  1. Rocksmith

Hey all! I apologize for the pseudo-necro, but Rocksmith 2014 launched for PS4 and XONE today! I cannot recommend this game enough, and not only is it super rad, it is now Jimi Hendrix-rad as of Dec. 16th, 2014. You might ask "Hey aprettycooldude, are you employed by Ubisoft?" and I will go "No, but you can bet that I've been dying to play a non-terrible-custom version of 'Red House' since the original RS launched."
  2. Idle Thumbs Steam group and ID exchange

http://steamcommunity.com/id/theonetruejmd Also in my sig! Sometimes I play PC games. The PC games I play vary!
  3. MO MONEY MO THUMBS - PAYDAY 2

Just bought this sucker based on that Thumbs Rec. I probably won't be able to play until the weekend (moving!) but I will be Hell Of Game to get some of this in to destress from unpacking.
  4. Pokémon Omega Ruby and Alpha Sapphire

Yeah, dang Tropius is super common. I haven't seen a Skitty, but sounds about right. ALSO LEAVE ME ALONE
  5. Pokémon Omega Ruby and Alpha Sapphire

Played through the Demo ten times (after which point the game stops counting and just goes 'I feel like I've seen you more times than I can count or some nonsense), can confirm the following transfers after the "main quest": - Glalie (w/ Mega Stone) - 10 Poke Balls - 10 Heal Balls - 5 Heart Scales In addition, you can keep playing, and apparently there's something new once a day, which is some weird incentive to get you to run through it once a day. The quests past that point seem to be randomly generated (e.g. go to <insert island> and find <insert pokemon>). In addition, I'm trying to figure out exactly which Pokemon are present in the demo. Insofar as I can tell, you (the player character) will *always* have Glalie, Blaziken, Sceptile, and Swampert after Mission 1, which gives you the option of Combusken, Grovyle, or Marshtomp (you won't get those as an option again). In addition to those four I've seen Volbeat, Shroomish, Swellow, Numel, Toriyama, and two other I can't remember (Sharpedo and Houndour maybe?)
  6. Pokémon Omega Ruby and Alpha Sapphire

Yeah I haven't run across any Triples or Rotations in the OR/AS demo yet. (also, to be 100% honest, Black/White was when I stopped playing until X/Y :/) Sky Battles I don't mind - they're limited and goofy - but Horde Battles are the literal spawn of Pokemon Satan and I want them to die in a fire. The stuff you get to transfer is mostly inconsequential so far outside the Glalie; it's Potions and other consumables. The Glalie is definitely the big one, and I think between that, the Gamestop Diancie promotion going on right now, and transferring Pokemon from X/Y (don't make it be via Pokemon Bank Nintendo, please) OR/AS is going to be a pretty quick march to endgame.
  7. Pokémon Omega Ruby and Alpha Sapphire

The demo is a bunch of small weird mission things; the first one doesn't have a gym, but has you go up against some Magma/Aqua goons. They're seemingly designed to teach you what's going on with the New Pokemons if you haven't played a Pokemon in Many Moons, so it might actually be right up your alley.
  8. Pokémon Omega Ruby and Alpha Sapphire

Got my demo code! Sure is Pokemon (I don't the demo really gives enough to say anything other than that), but the addition of TIP TOEING makes this game a shoein for GOTY Edit: okay, that might be generalizing a *little bit* too much, I'll give some way too detailed thoughts UI/Visual Presentation: Good - Walking environments are largely unchanged from what they looked like in X/Y. This is good! X/Y looked great in that regard. - Flight views/shots are nice as well; the terrible overhead shot of the garden in Parfum Palace is not indicative of how overhead shots will be in this game, which was my immediate fear while replaying X/Y after the OR/AS demo announce. - The new evolution screen is great! There's a nice pizzazz there that I dig, and it seems less "strobey" than X/Y's evolution screen. Bad - Oh my *god* the buttons in battles are hideous, please get rid of that jagged nonsense. Alternately, give the player choices to change how the bottom screen buttons look, because that BAM POW COMICS AREN'T JUST FOR KIDS ANYMORE style makes me want to vomit Combat Mechanics - Sure is Pokemon, not a lot changed from X/Y here, at least not that's visible on Playthrough 1 of the demo. That's not good or bad, because the core concept of Pokemon battles has been the same since Red/Blue/Green, and Double/Triple battles haven't changed since... whenever those happened (Pearl/Diamond?) All The Other Stuff Good - Dialogue, actually? "Can you see all this midriff" had me chucklin', and the Groan Worthy lines were not as bad as they've been previous. - Character design is nice! Aqua/Magma hasn't changed much, but the Aqua Pirate design remains my favorite Bad Guy design in the franchise. Bad - THOSE GODDAMN BUTTONS I SWEAR UGGHUGHH
  9. Bayonetta

Bayonetta 1 is pretty liberal with the curses as well; Rodin drops a *bunch*, and Bayonetta still has that "f**k off" attached to the ends of certain combos. And yeah, the games are nuts. The Bayo1 intro is still stellar as well. Also what *is* it with Japan and Fly Me To The Moon? I swear it crops up in all sorts of Japanese media and has since... well, the 80s? I remember it most vividly with Evangelion, but it's here in Bayonetta, and I know it's a common tune in a bunch of other things (Wikipedia focuses solely on the heavy use in NGE and Bayonetta, but I *know* I've heard it elsewhere).
  10. The Nintendo Wii U is Great Thread

