other suggestions, please feel free to reply in this thread. Just a reminder that the Jam will be hosted over at the Itchio. Nice! What are you planning? Each arm you pull causes a Tim Allen grunt?
-
Oooh, nice menu screen!
-
Got half the script in the engine with expressions and queues. Should be easy to put the voice lines in once I get them back. Background art should be ready in time but it will be close. Struggling to get TyranoBuilder to act like an adventure game engine, the inclusions of lots of variables and state checks has finally required getting into it's scripting. Going to finish getting the text and images in first.
-
Wow, I love that concept! Hope to see more!
-
A more dynamic gif!

Whoo, building the thing! Now that I've got a finished script and the actors are looking at it, things are starting to come together! My workspace: Haha, tricked you! You thought it was spoilers but it's the most boring convo in the game!! Anywhooo. The amazing @vimes is still cranking away on the art and character designs after bravely battling a rough illness. Today @mythalore knocked out another great 3D background to get painted on, the between rooms hallway that's going to be a real turning point in the character's relationship. And now there's a gif!
-
Oh wow! I looked away for a couple of days and you have made such a wonderful skelliman! I love how slow and sad they seem!
-
The script is finished!!!! That's all for now. Getting it to the actors, figuring out the cues for facial expressions, etc. It was interesting how much of my original design doc came away when I actually started writing the thing. Some things just don't work, or were unmanageable in our time frame. Pleased with the few puzzles and interactions. Did a "playtest" over Skype with a notepad and telling someone each line from the script and then asking them what they wanted to click on from a list. Worked well!

Well after WJ4 I would absolutely love to.

I'd love to contribute! Feel free to use my profile, etc. The way to tag spoilers is open square bracket, the word spoiler, close square bracket, content, then open square bracket, backslash, the word spoiler, close square bracket. -
Also if folks are asking for copies, we're pretty frequently giving away/trading extra copies of stuff in #giveaways on the slack. If you're not in the auto-invite is broken but you can message zerofiftyone for an invite.

After you finish Portal 2, let me know if you want to do the excellent co-op campaign with someone! I never got to finish it!

Hey guys, I have some questions about building a PC. I'm in kind of an odd spot now. I had an Alienware mini-tower that I picked up a few Black Fridays ago and it's worked quite well. Earlier this year I wanted to get a SSD and up my graphics card. I bought the graphics card on a sale without thinking too much, and....the damn thing was absolutely massive. I could not return it. I was moving and had no time to sell it. I bought the first case I found that was big enough to hold it. When I tried to move everything over it turns out that moving stuff from Alienware is much more complicated than usually, so I took it to a pro. It was fairly cheap and easy, but b/c I rushed buying the case as well I failed to realize that it has zero disk drive slots/bays. So now I have my PC with good graphics card and good hard drive/SSD combo, but it's a Frankenstein case that I can no longer chuck in my backpack, can't play DVDs in, low on RAM and the processor is not very good. So! I'm thinking of buying a new processor and some RAM and moving all this to a smaller case, hopefully finding a buyer for the graphics card and getting a smaller version. I've been told that buying a new processor basically means buying a new motherboard, ie buying a whole new computer. What's the best way to approach this?

[RELEASE] A Very Pretty Pipe Dream: procedural pipe photography shooter

Hmm, I wonder if in the spirit of the WJCU the judges could be voxn's Hell Hosts from A Divine Exodus of Snakes?
