  1. Other podcasts

Also, since I got thinking about this, I also have to mention that I have a strange love for Pistol Shrimps Radio. Basically, the Pistol Shrimps are a basketball team in this LA recreational women's basketball league. The league used to not have enough interest to operate, but a number of women in the LA comedy scene basically drummed up enough interest to get it running. Gourley and McConville record themselves doing play by play for the team's rec league games. The good part is that they have the Sports Announcer voice down pat. The bad part is that they know very little about the game of basketball, sports in general, and don't have even basic information about players on any team that's not the Pistol Shrimps. The episodes are basically just an hour of Gourley and McConville bouncing off each other (and occasionally talking about Dire Straits) while making a poor attempt at doing commentary for rec league basketball games, but I really enjoy listening to it. It's supremely dumb, but in the right way.
  2. Other podcasts

There have been mentions for a bit that he's going to stop doing these in "the monthly format" after episode 50. That sounded less like there'd be a new host and more like "we might do occasional one-offs". But I really have no idea. Speaking of Dead Authors, I finally got around to listening to the Mark Twain episode last night. Oh dear. Matt Gourley and PFT are really an incredible duo. (Also, I can't believe that there is somehow now two podcast episodes featuring those two talking about Push, The Talking Trashcan.)
  3. The Witcher 3: What Geralt Wants

I'm basically doing everything. I'm at the tail end of the game, my list of secondary quests is basically down to the Gwent playing ones (never got into Gwent), and I have 1 level 35 Witcher contract left. I've also cleared all the question marks on the main area and White Orchard. I've got a ton of them left in Skellige, but most of those are in the water or on tiny islands, so I don't think I'm going to mess with those. The main land masses in Skellige, though, I got all the question marks there.

God, the second part of the L. Ron Hubbard Dead Authors Podcast is so great.

Having now watched all the videos, I kinda think this is it.

In addition to that, it also mentions
  8. Movie/TV recommendations

Catching up on the thread a bit, I was on the road last week and ended up watching movies on my plane flights. Finally got to Nightcrawler, Ex Machina and The Raid 2. I can't say enough good things about Ex Machina. Holy crap. And Nightcrawler is a fascinating watch. But I really want to say something about The Raid 2. The Raid 2 is an interesting contrast from the first movie. It's really fascinating at how it gets blown out to 150 minutes while it seems like that ratio of action to not action has drifted away from that whole compact action thing that the first film had going on. Not to say the action is bad (because it's still really good), and even the plot stuff is better than the first film, but I feel like there was a real sense of momentum that the first film had, something it shares with it's weird doppleganger Dredd or Fury Road, that is lost in the expansion. I've not been watching the weekly program, but I did watch the most recent major event, with that incredible Sasha Banks vs Becky Lynch match. I really do need to get in on watching that more often. However, I've got my own weird incursion back into wrestling. I've been watching Lucha Underground, and that show is kinda amazing. They've gone with the direction of making their backstage segments way more telenovela, and are embracing some pretty ludicrous things, but it's working really well for me. And it doesn't hurt that their in-ring stuff is also top notch. They have somehow produced, over the last few months, an excellent Casket Match and an excellent Iron Man match, and those are pretty much always handicapped by their gimmick. Part of what makes it work is what you mentioned about NXT, the 1 hour length. They also do smart things about having most matches stay within a segment instead of flowing over commercial breaks, and placing the break smartly when they have to add them. The short length also makes it impossible to touch on every story every week, but they do a good job spacing things out and avoiding having any one element dominate shows week in and week out. The only total constant on any show is Dario Cueto, and he does an incredible job as the dangerous slimeball boss.

Carolyn Petit has a good tumblr entry on how that joke flails and is little more than reference humor. http://carolynpetit.tumblr.com/post/122456514110/based-batman
  10. What can you tell me about Seattle?

Speaking at least for myself, it's more because Dallas is an extraordinarily cheap place to live, so even if Seattle is just average, that's a real increase.
  11. What can you tell me about Seattle?

Edit: Grr, quote button is not edit.
  12. What can you tell me about Seattle?

I'm actually in the Seattle area for business right now (stuck out in Bellevue), coming in from Dallas. Ditched the organized dinner last night to go catch a Mariners game and get to see some of the city proper, and now I'm right there with you.
  13. Steam Summer Sale Spendapalooza

I didn't end up getting much in this sale. I got: Door Kickers Westerado: Double Barreled Grow Home
  14. Steam Summer Sale Spendapalooza

It's a pretty disposable thing, because it's a thing where there's really X sequences in the game, but it's a real cool experience while it lasts. It's just a mess of poking buttons and trying them out, trying to decipher these scrawled and cryptic notes. It's cool to puzzle out the solutions, but once you've done that you're pretty much done. Actually, that's kinda a game I worry about Steam refunds on, because I think I finished all the endings in under 2 hours.
  15. Steam Summer Sale Spendapalooza

Please, Don't Touch Anything is $2.50 . That thing is real short, but it's really cool and I encourage people to check it out.
  16. They've switched from doing a Day Zero wrap-up at night to cover the press conferences to just live commenting on the press conferences as they happen. Those don't go up as audio because they kinda rely on the video portion. Also, the Day 1 podcast is up now.
  17. E3 2015

In case the timestamp is lost, go to 22:20. I wish I wasn't, but yeah. There are no shortage of stylish platformers that excel in these regards while failing to engage meaningfully in the gameplay. That exact thing was why I was really cautious around Ori and the Blind Forest. Of course, that game didn't turn out to be that at all, but I'm still concerned at what I've seen.
  18. E3 2015

I wonder if anything gets mentioned at Sony. That seems like something Sony could give time for, with "hey, this thing is now gonna be over here too".
  19. DISHONORED 2: MISS HONORED

Yep. https://twitter.com/caraellison/status/610353796728942592 Came here to post the same thing about being extra excited that Cara's working on it.
  20. Hey guys, when should we get back together? I'll roll a new guy, but I'm kinda booked solid until at least July 3. Feel free to have a session without me (since I need a new character anyway), but I'd like to keep going on this.
  21. "Ethics and Journalistic Integrity"

Yeah, to me, the assumption this is just the ignorant is nothing more than a pleasing thought. It's basically the same thing as "These are all teenagers" excuse. Because (in both scenarios) no, they're not. Presumably, some are, but that's not everyone. It's not the real problem. It's just pleasing to think that way because it gives the person a way of dismissing the actual problem. "They're just teenagers, they'll grow out of it." "They're just ignorant, education will make it go away over time.". It's a lazy route towards justifying one's total disengagement as being the rational thing to do.
  22. The Witcher 3: What Geralt Wants

I'm now up against the plot mission that is the point of no return towards finishing the plot. I'm already pretty overleveled for it, and yet I've still got like 20 other quests on my log I've yet to finish. Really torn between just running all the quests I've got and just pushing to finish the game. If I do the side quests, I have a feeling that the final plot quests will all be finished as grey (recommended level 6+ levels behind your level)
  23. "Ethics and Journalistic Integrity"

Weirdly, I'm kinda glad this has changed. I ran over more people by accident than I did on purpose when this was in play. I would try to avoid the bystander, only for them to dive directly into where I'd just turned to avoid them. That was always just the worst feeling.
