  1. Idle Streaming Community: Twitchy, Tasty

I borrowed a capture card from my friend and streamed a game from my Wii U for the first time today! I had a bunch of audio issues initially since getting video across was pretty straightforward, but the audio component wasn't quite as straightforward. ALSO I don't recommend using the same monitor to both play the game and manage the stream, haha. I brought my TV into my tiny bedroom to play on but I later tried to see if my laptop could handle a stream and I think it's up to the task, so I think I'd rather go with that. My motivation for streaming my Wii U mostly stems from the fact that hardly anybody has one and so I want to expose more people to some of the cooler games I like on the console. I streamed some Xenoblade X today for about two hours, wherein I immediately realise that the combat is completely impenetrable for anyone who is new to the game. I hadn't played in about half a year and I was definitely kind of shocked with just how full-on it is for a viewer. Anyway the VOD is here if anyone wants to check it out: https://www.twitch.tv/superhiero/v/112797454
  2. lol this is perfect. I still haven't watched the most recent 10 hour long megastream...I just know at some point in it he decides he needs 50 strength for a hammer??
  3. Hey miffy, which region do you play in? For whatever reason, Blizzard decided it was a swell idea to segregate your friend lists according to region, even though anyone is free to just swap regions to play on any of them. This thread is mostly quiet because a large majority of Overwatch chat in the thumbs community happens on the slack server.
  4. Twitchy, Tasty: Twitch Team

At this point we have a pretty robust network of thumbs community members all auto-hosting each other. The only thing we need now is to have the larger community actually watching us
  5. Been without good Internet for a few days; thank you all for uploading these clips, one day I need to go back and watch everything I missed! Stay cawing Kyir

Actually badfinger said he would just continue to stream on his old channel (and he did in fact stream from that channel a couple of days ago) because he's still got more followers on it.
  7. I decided to send you a message instead of just replying here for some reason, but I'd be happy to help as an admin
  8. While StarCraft Brood War tournaments in Korea did disappear for a few years, I believe its player-base in PC Bangs (Korean net-cafes) was always larger than StarCraft 2. StarCraft 2 has kinda imploded in on itself in Korea, with the only source of tournaments now being the Blizzard-funded GSL, after the discontinuation of the long-running Proleague and SSL, but also smaller online cups, one of which, the Olimoleague, recently partnered with Twitch Korea to produce a studio-broadcasted monthly finals following the regular online weeklies. Anyway, so the GSL was bought out by AfreecaTV, a Korean online streaming platform, where players like Flash and Jaedong continue to have thousands to tens of thousands of viewers. AfreecaTV started up a new Brood War league, the ASL, which is streamed on the same channel that the GSL continues to be streamed on, so it's pretty great for someone like me who enjoys watching both games. Also I checked out Catacombs of Solaris and whoooaaa man it's trippy. I probably won't spend very long on it, but, neat!

You really have to kind of detach the idea that it is your own voice when you are reviewing your speech. Artosis, considered by many to be the most eminent esports commentator, often talks about how he too hates listening to his own voice, but it's his job so he has to pay attention closely to how he sounds and presents himself. It's harder than most people realise!

That would be lovely if the Thumbs folks could set that up! In the meantime I'm streaming some co-op StarCraft 2: https://www.twitch.tv/superhiero/
  11. This is actually perfect. I love how the Internalization pre-emptively goes up momentarily, then starts to plummet as the votes started going in after he died!

Yes! Lunarcat you spoke very naturally as you were playing, which is something I struggle to do, even when I am no preoccupied with a game in front of me
  13. Lost Sinner only took me 2 tries; I think like Capra, most of the difficulty in that fight is arbitrated by the conditions of the level that you fight her in. She didn't give Nick that much trouble either; he mostly had issues getting to the boss in the first place because he kept forgetting to send the elevator back up. But anyway Nick's actually not a newcomer to the series anymore. I feel like chat still treats him as one for the most part though, I wonder why.

Nice to catch your stream too there were some audio balance issues that need to be sorted but that goes for literally every stream under the sun. Not being able to actively check audio during a stream, and having to depend on warm/cold feedback from chat is bleerggh. Also yeah a slack channel could be good since I think people are starting to become more active about it. I think anyone can make a channel in the thumbs slack so I'll go ahead and make one now. Also twitch and discord has a cross-link thing that shows your status as streaming in the discord user-bar.

Hurray I'm your first follower I'm Australian too so it'd be nice to hear a fellow accent
  16. Hey Thumbs, Nick mentioned StarCraft 2 has a new co-op Archon feature, which is true! But what it also has is a separate 2-player co-op mode where you play a rehashed campaign scenario that has been tweaked for co-operative play. This is one of my favourite new things in the game, because it lets you use the over-powered campaign units and abilities in a multiplayer setting. This mode is actually free-to-play with 3 starter commanders, and more commanders are unlocked by either purchasing the Legacy of the Void stand-alone expansion, or individually for US$5. The Archon mode that Nick mentioned is unfortunately quite sparsely populated, and finding balanced opponents might be difficult, so streaming it might not be successful, but the co-op mode is really fun and you guys can fall back onto it if Archon doesn't pan out. Also since it's not player-vs-player, I think it's more suited to the chill stream environment like we're used to.
  17. Nintendo 3DS

I often attend Smash Bros tournaments, so I still get heaps of streetpass there. Otherwise I never really got many streetpasses unless I went to a gaming event like a con or a tournament. Maybe a handful in the city. Find your nearest local Smash tournament and lurk there for streetpasses, I guess
  18. Nick, in-between beating Dark Souls 1 and starting Dark Souls 2, can we please have a social eating stream?
  19. Modest Tech: The NX Generation (Nintendo Switch)

More Switch rumours! http://letsplayvideo games.com/2016/12/report-nintendo-switch-dock-increases-performance-not-via-extra-hardware/ So the USB-C dock allows the Switch to perform at a higher clock-rate by giving it more power, allowing it output at 1080p as opposed to the handheld screen which is 720p. Supposedly a fan in the dock cools the Switch while it is at the overclocked speeds. Also a separate rumour also reported by LPVG that Dark Souls 3 is running at an acceptable framerate on the Switch, and FromSoft is considering re-releasing the trilogy, across all platforms.
  20. Nick promise us you'll never do that again :'( Good night sweet prince.
  21. This is probably my favourite Pokemon game ever. There are so many small quality of life changes like being able to heal a status condition for free after a battle, choosing whether to keep a captured Pokemon in your party or send it to the PC box, showing which moves will be effective or not in battles against Pokemon you've met before, etc. SO MANY positive changes! The characters are also way better written, which makes the increased number of cutscenes actually enjoyable, or at least tolerable. I think if you liked Pokemon in the past and haven't played any in a while, you definitely ought to pick this one up, especially since they deliberately take the original Pokemon and put a new spin on them in this region.
  22. Idle Thumbs Streams

At your current trajectory, I want to say you're maybe 1/4 of the way through Dark Souls, BUT given the way you absolutely blitzed through the Depths, maybe things are looking up for you and it'll only take you ~20 hours more instead of 30. It also depends on whether you find more optional bosses or the DLC.
  23. For real though that was one of the most fun twitch streams I've ever watched! Can't wait for your reaction to Blight Town, frame-rate issues permitting (this area is famous for shitty performance, at least on consoles)
  24. That Dark Souls stream killed me. I am dead now. Kyir is dead. Problem Machine is dead. We're all dead.