Not really, but you'll have the classic dilemma of "the controls are better in 2 and now 1 is harder to stomach ugghghh" We're not talking Uncharted 2 to Uncharted 1 level, which I think is the best "modern AAA" example (THAT MANDATORY SIXAXIS GRENADE TOSS), but it's still a little wonky in comparison. If you're planning on taking a decent enough break between the two, I'd say do that. Bayonetta's plot is Classic Kamiya, which is to say it either can be summed up in about two paragraphs on Wikipedia, or overanalyzed to death. You won't be missing much by way of that, but damned if both 1 and 2 aren't just crazy fun action games. IN SUMMATION Play 2. Do it, do it, do it.
  11. Nintendo 3DS

My brother got Fantasy Life and I borrowed it and played for a bit. He loves it, but he's never been an Animal Crossing or an MMO kid. I have a Problem when it comes to both of those things (the limited edition Animal Crossing 3DS XL will attest to this). I'm not digging it? I guess it's a blender of games I like (Animal Crossing, FFXIV), but since it doesn't do either of those nearly as well as the individual games do, it ends up just falling kind of flat. The investment is too high on the Animal Crossing front (more dailies than just "water your stuff, check the store, check your trees, done"), but the payoff isn't as good as the time you get from dailies in FFXIV. I dunno. It feels like an MMO with no drive - no real reason to keep coming back - and that bugs me.
  12. Nintendo 3DS

Yeah that is pretty much Peak WayForward. Simultaneous "Ugh" and "Of course."
  13. Destiny

Gosh that is excellent; I'd love some goofy Portal "slingshot from here to here" mechanics. Would provide a nice mixup to "go here, shoot, go there, shoot." Maybe it would get people to stop complaining!
  14. The Nintendo Wii U is Great Thread

I think when I end up compiling a Goaty list the Wii U is probably going to dominate. MK8, DKC:TF, and Sm4sh are shoo-ins, and Bayonetta 2 is likely to make the list as well. I still pick up Shovel Knight from time to time, but I don't think it'll end up being top 10.
  15. Destiny

Oh, also I'm getting inked again this Saturday from noon to probably 5 or 6pm Eastern. I dunno how long the raid takes but JUST FYI
  16. Destiny

So two questions then 1) When does the Raid reset? (edit: it's tomorrow, I checked bungie.net) 2) Who on PS4 wants to throw down this week?
  17. The Nintendo Wii U is Great Thread

ZombiU (ughghgghh) is supposed to be (and is, let's be honest) the best game that showcases how the GamePad can be used in unique and cool ways. That said, the best use of the GamePad is Off-TV play sooooooooooooo
  18. Destiny

I dinged 28 this weekend! Or more specifically Sunday night. WHO WANTS TO RAID
  19. Destiny

I find personally that I only enjoy watching videos of end-game content I never plan to run; the "know the raid or don't waste our time, watch a video first, etc." mentality that permeates MMOs nowadays stings a bit. Figuring something out with friends, or being walked through by friends when I'm blind, is far more enjoyable for me. I've heard VoG is at its best when you go in with a group of mostly-new folks, but I haven't run it yet. That said, I am 100% guilty of sort-of-spoiling the final boss and the mechanics therein while watching some streams at work. I've tried to steer clear since, but I have some comprehension of that final fight.
  20. Destiny

If I can grab exactly One Zillion helium filaments tonight (maybe!) and level up my gear to 27 or 28, I'd be game to start raidin'. I'll also be around 8pm-ish eastern tonight.
  21. The Nintendo Wii U is Great Thread

Yeah absolutely do not read the comments on that Polygon review. I know "don't read the comments" is a general rule, but especially avoid them on that game, since Arthur points out - correctly - that sexploitation aspect of the game detracts from the otherwise enjoyable nature. That said, good lord that demo sold me. Tight controls, wacky-as-hell (pun... sort of intended?) attacks and gameplay, and Witch Time is something I didn't know I needed but YO I NEEDED IT
  22. Super Smash Bros. (Spoiler: Snake Kills Ganondorf)

I'm feeling like certain Amiibos for characters who aren't in Mario Kart 8 will add them to Mario Kart 8 (esp. with Link showing up already). Wii Fit Trainer clearly has to be implemented with Wii Fit U, but I have *no idea how* (you can create a custom routine, tie it to WFT, and then use that to transfer your profile if you go to a friend's house and... play Wii Fit U?). Big ol' WHO KNOWS
  23. Destiny

26 is the level attached to it, so level 24 players would be operating at 50% damage I learned last night trying to run the 28 Heroic Weekly Strike as a 26 that operating on 50% damage is Not The Best. A mix of 26s and 27s would probably be the optimal challenge/fun ratio.
  24. Destiny

Six person fireteam, yeah. That tends to be what's recommended as well, although I learned courtesy my friend Brian last night that apparently some people ran it as a three person team (!!!). Level 26 minimum, 27 or 28 preferred, yadda yadda, it's an MMO raid
  25. Super Smash Bros. (Spoiler: Snake Kills Ganondorf)

Default scheme, tap jump off, heavy outlines = life I think the problem with tilt up to jump is that 90% of the time I end up jumping (duh) instead of doing an up tilt; I had the same problem in previous Smash games, but the Circle Pad I think somehow made it more pronounced.
