We have waiters on unicycles!!! Happy Screenshot Saturday
  2. [v2 - The Dab Update] The Eyes of Cheatin Hitman

After a lot of work Sunday, I finally have a camera that will somewhat force players to watch their hand animations while they are active. Mirror's Edge cam :D. It's going to hard to do anything in the next two weeks other than make new FP hand animations.

Not only do we have boats, but we have fishing, and Agent 47 throws them all back to be caught another day.

  7. [v2 - The Dab Update] The Eyes of Cheatin Hitman

!!!2017 Update!!! Hey, I'm still working! Our buildings are textured, we have a lot more clown audio recorded, we have a lot of clown costumes now, and most of the props are finished Also, Nate has done a killer job on the mood lighting! I'm saving most of the progress we've made on the buildings to surprise players on their first Episode 2 playthrough - this game is not heavy mechanically, so it'll rely a lot on the player's first impressions exploring the unique 3D spaces and clown conversations we've created. I'd say that in the month since the jam has ended I've spent 70% of my dev time on one stupid spline tool (that I use for camera movement, NPC movement, vehicle movement - pretty much everything) and 30% on actually building The Eyes of Cheatin Hitman. And of that 30% of game development time - most of it has gone toward increasing scope and making brand new things... like this boat! We have boats now and I'm struggling to convince myself there's a good reason for it. I need to spend the rest of the time before the Thumbs stream working on the original game - so this is a message to myself to stop adding new features. I'm worried I won't finish, despite giving myself plenty of extra time. Here's a gif of Agent 47 swinging an axe; this animation will be in the game. Here's an animation of the player discovering their hands for the first time. I really want to put this into the game in first person, but I haven't modified the First Person Drifter controller to pause control to play scripted animations yet... Agent 47 will be able to pick up some things: And hopefully throw them: Those animations are fun in 1st person Also, in hindsight I'm bummed that Episode 1 featured so little of the art/animations/props we'd created to that point - probably less than 30%. My teammates - Steven, Spence, Nate, and Bradford, all worked really hard for those first two weeks to make things, and then I shelved them for Episode 2. All of the original art and more will be in the final game, and I think it'll be a fun thing But I do wish I had found an organic way to show off their work earlier. In summary, wish us luck slamming all of this silly stuff into something cohesive. This has been the most fun I've ever had on a game project (except for the 5 minutes when I recorded Luigi singing Hotline Bling). Woot! Wizard Jam 4!!!
  8. GDC Meetup

I stumbled into a Train Jam ticket and a GDC Indie Dev pass, but I am entirely new to the professional game development community. Will any Thumbs fans be on Train Jam or at GDC, and if so would you like to meet up? I'm really excited to be attending both and I'm hoping to polish up a short demo level before I arrive for a new project.

  17. [v2 - The Dab Update] The Eyes of Cheatin Hitman

Episode 1 Release Thread Episode 1 - The ICA Training Facility - of The Eyes of Cheatin Hitman is now available Episode 1 includes the draft introduction cinematic followed by a free roam around the ICA mock-up of the International Clown Hall of Fame. The mock-up facility is full of hologram machines where 47's handler will fill her in on the latest intelligence. Our development focus will now shift back to Episode 2 - Baraboo - but we'll continue to update the training facility with props and holograms as ICA intelligence of the facility and event improve. Add the game to your ITCH collection if you'd like to receive updates when we make improvements.
  18. [v2 - The Dab Update] The Eyes of Cheatin Hitman

ha! Thanks, Travis Here's the hologram machine I've wasted my time building to explain the different rooms to 47 during the Episode 1 training mission. I wanted to put in something more than just a plain audio track. lol, I think it's pretty silly.
  19. [v2 - The Dab Update] The Eyes of Cheatin Hitman

Here is the final trailer for Episode 1 of The Eyes of Cheatin Hitman - to be released by tomorrow morning
  20. [v2 - The Dab Update] The Eyes of Cheatin Hitman

The Eyes of Cheatin Hitman Episode 1 - The ICA Training Facility I didn't know what to call this first release - Early Access? v0.1? Episode 1? The Eyes of Cheatin Hitman will not be released in full by my 10pm Wizard Jam 4 deadline. Instead, we will release Episode 1 - The ICA Training Facility by jam close. We will release Episode 2 - Baraboo in a week or two when we've pulled it together. We are creating a game a bit bigger than I had time to pull together, and one that is a linear narrative experience. Most of the jokes and gameplay rely on pacing, surprise, and suspense, so rather than post an unfinished and ineffective version that might detract from a second playthrough of the polished level, we're stripping most of the audio, cinematics, and NPCs out and letting players familiarize themselves with the ICHOF facility. Episode 1 will still have original content and conversation, and we're going to try our best to make it a worthwhile 2-5 minute prologue to the full-featured Episode 2. lol - writing a release delay announcement makes me giggle, but I'm going for it anyways Can anyone tell me, have we had an Episodic Release Schedule diversifier yet? Can I call it the Telltale? (or the IO Interactive, since Hitman does it too). Episode 1 will post later tonight - we hope you enjoy its brevity.
  21. [RELEASED] Cheatin' Hitman

lol, holy cow this looks great!!!! I can't wait to play
  22. [v2 - The Dab Update] The Eyes of Cheatin Hitman

Thanks, all. Here's the most recent progress.
  23. [v2 - The Dab Update] The Eyes of Cheatin Hitman

I had a productive afternoon, I think. I wanted to do a mission briefing cinematic like they do in the Hitman games - they're mostly slow pans over static characters. I was planning to have hard cuts between shots of different characters, but setting up the timing and event systems was going to take me a bit of time. Instead I decided to leverage a spline tool I had created for a project I tried to help @BigJKO with a while ago, and I turned my spline into a camera track. Now I have my intro cinematic structured kind of like a roller coaster ride, with the camera spiraling upwards from static scene to static scene. The draft is sloppy - I'm still getting used to the motion, but attached is a screenshot of the spline in my game, and linked is a youtube clip of about half the draft intro. I'm happy with the direction it's heading and I think that if I get the timings down and add text and simple graphics as a UI overlay, I could have a neat little intro sequence (which could also be converted straight to a trailer!!! - That's what IO does for Hitman). I plan to use this spline camera track for my outro as well
  24. [v2 - The Dab Update] The Eyes of Cheatin Hitman

Thanks! I followed this tutorial step by step, and after 2 or 3 restarts I got a model with bones I can drag around. If I were to start something from scratch, I bet it'd take me weeks to have any idea what I was doing again. I have a unicycle model from Spence waiting to be animated, but I'm too afraid to add bones and try to connect it to a clown lol. It'll be a final touch, or maybe something that goes in post-jam
  25. [v2 - The Dab Update] The Eyes of Cheatin Hitman

I needed a bunch of static poses, so I made them each as separate keys in a single animation. When I was finished I hit play to see what they'd look like smoothed together. I call this The Dance of the Magicians Guild.
